“Shit show” comment guy here. Thanks for the honorable mention. Lol! In response to your request for my take on today’s show, I feel it was mostly on point and rather subdued. My issue was only with getting ahead of yourselves and speaking as though the series is over after just one game. I’m just as tempted to expect the same thing we’ve always gotten from this Leafs team. But we’ve gotta believe it can be different. Otherwise, what’s the point of watching?

Let's face reality, the D core is a joke, including Rielly. Major change is needed for next season. If they can get Marner to waive his no move, trade him out for a legit top 4 D-man, and whatever else they can get. If they can get Tavares on LTIR for next year, would free up cap space, but that's likely a pipe dream. Very poor performance by the entire team, except for maybe #34. They better figure it out fast, or they are out in 5 games.

Wow what an incredible first game. That was honestly brutal. I think leafs were physical but Boston knew that but Boston was ahead of the mind games and they beat them on their own terms.

Had to make a comment here. You guys are bang on. There are people on here that don’t even know how to tie their skates so don’t worry about some of the comments. So my 2 cents is pretty much what you guys think. Out coached Foolish penalties and our defence has been average at best. Love the show guys. agree for the most part, except for one point. The Leafs have 2 NHL defensemen, the rest are trash, saying "average at best" is incredibly courteous. Benoit and Edmundson would legit be the 10th D-man for Boston, like the 4th healthy scratch, like 4 injuries away from seeing the ice. The Bruins have defensemen playing regular season games in the AHL just to keep everybody fresh and ready to go. Hopefully they can turn it around and make it interesting, but after last night it didn't look like they wanted to be there, unlike 18 and 19

As for last year the only reason why Boston didn’t beat Florida in 5 is bc they refused to rotate the goalies. It’s going to be an entertaining series, hope for my stress that it doesn’t go 7, but I feel that’s etched in stone already

I can not believe Domi did not get a penalty before the puck even dropped , how can anyone cross check a guy opening face off , than throw a punch and no penalty. Bruins lost on purpose last 2 games to play leafs, they have there number since 1969 , look it up , Bruins in 5 maybe 6 . as long as Domi stays in the line up

First of all, the Leafs are stupid for trusting Samsonov. Aside from that, once again, Matthews, Marner, Reilly and Tavares didn't show up. I am quite sure there are four guys on the Marlies that would have had the games of their lives if they'd been called up to replace those four last night. I think they'll still win the series, but it will be on the backs of Woll and the third and fourth lines if they do.

Matthews had chances…JT was trying but he’s slow, marner was hitting but didn’t do much offensively. Sammy needs to be better but the leafs D didn’t box out players well, Sammy didn’t see a lot of the shots. Kudos to Boston

Nobody ever mentions the Bruins plug d men into a predetermined, team mentality of systemic defence. The team itself, if you say has an avg player, he at least has to have a predetermined amount of grit, and he coachable and have buy in to the team system. Not to mention top down you have Cam Neely running the show- who as a 50 goal, 50 fight man- his dick holds the door for him when he walks into the locker room. There’s accountability ten fold. That is what the leafs, who has much better players on paper, lacks. Any questions?

@@CD-yr8tw I agree 100p. That is what is see here. Yet I see “analyst’s” say on paper leafs this or that. But never touch on the overall culture or any system the team plays. The broadcast you will notice sugar coats every possible play or thing they do. It was a breath of fresh air between periods when I forget who it was called out the d man not positioning to take one side of the net away to give the goalie a better chance. Ugh. Toronto you have much bigger problems than the team on the ice.

Both are huge problems, which is why the Leafs are so outmatched. The Bruins have better coaching, better systems, actual buy in, (which elevate their players) AND their D and goaltending are much better on paper. Just look at Bertuzzi who was dominant for the Bruins under Monty's system but can't seem to get much going with Keefe.

I have no problem with fans blaming the Core. Boston is built for goaltending and defence, the Leafs are built to score. They've overpaid their Core to do just that. If they aren't scoring, they should wear most of the blame.

yep, pretty simple approach, and Leafs very rarely fail to deliver on shooting themselves in the foot. Watching that D core struggle against the forecheck was painful to watch. Add in some dumb penalties, zero energy from the forwards except for #34, and JT/Marner taking the night off, and adds up to a disgraceful performance.

Penalties kill you, clutching, grabbing, little slash/hooking, is okay, there's a fine line, you have to be smart, penalties can lose you the game, especially against teams like the bolts.

Penalties? When you slash a guy right off the faceoff...you're getting called. High stick to the face, you're getting called. It's not on the refs to even up the calls. It's on the Leafs to stay out of the box. Leafs aren't built for playoffs.

Depth - The Bruins 3rd and 4th lines dominated. The Panthers forecheck the hell out of those lines and Toronto can’t do it. It’s not officiating. 4-1 in penalties. Domi’s dumb penalty is one of them.

Marner should be on Mathews line and Domi on Tavarres line and be told by Keefe not to take stupid penalites and Mathews did take 2 too penalties himself but Macroy could had a high stick too on Mathews could been over looked not to call any body on a high stick penalty and the high stick in the corner on yarnkrok by the left defenceman not called the Referee.

Keefe was badly out coached. Why on earth did Jarnkrok get 17+ minutes of ice time and almost 4 mins of PP while Domi and Bertuzzi got less ice time ? Makes no sense whatsoever.

This is some seriously bad analysis. The Bruins didn't play brilliantly. Bruins were massively out chanced and the usual suspects choked their opportunities. Bruins have been crap 2nd half of the season and coming off back to back first round exits. They're not some next level team. Also saying the Leafs top player can't be blamed, they take up half the salary cap and provided no offense, it's completely their fault.

I am convinced Nylander scratched himself for being put on line 3. I think he is having a hissy fit. Edit: The sit back and let them make a mistake plan works if your goalie can save you from the onslaught until that mistake happens...Sammy let in 4 and was beat 9 times including posts. If Leafs try the sit back and wait approach Sammy will just let some weak floater in from the point.

"At some point it was like 4-1 on penalties..." then don't have your entire first line take turns high sticking defensemen 5 feet from the net in the o-zone, right in front of the official...don't slash Marchand right off the draw, right in front of the official. The game is supposed to be called fairly, not evenly. Youre confused/mistaken, and thats okay. It isnt that you thought it was unbalanced in terms of calls, the amount of "subjective" or "soft" calls were low/nonexistent both ways. This wasnt the Islanders/Canes game with those softass officials. What youre upset about is that the officials wouldnt call soft penalties against Boston to balance the stupid penalties against Toronto. If you want to balance things out a bit, as the Leafs, stop taking dumb penalties, considering you KNOW your PK sucks eggs. Side note, I am fairly certain the Leafs got away with too many men towards the end of the 2nd, which wouldve given Boston yet another power play...

@@Nyneteen I am assuming, for Holmberg, youre complaining about Mcavoy getting him with a stick up high and then Holmberg molesting Mcavoy in response. Like I said, it was called fairly. Either they call both penalties, or neither. I personally am thankful they didn't call either, but wouldnt have been upset about that, as long as they called both. As for Liligren getting tossed into the bench, that wouldnt be considered a penalty in the preseason, forget about playoffs. If you think that backhanded nudge to the back is equivalent to a punch to the face or head then idk what to tell you. Should the rule exist for that to be a penalty? Probably, but does it? No.
