Toro Recycler 22" push mower tune up and blade change

I hadn't used this for 4.5 years, and it's close to 10 yrs old! The blade was shot, and I wanted to test the "guaranteed to start" claim with one pull. Had I realized my spark plug cap was off, it would've.
Blade was purchased online; cant find out where. I bought it then it sat in garage for over a year. All I have is what was on the sticker. This info pulls up a lot of sites:

Lesson learned: don't put gas in this model of push mower and then tip it up to change the blade. It will leak out!

I love my Toro Recycler. Spring, Summer and Fall. Use the Gator blade to mulch the leaves. Bet your wife loved the stains on the garage floor and oh yeah, that brake cleaner aroma !!!

Lol. It took a week for the gas smell to leave that concrete. Brake cleaner goes away quickly, but dumping gasoline on concrete does not!

There is an oil drain plug on the bottom. You have to get a 3/8 drive socket to take it off.

at about 5:50 when you used your foot to stop the blade, I use a pair of vice grips clamped to the deck to stop the blade. That way you wont have to be in an awkward position to break the nut free.

Nice! Yeah, I was actually stepping on a piece of wood, which was then stopping the blade, but I like your idea even better!

The air filter you removed from mower does not look like the filter it should have. Which is probably the reason you cant find that type.

Probably right. No clue the last time I changed it...when I was using it years ago. I googled it and can't find it still, but I use it so infrequently it's ok. Like, 2 minutes every other week. Still, I'll get something since even at 2 minutes I'm doing long term damage. One of these days I'll get an electric replacement.

@@durk1980 I have a toro recycler 2019 model with a Kohler 6.75, and it uses Kohler air filter #14083, looks similar to your mower.

Set the engine at TDC before you tip it and shouldn't leak.

The gas tank on these Torros go bad they are defective the opening starts to turn into an egg shape so the gas cap doesn’t seal tightly that’s why your gas leaked out after its closed properly. You can find details online about it. Also it allows air to get in and make the gas go bad and when you go to use it now you will get bad gas in your carburetor. Just a heads up and thanks for the video.

I stabilized my mower every winter. spring good to go. Plus ethanol gasoline is poison to rubber and plastic .

I am into year 13 of my Toro and have had no problems with the gas tank.

I only use ethanol free gas- gas with ethanol degrades gaskets and gums up the works.
