Thank you so much. This is so helpful. Currently my sulcata isn't eating and almost always sleeping. There were weeks that I was not able to bring him/her outside for sunlight and that's when he/ she became "lazy". But I'm worried because the shell seemed to have softened and there's a black "patch" in its chest. 😢 Now, I always put him/her outside for a walk and a little sunshine and then soak in water for few minutes. Hope he gets better after few days.

You say about not picking a tortoise up too much, that they are not cuddly pets etc? My red footed tortoise, after his meal and bath 🛀 loves to cuddle into my neck on a chair, he literally finds his way towards me then climbs up. Every pet/person is different so I think you have to be really careful on the advice you give here. However, the temperature advice you gave made a lot of sense x

What if the shell is to small for the tortoise???

My aunt gave me her tortoise (for whatever reason I never asked for it) but I’ve had him for over 6 months now and he was eating perfectly fine until it hit mid November. He drinks his water but never touches the food I give him anymore and I feel bad cuz I don’t want it to starve, but could this be because it knows it’s winter and he’s hibernating? So I got a herman tortoise December 20th it’s now January 16th almost a month. He is a very active tortoise. I take him out of his enclosure and let him roam on the floor he loves to do that. I feed him romaine lettuce everyday. He has a UVB and a heat lamp but even though I give him lettuce everyday he doesn’t want to eat it everyday. I’ve soaked him everyday and he barely poops. I clean out his substrate by sifting through it and I keep his enclosure clean and tidy. Am I doing something wrong? Herman has me very concerned. He does eat a lot when he is ready to eat but he doesn’t poop a lot. Am I dealing with blockage? Is there anything I can do to help him.

I got a question I'm not sure if it's common or I'm just the only one having this problem. I have a 2 month old and one hatchling sulcata tortoise. To start it off they do poop and urinate and urates do come out that's a good sign. However I have been trying to introduce fruits to them, different vegetables and weeds but they refuse to eat it. The only thing that I have seen them eat are peas. Will they grow out of it and try different things out? Or is something seriously wrong?

I got my tortoise as a present 8 years ago. She was always peppy but now she won’t eat. I do not know what is her species. Her shell is 1.5” in diameter (less than 4cm).
