Im a bruins fan so take what i say with a grain of salt, but i think one reason the leafs have a hard time at home is partly the off ice onslaught that they receive. Having their history and then expecting to be the team to do it and if you dont we'll make sure you hear it for years to come. That can absolutely get into someones head. I think that expectation affected the bruins last game. Player management is also critical and i think is Keefe's weaker points (double shifting, putting the 4th line out towards the end when it should have been 1st or 2nd line). Montgomery is better at it but still makes wild decisions (like bringing gryzlek back even though he hasnt been that effective all season). If this wasnt leafs v bruins id be rootin for the leafs, they do deserve something after all these years

Leafs play to their opponent. Either up or down. They don't dominate. Away, they play up, because they don't have the advantage. Like chasing the car that's in first place. There's a clear target/challenge that's immediately infront of them that they can only accept. Home, they play down and don't capitalize. When it's their turn to dictate the pace.. they don't do it. Not in the playoffs. It's like the cup is not a big enough carrot for them to chase and stay focused.

Matthews not playing again tonight says a fair bit about his buy-in to this team and winning in the playoffs. Before all you Matthews' fan boys pipe up about it being the doctor's decision to pull him from the game, it almost always comes down to the player whether or not they can play in the game. One major caveat would be with some head injuries because there is a lot of attention on them due to possible law suits around them, so those are cases where doctors do sometimes step in to protect the player from themselves. To support my case, a couple easy examples of Draisaitl a couple years ago where no doctor would ever say his ankle is fit for playing, and Bergeron I believe last year or the year previous that I think it was a punctured lung? I believe this is a case of the player deciding he can't play, and the team protecting him and his reputation because they are stuck with him for a few more years with the huge contract.
