The Toronto Maple Leafs off-season started with a bang this week as the Leafs announced the dismissal of Sheldon Keefe as head coach. We give our take on Brendan Shanahan, Brad Treliving & Keith Pelley addressing the media & the Leafs upcoming coaching search. Then, we discuss the comments from the Leafs players on locker clean out day and whether or not the Leafs should trade Mitch Marner.

I just don't get it. When shanahan was first hired he fired everyone, talked about changing the culture and doing a proper rebuild " short term pain for long term gain". All he ended up doing was tear down the ol' boys club and build a bigger country club. By keeping Shanahan and now with Kelly onboard. All MLSE has done is add another opinion to muddy the waters. Time will tell if they make any real meaningful change.

As I understand it, Shanahan doesn't even live in Toronto. He lives in New York City. "Works" out of his home and flies in every now and then. 10 years of playoff futility and he still has a job. This Pelly guy needed to turf Shanny.

A coach can’t fix broken. One can coach until they are blue in the face, but if the team isn’t built for success in the playoffs, then all is lost. Look at the last 50 Stanley Cup champions, then ask yourself this: is Toronto built like any of the 50 previous championship teams? The answer is: no. Coaching changes address overpaying for four finesse forwards, while ignoring defence and goaltending, how?

Brad-a-Plan begins today! Read between the lines. -Good is not the standard, -Contracts were a calulation based on increasing cap--sans COVID blowing it a up. -Contracts still handcuffing the team and will be worked on -Brad will address contracts if he can via trade/negotiation - A second non-soap-opera goalie to come -New coach will support bigger players with skill and or snot. -Players not fully embracing the uncomfortable, dirty work needed to be a champion will be weeded out. Brad-a-Plan now in effect. Amen.

Keef looks so relieved! As for changes, good luck, the young core 3 brings in the big money to MLSE. Maybe Pelley changes that, but i doubt it. Heres to another year of bringing it back. 😡🤬 These guys have been coddled and protected for too long by MLSE to change their spots now if they get a hard-nosed coach. They need to start off loading this core by 1 year by year. Once the country club mentality cancer is gone, only then will this team turn it around.

The ONLY way to affect change is to SPEND exactly zero dollars on the team. No games, no shirts no tv nothing. Watch on nhl66 etc then let that be that. THEN their revenue goes down and they MIGHT start paying attention to us.

Years ago the head of the teachers union pension fund was answering questions about hockey for the mlse board. Understand that Shanahan does an enormous amount for the mlse board and has been vital to remake the front office from the chaos it was. Why he is an acting governor .. want him kicked upstairs though and Treliving made President of operations aswell as general manager. Need to hard ball Marner and Tavares. Cannot do that by committee. .
