The Toronto Maple Leafs formally introduced Craig Berube, who was long rumored as the top candidate, to the media on Tuesday. We give our thoughts on the hire and what we think Brad Treliving will need to do in order to set Berube up for success. Wings fan from Detroit here: I’m not even a fan of the Leafs but your videos are so good, I watch them all. Guy with the long hair seems so disgusted and disappointed when giving his takes with that “yeah, ok, whatever” attitude that always cracks me up for some reason. Keep the content coming guys. I don’t expect a cup next year. My wish list of priorities is resetting the culture, putting in some pieces like goaltending or defence and prioritizing development and drafting. Because our WizKid XGM, who was supposed to be smarter than everyone depleted this team of prospects and pics.

Scotty Bowman in a Time Machine couldn’t push this roster to success. It’s a culture problem. Leafs aren’t a TEAM. A few divas that the franchise is centered on and then there’s everyone else.

Having a swayman and Ullmark like tandem with Saros and Woll would solidify the Leafs in goal for years. Woll is still very young and could learn from veteran best ways to stay heathy.

No Woll is not young for a goalie he is going to be 26 in july he is only 1 year younger than Samsonov , The shelf life for a goalie is not the same as a player Potvin was 21 when he took the net from Fuhr and carried the Leafs to back to back conference finals that was YOUNG for a goalie . Woll has a history of being hurt every season I dont see that changing he can not be depended on if the Leafs do not get a REAL # 1 goalie they might not even make the play offs next season .

Like I totally get based on stats, and the eye test wanting to focus on is the blue line and goaltending, but at the end of the day we did not lose because we got scored on. We lost because we couldn't score... figure that out first.

It’s been figured out. Half your cap invested in 4 forwards doesn’t work. Scoring a goal is only the final step in a process that usually starts with either your goalie making a save or, a defenseman making a play

@tsak912 ok yes if you can't breakout its hard to score, but we had a billion shots and ...need to finish on offense and not be content with outside shots with zero real pressure. The PP being stagnant is the obvious sign that the offense as a whole can't finish when they are being game planned against

Willy is a lazy floater, marner is soft as butter, matthews is one dimensional and tavares is just too damn old... Rielly is also lackluster.. trade willy before NMC kicks in.. somehow get rid of Marner and start from there with an extra 22.5 mill to spend on a goalie, a couple solid D and a disher or 2 for Matthews

Berube and Treliving seem very genuine, as opposed to Dubas and Keefe who talked circles but didn't deliver any truth when asked questions. Leafs are in good hands, but I'm still not fully committed to watching this team next year unless Marner is traded and a balanced roster is put out there.

Morgan Reilly should get the C. Unpopular opinion I’m sure, but he’s the longest tenured, not part of the “core 4”, their franchise D man (although most agree he’s probably a #2), he’s not payed like the others, doesn’t have that “best friends with pop stars, diva, magazine cover, photo shoot, clothing model” type of persona that Matthews and Nylander have. Matthews is the greatest goal scorer in the world right now, he’s the franchise center, but can anyone tell me what leadership qualities he has? Sergei Fedorov was a better offensive talent than Steve Yzerman, but Stevie was the captain because he was a leader.Probably better examples out there, but imo, for a team that needs a major shakeup (Aside from the absolute necessity of getting rid of Marner) and some leadership, Reilly is the best suited.

I think Morgan's time has passed. He should've been named captain instead of Tavares. Now, it's Austons team. He's matured and grown. I think he's ready to be the captain and to take on that responsibility

Which he has every right to do and it’s the right thing to do if your commitment is to yourself and your brand. That doesn’t bother you Leaf fans?

The problem with him is going to be his cap hit , He did have a good play offs but will probably be looking for around 4 or 5 million on his next contract and it is going to take more than 1 player to turn this team around . It always comes back to the cap .

The fact that Berube is starting off by emphasizing the "core 4" again is disturbing. Leafs need to stop treating their team like it's made up of 4 players and then "everyone else."

About Mitch Marner, no debate.. he must move on. Need to change some of the core 4 forwards, with William signed, Leafs need Mitch to move on. Too much money for another forward, if a few guys are making the big money thats acceptable, but not all as forwards!!! And all with no move, aweful idea. In 6 years Leafs will struggle to make the playoffs doing that. New coach Berube wants accountability. Need talent throughout the lineup, not 4 forwards making all the money! Doesn't matter if there is less talented super stars out there right now. Get 2 or 3 good players, picks, prospects whatever. Need two good consistant goalies, team structure, hardworking and speed. Lastly say we keep Mitch, have all 4 back again and we don't win round 1 in the playoffs, what then? all the money on a few guys and all with no move for the next 5 to 8 years. I will drive into Toronto, help him pack his things and move him out myself.

All this shit being heaped on Mitch Marner , tell me who on this team in the last tens years has been stellar in the playoffs. Go back and look at playoff points and plus/minus stats.Not alot of difference in any of the core 4. Marner is the only one of the core 4 that plays regularly in every situation , PK , PP plus a regular shift at 5 on 5 , ffs he even played defense when the Leafs defense was battered with injuries. Who of the other 3 are gonna do that , Willy , Tavares 😂.Typical Leaf fans always needing a scapegoat to throw under the bus. Trading Marner before he plays even a single game for Berube is a mistake. The ONLY thing I would make that trade 4 is a verified #1 goaltender.

It's not about finding a scapegoat, it's about a balanced roster and money allocation. Giving Marner a 12 million per year contract makes zero sense for the Leafs. Time to move on.

Trading Marner is a big mistake and will not happen, he will play differently with Berube, just like steen did with St. Louis. You need beasts on his line, skill is hard to find. You both are too emotional and young without experience. this comment may hurt your feelings
