I'm sure you get a million questions so here's one more LOL. I have the E46 M3 BMW which has individual throttle bodies. Do you think there would be any problem with that? I doubt it as long as the unit is installed before the MAF sensor. Or what do you think? I would also think the respose would be similar to the Nissan 3.5 z even though the engine is a 3.2 liter it makes 333hp but only 262 tq.

Ok, thanks for showing. I have 3 questions: -1- what about the MAF-sensor? Where did or do you re-locate it? -2- I am curious if you have done an install to a Porsche. In my case a 996 without a turbo, so normally aspirated. It has an AOS installed to the throttle body, so also a question where you re-locate this one as we don't want pressure leading to it... -3- the air filter will get more/faster air sucked in... doesn't it need to be upgraded for this higher air-flow? Thanks
@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your interest. The TorqAmp always had an atmospheric side (air filter side) and a higher pressure side (engine side). Most of the time the compressor is not rotating so not building up pressure. So only when you press the pedal down it will turn on because you want this faster acceleration. Keep these things in mind while reading the answers to your questions. 1. Some MAF sensors work under pressure (so called blow through sensor). If it is not a blow through sensor you can place it at the ambient side of the TorqAmp (between the air filter and the TorqAmp compressor). 2. We didn't do a Porsche 996 so we are not familiar with the details. Best is to inform at a specialist who knows the details about boosting such an engine. The general answer is that there are 2 solutions for the Carter ventilation. 1. Place the carter ventilation hose between the air filter and the TorqAmp. 2. There are PCV valves, see link below with more details. Several naturally aspirated engines are already equipped with these valves. So there is no problem at all. rippmods.com/products/high-boost-pcv-valve-30psi-turbo-or-supercharger 3. In general the capacity of an air filter is more than sufficient so you don't have to replace it. Let us know when you have more questions or if something is unclear.

You said it takes 20 seconds to get ready. Is that time for it to spin up? Or are you charging capacitors or something? How long can you boost for? I saw a Prius in the background, do you have adaptor kits for 48v systems in hybrid vehicles? So that the torqamp can run continuously.
@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 4 жыл бұрын
The 20 seconds are indeed some waiting time to charge capacitors and sync the components. We expect to reduce that time in the future. I think it should be possible within 1 second. To compressor is not spinning because it's not necessary to spin. This is comparable to a turbocharger. A normal turbocharger is also not really spinning or spinning slowly at partially throttle therefore you have turbo lag (to spool up). It's only interesting to have the compressor spinning when the throttle valve is completely open so you know that you already have maximum airflow with ambient conditions. By using the TorqAmp the flow will increase. For the more smooth transition you can set that the TorqAmp starts spinning slowly at 70% throttle and full boost at 100% throttle. This is just an example. We don't have a converter for the Prius to use the high voltage battery. We could consider to develop that when there anoth Prius drivers who are interested in the TorqAmp.

It's hard to predict the real performance gains. 3.5L is a bit at the large side because we designed this version up to 3L. You can check the Nissan 350z 3.5L and Porsche 911 3.2L on our website and KZfaq channel. You will see the gains are in the lower rpm and no benefit in the high rpms. So when you're looking for low rpm performance it could be interesting for you.

Thanks for your interest. You should get really nice performance gains on a 2.7L. At this moment the kit is not waterproof. The cost for ECU remapping is hard to say because it highly depends on where you are in the world and if the ECU is easy to program for a lot of tuners or requires more effort. To give an indication, here in the Netherlands you will have to a proper ecu tune of a dyno for around 500euro

@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you're right. So when the carburator is working under pressure you will be fine. It's important is that the carburator has enough capacity for the additional air. You can measure it with a wide band lambda sensor (every tuner will have one). It's also important that the ignition timing is right to avoid engine knock. So you can check with people who already used the same engine under boost. They probably know if these engines are likely to have engine knock. Otherwise this could be solved by changing the ignition timing a bit. Our advice is always to ask a tuner who is used to these engines with the same carburator. They know the best if there are any risks involved or that it's simply plug n play.

The focus with the current TorqAmp compressor was up to 3L. We have some dyno graphs of larger engines such as the Porsche 911 with 3.2L engine and the Nissan 350z with 3.5L engine. So we expect above the 5000rpm there is no performance gain with a 3.6L. We cannot guarantee anything about this because every engine flows a bit different. When you install a TorqAmp the ECU of the engine should inject more fuel and has the right ignition timing. Some ECU's will automatically adapt, others need a tune. We always recommend to go to a tuning shop which is familiar with the specific engine/ecu you want to tune.

@TorqAmp

Yes indeed turning on and off is an option, this will give you the kick down feeling. Another option is to place a TPS sensor in the throttle body (when it's not already there, some old cars have this) and read out the throttle position. You can also find these as aftermarket product. The LPG installation should provide enough fuel, I'm not sure about how this exactly works but it should be possible.

Hi, I am considering this product for my FB7 R16B Civic 5 speed auto. 1) I know that it has a MAF sensor between air filter box and the throttle body. To install this kit, I believe I should remove the air filter box. Where/How should I place the MAF sensor? 2) Should I really need remap? Because R16B engines ECU's are not custom tuneable. Thanks in advance
@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your interest. Check this page torqamp.com/torqamp-kit/. You will find a simple overview where to place the MAF sensor. It could also be on the other side but then check with a tuning shop if this is possible in your case. About the tuning we have no idea because most important is right amount of fuel and the right ignition timing. Some ECU's will regulate everything. Most ECU's have to be remapped. A tuning shop with dyno should be able to measure of everything is safe with the stock ECU. Otherwise you could check what Hondata offers for your car. Another option is to place an FIC system (for example Splitsecond or EMU DET3). Also possible to completely go for an open ECU. We recommend to check with a company who is specialized in this specific ECU's what is the best solution.
@bjkqwert77
@bjkqwert77 3 жыл бұрын
@@TorqAmp Thanks for the fast response. Unfortunately, Hondata doesn't have any product for R16 engines. I checked your website and figured out how to install the kit in my car. My only consideration is the ECU. Since this is an economy class engine, ECU programming is very limited and no one made custom remaps or ECU for it. My ECU has already tuned with a prepared remap but tuners can't customize that r16 engine ECU's here. Only prepared remaps exists You wrote that some ECU's regulate everything. If you don't mind, which ECU/Engines are them? I am asking it to figure out how my ECU will response to the system without tuning.
@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 3 жыл бұрын
@@bjkqwert77 okay maybe one more suggestion. When it's possible to program another ecu map it could be that you talked to a slave tuner, slave tuners have limited tools to program a certain ecu. Maybe there are master tuners for your ecu and these have more rights/possibilities. Maybe hard to find because "master" is a widely used term. The so called master tuners make the map for the slave tuners. The master tuners have more expensive tools/licenses. You can check for example the Lexus is200 video on our channel. I've only used a simple SplitSecond voltage clamp to limit the MAP sensor value. So it doesn't go out of range and the ECU will behave correctly, also under boost. People use the same trick for belt driven superchargers on the same engine. On some old cars with ealry ECU's we saw that they will protect the engine in the lower rpm's but you measure nice gains in the higher rpms.

Not sure if you got your answer yet, but considering it's probably a 4 cylinder and presumably 2.0L, it should depend on your tune and possibly your transmission. Expect a drop from the extra "bottle neck" of the amp before it spins. But when you do activate it, expect it to jump anywhere from 20-50 hp on just a quick tune. I imagine you could get higher hp with a standalone ecu and full control the engine. (LX model hp being used in this estimate)

The TorqAmp kit is connected to the 12V battery. This is the only mandatory electrical connection. The activation of the TorqAmp could be simple via a kick down switch which is stand alone. The car (after tuning) will measure the additional air and will provide the additional fuel the same way as for any other type of boosting. Another way to activate the TorqAmp is based on TPS (throttle position) and then requires additional wiring. It simply measures the position of the throttle valve. @TorqAmp

Thanks for the interest. The TorqAmp compressor is most of the time standing still because you don't need boost while cruising. Only for fast accelerations it needs to be turned on. So 10 seconds of boost is relatively long. The rule is 1 second of boosting requires ~10 seconds of charging. The buffer has enough energy for ~4min of boosting straight so in general we can say it's last forever. The compressor requires watercooling when you want to use it 4min straight but this is not the case for normal street use.

@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 5 жыл бұрын
We haven't tried the TORQAMP on a E90 330 yet. The car will drive normal at partially throttle and at (nearly) full throttle you get the additional air and can burn more fuel to have more power. We recommend to go to a local car shop so they can tune the injection time and ignition timing to be sure your engine will not break down. So when your engine is consuming oil this is really something due to the engine and can not be solved by a TORQAMP.

@@adibz959 thanks! Yes it should be possible to use a second 48V alternator to power the TorqAmp. You could consider a 48V battery as a buffer. TorqAmp what if I didn’t do any of those things? Would I get any kind of boost?
@TorqAmp
@TorqAmp 3 жыл бұрын
@@ARIODAY1 when you only add a TorqAmp and that's it you will get additional air in your engine so the engine can burn more fuel. It could be that the engine measures the additional air and automatically inject more fuel. It could also be that the engine measures the additional air and does a fuel cut because the sensor is outside the region the ECU expects. Third option is that your engine is running lean because of the limited amount of fuel. There should be additional fuel to be burned because otherwise there is no additional power. About the ignition timing. This should be timed in such way that there is no engine knock because this will damage your engine internally. Some engines have knock sensors and self learning systems so it will be compensated automatically. The things mentioned above is what a tuner is tuning in such way that your engine can run boost without getting damaged.

That's right, air heats up due to compression. On this page we have a graph that shows the temperature increase due to the air compression. torqamp.com/torqamp-kit/ As you can see the temperature increase is max 35 degrees Celsius. A gasoline engine could have an exhaust gas temperature around 800 degree so a part of this heat will also be transfered to the intake via a turbocharger.
