Christopher Plummer Confesses Why He Truly Hated Her.
Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrews brought "The Sound of Music" to life over 50 years ago and it remains one of the most beloved films of all time, but the Sound Of Music star Christopher Plummer hated making the classic Hollywood musical with Julie Andrews so much that he called it "the sound of mucus" - and had to get drunk to film one of the most famous scenes. And here're the reason why Plummer truly hate her

That IS true. He just didn't like the movie. Too SWEET. Dan Stevens ( *"The Man Who Invented Christmas"* ) said that Christopher (who played Scrooge in the movie) didn't like any mention of The Sound of Music. While I like the movie, I can sort of see Plummer's side of it. The MUSICAL aspect idealized the story and removed the realness, apart from the Nazis. On a different topic, what's with the weird narration? A.I. ? The 'person' pronounces Genuine with a hard G like Gun and would mispronounce the name Maria.

I don't care about the behind the scenes. Julie and Plummer were magnificent in their roles and gave us the most beautiful film of all time: The Sound of Music. Chris Plummer was at the height of his elegance, he was a beautiful man who, in my romantic 15 years, was delighted to see. Julie, beautiful, sang wonderfully. Everything about that film was enchanting and unforgettable and that's what's worth remembering.

I wouldn’t have imagine Christopher Plummer being an alcoholic and that he hated making the move and he didn’t like Julie Andrews but he later on became good friends with her and he had a love interest with Charmain Carr she was very beautiful and I loved her blue eyes I loved the whole cast they were so talented ❤
@lilmoonbaby6
@lilmoonbaby6 Ай бұрын
From what I've heard in several interviews is that Charmain Carr had an interest in him ( who wouldn't) but she was mistaken about an interest back because he flirted with all women and she was young and hopeful, seeing what she wanted to see. I've heard Plummer say on several interviews that he had issues with the movie that he and Julie both worked with writers to try to make it less over the top in sugariness. In regard to Julie, I've heard Plummer say in several interviews that she's the only reason he did the movie because he loved her in My Fair Lady on stage, she was beautiful, professional and talented, also easy to fall in love with on film. He had also said that he would have made a move on Julie, but she was so busy from being in so many scenes and had a toddler of her own to care for when not filming. The 2 have shown their love and appreciation for each other for years afterwards. Plummer has admitted to calling it the Sound of Mucous in his early years but said later that it had been immature of him and he had grown to appreciate it. I think he was taken wrong back then about some things, too, because if it was known that he didn't like the movie but it was not known that he only took the role for Julie then one could easily take his teasing too seriously. Like I heard he called her Ms. Disney. IF he had said that, then it was obviously a playful tease poking fun at the situation, considering all we've learned since then about his true thoughts on her. I also heard he had said "working with her was like being hit over the head with a Valentines Day card" again... Plummer being Plummer the way he was when he was young. Both of them had just went through hard divorces, too, so who knows what else was going through their heads regarding romance or just attraction. I think Plummer had 3 wives within a decade or so around then so I'm glad they left it as they did, an attraction that became a life long friendship because it could have ended ugly like all the others. As far as the 7 kids go, in all the interviews and commentary I've seen, I've only heard him comment on the youngest, saying while he grew attached to all of them, they were annoying at 1st, especially the youngest who was very bratty but ended up an attractive dish as an adult.

I was studying in Salzburg with the University of Redlands extension campus (the U. of R. Is in California) during the filming of Sound of Music in 1964. One of our 2 professors from the U of R was a cousin of the director and if any of our group had bought the Salzburg folk dress - dirndle outfit for the gals or lederhosen outfit for the guys - there was a possibility of being an extra. I believe that professors son, Bobby, who was about 12, was the only one who made it. The real Maria, whose 2 books I have, can be seen in the background of the scene when Julie Andrews sings as she walks out from the side of the cathedral after leaving the Nonnberg convent. The Salzburgers did not care for the disruption the filming caused in the city and were not especially taken by the movie after its release. I don’t know how they feel about it now. It is truly a shame the voice-over announcer couldn’t pronounce many of the English words nor the names of places used in the movie correctly. One would think he could at least do a bit of research on ENGLISH WORD pronunciation! It was rather jarring to hear both German AND English words mispronounced! As an aside, I did watch the filming of the end of the Do-re-me sequence as the cast did the hopping up and down the steps in the Mirabell Gardens…over and over. The film is a lively make-believe tale based very loosely on the actual story. I have been fortunate to return to this most beautiful city a number of times in the intervening 60 years. The city and surroundings are gorgeous and I’d be there now if I could be!

Check out the video “Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer: A Reminiscence”, which gives a different perspective on their relationship. They talk about their concern that an astringent quality be evident in their onscreen interactions so that the story wasn’t all cloying sweetness. I think that video gives a more accurate picture of what they thought about the movie and each other than is given in this video. See also “The Sound of Music: From Fact to Phenomenon.” It’s a wonderful documentary on the story of the Von Trapp family and on the making of the movie. It also includes Julie Andrews and Robert Wise talking about their concern that the story not be bogged down in sweetness and Christopher Plummer talking about the effort to add depth to the character of Captain Von Trapp, which isn’t much of a role in the Broadway musical that was the inspiration for making the movie. Having watched these two videos, I think that much of the negative things said in this video can be dismissed at the least as mistaken impressions.

Plummer was a good actor but likely jealous of Andrew’s rising fame and his substance abuse issues didn’t help.As super sweet as this movie was it showed a love of a family facing a future many would not survive. It can be difficult to humanize people in a couple hours and touch hearts for lost families decades ago. The real VonTrapp family struggled for many years entertaining public audiences willingly and unwillingly as a singing group. Financial difficulties raising such a large family made it a necessity to entertain unlessly putting a strain on their personal relationships and burden that fell on Maria after the Father died.💕🙏💕🙏

Mis representation in this video. He drank at the hotel when not filming with all the cast and crew who were not shooting at the time (Leisl was just one of them who happens to talk about it a lot because she had a crush on him), but during fiming, they all drank, including Julie, to keep warm because the weather was blustery. Julie had Peach Scnapps as her best friend in the mountain scenes for this reason, and the singing at the festival was extremely cold (Plummer admits to being barely sober in that scene)

I would imagine Plumer's conflict came from taking on a character that was less dynamic than he was capable of, and his dislike for Andrews came from a typical response a drinker has with congenial people, because they're usually looking for someone to argue with, and the congenial don't take the bate. And for deviations from the real life narrative, movies have to be bottled with in the context of a beginning a middle and an end in a finite period of time. That was not the Von Trapp Family experience.

( forgive me if my spelling is off , I’m not used to writing in German ! ) Austria and Germany were on the itinerary, since my uncle was stationed in Germany when he was in the Army . I think one of the best scenes ever put on film is the scene of him play-directing the children as they sing Dites-Moi on the terrace. And he crouched down to their level as he was doing it. He wasn't trying to be 'above them' - it's pretty rare to see that body language. Princess Diana did it.

In 2010 or 2015 (an anniversary of TSOM), he admitted that he loved her since seeing her on stage in 50s💫. In his memoir, the most words about Julie Andrews is high praise, and mentioned her two stage musicals✨… So I really couldn't understand how channels like this made it up that he "hated" her… He NEVER hates her, and in contrast, he SAID he LOVED her.

You are incorrect- Christopher had a good working and personal relationship over the years with Julie Andrews. The two had a good chemistry in the Sound of Music. The narrator mixes 'Julie' and 'Maria' and 'Plummer' and 'The Captain' interchangeably...sometimes confusing to the listener. The Sound of Music was a masterpiece and the cast got along well and there was no inappropriateness even though this is suggested regarding Liesl in your documentary. The most recent souvenir book of the Sound of Music suggests that despite the hard work, all actors and actresses benefited from the experience and in general from their relationships with other stars in the film.

Well here’s my tuppence worth of thoughts on Christopher Plummer not liking the character he played. I think he lived and worked in a time when maybe the actors were all looking for glamorous masculine parts to play. I’m thinking his decision to make a comment like that could have been to save face amongst his fellow actor peers. I think it was driven (as we’ve all experienced in life?..) by fear/embarrassment as he felt it was a sweetly-pie part. The Sound of Music is one of my all time favourite movies. I think it was all done superbly, the acting, the music, the costumes, the scenery, the storyline and..the music. The music is wonderful in this movie. It is one of the greatest movies of all time and I hope he’s up there with his harp thinking actually he’s quite proud of his part in it really.

Was at war and in a cold war at the time. The military paid extra stipends to all its personnel for each child. We paid welfair to women to have children. We were preparing for war by encouraging the birthrate. The military bases were full of children. This movie subtly reinforced the virtue of large family headed by distant disciplined father figure. It justified us, in a way it said we are OK being a family with 5 plus kids. This movie was us.

I'm sure this video has something - perhaps many interesting things to say about Christopher Plummer and "her", but it feels like they just needed to fill 24 minutes of air time, given the repetition and continual teases.

@@TheSoleProprietorYou're totally right. Since 1964, when they were still shooting The Sound of Music, Christopher Plummer said he loved Julie Andrews, and he won't do this (played Captain in this movie) without Julie Andrews😢.

This review is slanted. Chris did fall in love with Julie A during filming. And he loved the Austrian country and felt it added to their success it was so helpful. And Liesle’s dance scene was not a basic dance scene. As this review state. She had to jump up and down the stone seats and they were slippery. Not easy.

Interesting information. Sadly, the AI mispronounced several common words. I have read Maria Von Trapps autobiography, but had forgotten that there were 10 children! I also loved the Sound of Music. Sad to know of Christopher Plummers dislike of Julie Andrews during the filming (professional jealousy?).

The nauseating music with Julie Andrew's overly precise diction gave me no inclination to see this thing. Now your description confirms how right my decision was. The inaccuracy of the story beggars belief due to the changes they made - no wonder they stopped the author going to the premier - they must have wanted to not be confronted with her possible negative reaction.

Christopher Plummer was obviously a serious actor and clearly looked down on this film partly because his character didn't allow him to show off his full acting skills. Of course if he genuinely disliked playing this role why on earth did he accept it in the first place? I'm afraid this all seems to make him look a bit of a hypocrite. Maybe he either needed the money or perhaps his career needed a boost? Either way considering he had an alcohol problem, the film helped him both financially and career wise.

Its an iconic, classic, beautiful, musical! Of course, famous musicals, on screen or on stage, hardly ever go by the exact story. I was born the year it came out, but I first saw it when I was like, four. Loved everything about the film, it brought so much joy to millions, and that's what counts. Another thing, if Christopher Plummer had so much contempt, for the movie and his role, why did he except the part in the first place?! Very cynical. He was very handsome and a good actor, but he sounded a bit unpleasant a man. They say he liked to drink? So...

I couldn't agree more. Í am 71years óld and first saw the Sound of music as a young teenager Í adored it and still to this day watch it. The Von Trap family was everything I would have wished for. My friend and I ran a small village youth club and ¹ year we put on a show that included some songs from the film. I taught the children the songs in my council house and the show was a huge success. I also feel this program in part has some what clouded my beautiful memories and I am sure I am not alone.

I like the music from Broadway version of The Sound of Music as well as the movie version. I must say I really like Mary Martin doing the Lonely Goatherd better then Julie Andrews. One of the songs they left out of the movie version was No Way to Stop It. On the other hand I love Julie version of Do Re Mi. I have the movie but I mute it when Something Good comes on as I find that song is just so dreary.
