Not only did Cleetus prove easy install & use, he also got ~20% gains on a very modest stock engine (2.2L). What's more, he didn't destroy it! That's the ultimate durability test.

I like what you guys are doing, please don't stop developing and refining the product and hopefully the price will get lower and more affordable for all of us, maybe $1500 in the future. I like to think this is not a turbo or a supercharger, but an Intake Air Compressor. When you say turbo or supercharger people tend to think of complication, having to spend $$$thousands to install, and buy extra parts and such. This system is very easy to install, like an add-on for your factory intake, or an add-on for the cold air intake.

Lowkey reminds me of the nitrous system in Need for Speed, have to wait for it to recharge before using again 🤔 And yes, Cleetus McFarland brought me here. I'd love to see this in a Mazda MX5.

This makes more sense than a Magnuson supercharger. Cheaper and simple installation.

Not really. It's very inconsistent. There are only full throttle applications. At partial throttle it strangles the engine

When I saw the Cleatus video I thought torqamp was a usa based company so it would be extremely expensive to buy it, in my country we have what I think are high tax on things coming out of Europe, so happy to see it's a European company, the kit looks very good!!!

I think this is a very good 1st step in this concept for after market , I can’t wait for a large motor and larger battery and a by pass when the system is not on , I can image the engine has to battle the system when no engaged .

The pressure drop you could possibly have on the TorqAmp compressor when turned off is no problem for gasoline engines because otherwise you will have this pressure drop in on throttle valve. For the larger engines with large turbo builds we have developed a bypass valve. Are there plans for a larger compressor or twin units for larger displacement engines? Love the concept and curious as to how a v8 engine for example would benefit from the torque amp.

A twin setup is possible. We recommend a larger alternator for that because maybe a regular alternator can overheat. We are also working on a larger model but this needs much more time. A twin setup will always provide more boost that a single large unit so for a V8 setup I recommend a twin setup.

I think your system would benefit greatly from a butterfly bypass valve at the output end to bypass the TA while not boosting to lower drag while not in use.

If I had an excess amount of disposable income I might think of buying this thing...but I'd rather wait - as with any new tech, it's very expensive at first but as time goes on it gets cheaper and cheaper. And battery tech will have advanced as well (the best thing would be supercapacitors - the gap between capacitors and batteries)

Would this turbo ruin the reliability of a naturally aspirated 3.2 V6. I know it changed the power bandwidth of the Nissan 350z but would that extra hp and torque at lower rpm ruin the reliability of the engine? Noob question I know.

so the smaller the engine the more power boost possible?? im looking at this as a fun toy for a Honda insight 1.0l 3 cylinder and i am genuinely interested in what performance it might give to such a small motor

Yes you're kind of right. There are some limits. When the air flow from the engine is too high the compressor is not able to compress the air. When the engine is too small the compressor will have compressor surge and damages itself. So air flow should be in between. For example a 2L engine at 2000rpm will be on the lower limit of providing enough air so there will not be compressor surge. The air flow could be compared to a 1L engine running at least 4000rpm. Or a 4L engine running 1000rpm. So we expect you could only activate the TorqAmp at maximum boost above the 4000rpm for a 1L. You can check the Citroën DS3 1.2L on our KZfaq channel. It will show on the dyno sheet above which rpm is is activated. It's the smallest engine we boosted with a TORQAMP till now.

I want do the twin setup on my SBC 350 and do a video, but the cost on this has gone way up. Also, if you're using this on a classic Chevy that is carbureted, wouldn't you need a blow through carburetor?

Hi, yes you always need a carburetor that works under pressure. Or you have to suck the air fuel mixture through the compressor. But we highly recommend a blow through carb. Sometimes you can convert your carb.

what happens when it is paired with an engine bigger than what the part is designed for? should still work but with less boost, right? so slightly bigger (3.5l NA inline 6) should still work ok? will there be a kit for bigger engines? is this adjustable as to when it will boost? can i choose between low/mid/high-range torque? not sure how this integrates with the car electronics/mechanics...

Indeed the current version compressor is designed for up to 3 liter. We did some larger engines. For example a Nissan 350z and Porsche 911. Check dyno results on our website and KZfaq channel. The cars gain a lot of torque, so the region where you drive the most. To avoid limiting the high mass flow of air we developed a simple to implement bypass system. Check torqamp.com/bypass/ The TorqAmp boost can be controlled by a 0-5V signal. So when you can get the engine rpm somehow the boost could be controlled with some simple electronics.

You can find a video on our channel with the results of a Citroën DS 1.2liter engine. The boost is max 0.4bar so around 6psi. Higher rpms is bit lower boost. To prevent the compressor going into the surge area the TorqAmp was only activated above 3000rpm. So should be possible on a 1.0 liter engine.

I really like this idea the only issue I see is the weight of the batteries and that even with boost some factory engines with poor airflow through the heads (many American engines have this issue) wont gain much power.

Need to get this kit to be cheaper and youll have that many more customers and followers. Maybe start up a kickstarter or something. Also, there needs to be more data to stand behind the claims. Videos that show the unit installed and not installed and the power its putting down via a dyno

I dug around and found a 1965 mustang gt going from a sluggish 95whp to 130whp on a dyno. I was impressed... honestly, for some cars, 2500 bucks isn't too bad for 25-30% gain, especially for guys out there who like cars with virtually no aftermarket... *cough* dodge (specifically the dart and stratus coupe), Chrysler- crossfire, sebrings, certain Volvo models, etc.. I could see this thing really taking off with the right marketing behind it. I'd rather buy this product than some POS ebay boosters or some crappy, gimmicky "racing chip". I'm very happy to see a viable electronic booster solution.. I'd like to see it succeed and perhaps lead to more innovative options. Hell, even vehicle specific setups are possible here. I'm sure they might be more expensive, and it goes against the idea of this being universal systen with no fab work needed... 2500 isn't bad, considering how much you'll end up paying for labor alone on some of the more common catalogue mods out there for certain vehicles. Which is why many people only do the intake and exhaust bolt-ons, maybe a tune and call it a heavily moded race car.

How about is250 2.5 na How much hp and torque would I expect to gain from this? How about the electric motor in your compressor? Would there be a replacement if the motor fails? WhT this the boost psi provided from this?

A is250 2.5na should work great with a TorqAmp. Not sure about the ECU of this engine but it has the potential to get ~40% more torque. The electric motor and compressor are assembled in such way that it can be replaced by us. So far we didn't have a broken electric motor but it is possible to replace. The boost is up to 6psi in the lower engine rpm's

How long can you stay flat on the throttle before the battery (your powerbox) is depleted? What's the capacity of the powerbox? Any experiments watercooling the compressed air?

The battery capacity is 8Ah. We are working on a larger battery for other applications. So assume 4min of full power for a depleted battery, probably you will hit one of the temperature limits earlier. Notice that 10 sec full throttle is already long for normal street use. Also in combination with a large turbo build the boost is in the order of seconds. We don't have expierence with watercooling yet but we are working on it for a special customer. Important to notice is that the TorqAmp is turned off most of the time. At that moment the engine is sucking cold air towards the engine via the compressor so this will cool down the TorqAmp compressor.

@@TorqAmp thanks for the answers. 4 min of full throttle is quite a lot indeed. Sounds like cooling would be the main challenge if this was to be used in a road course application (time attack or casual track days) with the torqamp as the only source of boost. Will follow your developments :)

Take a look at the Nissan 350z and Porsche 911 dyno video on our KZfaq channel. Both show great low end torque but no additional high rpms horse power. You could consider installing 2 TorqAmps. That will result also in better high rpm performance.

I just love this. I'm a mechanical engineer and have done many, many turbo installs, rear mount, as well but like many others decline to purchase, the price is much too high. The product looks great, the quality seems also good but $1000.00 to much for much of the potential market. Good luck.

A lower price is always better but there are so much high tech components in this product that it will be always more expensive to produce than a regular turbocharger. Therefore impossible to sell it for 1000usd.

Could be, for the lower rpm's you can expect power increase but maybe not at the high rpms. Also important is that the carburator will provide enough fuel with pressurized air.

Yes 2 TorqAmps should give on a 4.9L engine ~40% more torque in the lower rpm's and high rpm gains is hard to predict but I expect you will gain something.

Could I put two of these on an ls3 and expect anything? I ask, because I am in California where we cannot really do anything to our cars, legally. Anything that changes our emissions will fail the car's registration until it's fixed. This could just be turned off with a specific map for emissions testing. I have a Chevy SS and am looking for a CA compliant solution with some serious power gains.

We expect with 2 TorqAmps around 30 a 40% low rpm torque increase. Not sure about the high rpm horse power. On a 2.6liter engine we got 30hp extra with 1 TorqAmp and with 1 TorqAmp on a 3.5liter we didn't gain any hp (but only lot of low rpm torque) . So you can see the LS3 as 2x a 3.1Liter engine. Hard to promise you anything on high end horsepower. This highly depends on valve timing etc. But expect that you will gain something at least up to 5000 rpm with 2 TorqAmps.

We can replace the battery for you. So far we have no experience with dead batteries and we are already using it for a couple of years.

Completely depending on engine/ecu. So best is to inform at a tuner who is specialized in your engine because we are only specialized in creating the additional air. The tuner will make sure that the engine will run safe under boost.

Torqamp.Com have you ever installed on a base model porsche boxster of the 986 variety. Was wondering if it was too tight to fit the supercharger or if this would also suffer from a similar fate as the Nissan 350 z in which no HP gains were made.?

It highly depends on the engine size. So 3.5L of the 350z will give lot of torque but no horsepower gain. A 2L as in the Honda Prelude will give also more horsepower at high rpm. So for larger engines it's also possible to place 2 TorqAmps to make sure to have nice boost at high rpm.

@@godzla69 Not sure because every engine flows a bit differently. Porsche is doing well in high power with atmospheric engines so we expect a bit higher mass flow of air. We guess you will have a nice gain with a single TorqAmp setup. To be sure you could connect an OBD Bluetooth dongle to your car. When your car is equipped with MAF sensor you could see the mass flow of air. Check this at full throttle in the high rpms and compare it with the compressor map on our website. Then we could conclude if you will have a nice horsepower gain. When you drive in general at the lower engine rpms you probably don't really care about the gain in the high rpms.

We don't have a real snowmobile focused TorqAmp kit. The TorqAmp is designed for short boost periods (in the order of for example 10 seconds). We don't have any snow mobile experience so we have no idea how much time you will go full throttle.

Most important is the air flow through your engine. So a low a large low revving engine is also possible. Or a two TorqAmp kits. What's your engine size and max engine rpm?

For a twin setup you need two TorqAmp kits, so it will be everything 2x 2495euro excluding tax and excluding shipping.

What about making the impellor variable pitch - when in the off position it can be free flowing (open vanes) and when spinning the pitch can adjust to the most efficient flow rate. This could then be used to not only create power - but save fuel in an economy mode. I think this device could overtake turbos - its simpler - if it fails your engine will still run - can be used only when you need it. I would love to see this on a 370z - it would rock.

Check this video of a TORQAMP on a 350z kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbBneLeqqM6dgGw.html Variable vanes on the compressor wheel is really hard because it should be really well balanced always because it spins around 70.000rpm. It's not really a limitation in the intake that costs fuel because when the pressure drop in the intake for cruising is always there because that's how a throttle valve limits the amount of air going into the engine. For larger engines and turbo builds we have a bypass valve torqamp.com/bypass/

How would this work on a closed ECU ? Would i need to get a new open ECU and have it dynotuned for this to work properly ?

I think you mean a closed Ecu which is possible to tune with chip tuning? The ecu will measure more air with the MAP or MAF sensor. So then based on the tune automatically will inject more fuel and so works great. When you mean an ecu that is not possible to program you could use a FIC module to control an additional injector to inject more fuel.

@@TorqAmp my 03 tacoma(or known as Toyota Hilux outside of north america) It has a closed ecu. when I supercharged it, the closed ecu added all the extra fuel i needed . I saw cleetus use the torque amp and couldnt help but wonder what it would do for my truck. I use a magnuson roots style supercharger that mounts right behind the throttle body, so there is no intercooler for it. I have no lag already, but my problem is heat soak. have no way to cool down the compressed air. I have great boost until the engine gets really hot. It is pushing 8-10 pounds of boost

@@shaunmilor to be honest we don't expect a huge gain with the TorqAmp because you already have a good match supercharger. The TorqAmp probably could provide a bit more low end torque.

It's possible. Diesel engines with turbocharger are in general less interesting because you can probably already increase turbo pressure. But when you like to kill turbo lag the TorqAmp is also interesting. When it's a naturally aspirated diesel engine the TorqAmp will increase engine torque / power.

how much would this system cost? Have you tested this system with a high compression engine? I have a skyactiv engine with a CR of 13:1 would this work for my vehicle without major issues?

The system costs 3400usd without tax and shipping. We did some engines with CR of 11:1 without any problems. We didn't do any sky active engines yet. We boost up to 6psi so when you can find people with turbo seutps higher then 6psi I expect you should be fine. Biggest risk will be engine knock. When your engine has knock sensors this could be prevented. There are some more tricks to be more safe such as higher octane fuels. It is easy to test a TorqAmp when your car is on a dyno because you can put it on a table next to the car before pulling the cables etc.

I highly encourage and plead that you try and intergrate your kit on a 2014 Mazda 3! Newer Mazda vehicles are very limited in terms of power upgrades and your system could prove to be the first and only in providing a noticeable and safe power increase. If you end up making a video I can share it with a local forum and get your product our there! The reason your system seems ideal is that it’s a low boost application which is perfect for high compression engine, even running as little as 1-2 PSI would increase power dramtically at low to mid RPM’s with a CR of 13:1

No that's not necessary because it's electronic controlled so it could be turned off when your turbo kicks in.

In general it's rather simple. Connect the compressor with some silicon hoses before the throttle valve. Pull the cables through the car. Place the battery box on a good location and connect directly to the 12V battery. Place the throttle switch under the throttle pedal or connect the wires to the throttle body. Then you have more air. After that you need more fuel and how to do this is already well known due to turbo and superchargers.

Hi, I am in the process of building one myself for my Toy86. Using bigger motor (8kW). Playing also with one in-line 8kW, 90mm electric rocket turbine. Have been thinking/talking about this concept for long time and most people said I a dreamer. The same for flying electric RCs - impossible 20 years ago and now I am licensed Drone Pilot.

@@TorqAmp Thanks, I wonder if you tested that cold turbo sides for the 'dead flow' mean how much flow restriction they create ? Working on the flap which will block/open air via turbo. Playing with this just to prove/disprove the concept, but on the end I think I will propel that cold turbo by a set of pullers like kits already available. Toy86 is practically designed with this in mind. Cheers.

@@VladekR I don't completely get your question. But in general a pressure drop over a compressor is no problem at partially throttle. Because there should be a pressure drop anyway in the intake. We tested on the dyno with our Honda Prelude the difference with TorqAmp on, TorqAmp off and original air intake. You can find the results on www.torqamp.com/use-cases Above the 5000 rpm you see a noticeable difference. But in practice at full throttle the TorqAmp is turned on and therefore this situation will not happen in general.

The TorqAmp kit we deliver now is good to up to 3 liter engines and great to spool up large turbos. You can consider using two TorqAmps in parallel to reach the flow of a 4.2L. With a single TorqAmp you will only gain a nice torque gain in the low rpms.

An intercooler is not necessary because of the relatively low pressures we run. Placing an intercooler will give some benefits but it will also be relatively small.

@@vardanhovakimyan7633 yes the compressor is always turned off and spins during accelerations. At partially throttle you don't need the compressor to spin because your car will start to accelerate when more air is added to your engine.

Genius. Now that box is too big for my motorcycle. However if you could fabricate a smaller unit for just maybe 1 psi, would be perfect for a smaller liter engine..

We are working on a smaller box which makes it more suitable for motorcycles. Unfortunately several motorcycles don't have a powerful alternator which makes it harder to charge the internal battery. So highly depending on your motorcycle if this will be possible.

Love the concept and kit but the price is a bit much. It's 2500 euro(2700 usd) not including the open source box or full flow pipe. So even with a the basics ends up being close to 3000 euro or like 3300 usd. If you guys had any sales or deals that brought this to around 2200 euro (2500 usd) with kit and pipe would be great. Price point is prolly why you don't see this kit sold as a beginner forced induction kit for some engines.

You can check the dyno graph of the Citroën DS3 that's on our KZfaq channel and website. It's an even smaller engine so therefore it shows clearly above which rpms the TorqAmp is activated

The TorqAmp is mostly in stand by and therefore the compressor doesn't rotate so wear and tear is really limited. We use ceramic bearings that are lubricated for life. When push the pedal down you get instant boost but accelerating for more then for example 10 seconds is already rather long and therefore the compressor the bearings have a really long lifetime.

I'm sorry, don't expect a price drop soon. We already dropped the price from 3400usd to 2500usd last year. On the turbo diesels you don't get a lot of performance with the TorqAmp because diesels already run high turbo pressures and therefore its easy to gain a lot with only chiptuning. The TorqAmp is perfect for turbo spool up (reduce turbo lag) and naturally aspirated engines.

Because of the additional exhaust gas the TorqAmp is indirectly creating the turbo spools up at the lower rpm's which is something that is not possible without the TorqAmp. So comparable to twin turbo setups or a belt driven supercharger combined with a turbocharger.

The TorqAmp is indeed a bit more expensive than a cheap turbo kit. It highly depends on your car which turbo kits are available. Some are cheaper, some are more expensive. But for a lot of cars there are no turbo kits or they are crazy expensive. The TorqAmp also had much more high tech technology inside instead of the well known turbocharger technology. One of the major cost drivers of a regular turbocharger or supercharger is labour. The hours required for a TorqAmp installation is much lower and therefore a cost saver. Also think about the value of your car. With a turbocharger installation the sales value will typically decrease. Removing a TorqAmp is easy and you can sell an original car. You can easily also install the TorqAmp on your next car. So the TorqAmp is next to the turbocharger and belt driven supercharger a boosting device whit its owm benefits and therefore depending on your car and needs it could be the best solution.

@@maxx_life we understand. There are a lot of different crowdfunding platforms which work differently. In our case you peldge a TorqAmp and so indicate you want one. When enough people pledge we will reach the goal of 130.000euro (which is approximately 50 TorqAmps) your credit card will be charged and we will get the money to start this production run. When we don't reach the goal of 130.000euro your credit card will not be charged and we don't get any money. When people doubt they can always pledge and later cancel their pledge before the deadline (day counter). So there is no risk of pledging now.

Creates .8 psi on small engines. (Briggs and Stratton 8hp) good luck trying to put it on 2 or more cylinders. Just need 8psi per cylinder. So, 10 torqueamps per cylinder. Did he just suggest you splice into your throttle position sensor? Bad advice. Save your money, tune your car.

Staight away your in a tough market. Yours really does work & it will take years or more to get that bad taste of the past products ones out of their months. Also all businesses don't make a profit within the first 5 years. There's full turbo kits on eBay selling for a little over $500 like hot cakes they are making all kinds of power and they're liable. Those same turbo kits come with all the mounting hardware tubes & everything. It seems to me that your company wants to make all the money on the frontend, A 1 time sale, end sale. That is just way too expensive. The most common reason why people looking at this is because they want a bit more power on their every day car with N/A engine. So why would I spend 2500 euros on this thing when I can add a normal turbo for less then 1500 euros + I don't have to worry about charging or how long the whole thing is going to last. Sure it's amazing product but it's just not meeting the reality.

When there is a good 1500euro turbo kit available for your car it's probably not so interesting. There are a lot of cars without the availability of turbo kits. This requires lot of custom work and lot of working hours. For such drivers the TorqAmp is a cheap solution.

​@@TorqAmp Just how exactly adding torqamp on seat arosa (car value ~1000 euros) or mini cooper (car value ~3000 euros ) is a chap solution? I have astra j 1.6 N/A and you telling me that it's cheaper to buy your electric turbo then to resell THE WHOLE CAR for same astra j but with 1.6 turbo? Almost every common car have it's turbo and non turbo variant you know. I'm sorry but atm, price of torqamp makes no sense and does not meet reality.

@@spevomax2 think for example about classic cars. You can easily install and remove the TorqAmp kit so the car keeps its original value. For cars of couple of 1000euro it is a lot of money but people also add turbo kits on such cars so the customers are there for sure. The TorqAmp will always be more expensive than a traditional turbo because there are much more high tech components inside.

​@@TorqAmp What warranty torqamp have? Because I'm very skeptical about this astronomically expensive, high tech turbo and don't see how it can last more then 2 to 4 years max. without problem or even total failure.

@@spevomax2 we drive around for 5+years and working properly. It only turns on during fast accelerations so it only rotates for seconds every time. And our experience is that it is a decent product. We give 1 year of warranty.
