For public transport in rural France it's very diverse as it depends of the regions, groups of town ( communauté de communes or so) some have better coverage, less expensive regional transport, some are not and its not a question of rich or poor region but more on what's matter mire for them.

I did a classic British Punjabi Chicken curry for my incredible neighbours. No point trying to out-cook locals! It is an exchange for their incredible Fondue Savouyades....

Yes you have to have a licence to fish, could be a yearly or day one, could be free for children. You have to apply for a license to hunt, with lessons and test. You're allowed to pick mushrooms, fruits, dry branches ( not the logs ! ) in communal woods or area, same in the " forets domaniales" ( state's one) but only for your personal use of the day ( for a dish, a dessert, a fire... ), you're not allowed to sell that except for muguet at 1rst of May. Better not to try that on private property. Gendarmes, gardes forestiers (forest guards) can ask to check what you picked and you could be fined if over picking ( a law from the code Napoleon still available). In my area, Franche-Comté, they are particularity fighting mushrooms traffics (cars full of mushrooms to resell) or myrtilles sauvages, you could be fined for the quantity znd for using tools that dommage the plants.
