What makes this extra funny is Tampa was honouring the 03/04 Cup winning team which Torts coached. And the broadcast cut to all the old players up in the box laughing, smiling, and thinking to themselves "yep that's the Torts we know and love." lmao

That year sucked my dad was stationed in Germany so I couldn't watch the games unless I stayed up all night or went to bed early and woke up at 2am. Plus they rarely ran hickey on AFN except the playoffs. Sucked since I was a lightning fan that had season tickets in the 90s as a younger kid, even learned to play at John Tuckers Hockey School and played in Oldsmar

From what was mentioned on 32 Thoughts (I didn't watch the game) it sounded like Brandon Schrader, a young ref (174 games reffed compared to McCauley's 1550) made some mistakes and was getting hassled by Torts, so McCauley was helping him out.

I never followed hockey, but years ago my wife ran a not for profit dog rescue out of our house in CT. One day she received a check in the mail from the Tortorella Foundation when he was with the Rangers. Don't know how he found or why he chose us but we greatly appreciate the support. Mine is when he called out the refs for not fixing the clock against Chicago, mostly because I was sitting a row behind the bench (2nd row) and could hear him losing his fucking mind. Dude is scary when he goes berserk. Either that or the midgame interview with Emily Kaplan? I think it was . "We suck." "Forecheck." "More forecheck."

Should have been from punching a ref. Those refs were terrible. That trip call was terrible and they wouldn’t even explain it. Same with the unsportsmanlike. Refs had it out for PHI that game.

1:58 to 2:28 is the funniest 30 seconds of content I've ever seen out of all the lip readings I've watched over the years, and there are many I've seen Jomboy do that are downright hilarious. As a Canucks fan myself, Torts really is an amazing human being sometimes. If you ever do the lip reading of when he stormed the Calgary Flames locker room about ten years ago, I'm sure you'll find some gold there.

I have a two year old so I can barely watch hockey. Still try and catch most of the Knights games but miss an occasional game. Randomly thought "eh i have some time, lets put on a random game" and it was THIS EXACT MOMENT. Really got blessed that day.

Hathaway's misconduct for that bump was pretty wild. You see players bumping and jawing all the time after the whistle. But usually not /that long/ after the whistle. After coming off the bench for a change. Kind of a weird thing to do for Hathaway, really.

my favorite part is you get a legal hit that levels someone, so the other team's teammate automatically challenges you to a fight, and the resulting penalties are less than the 10 minutes the flyer got for a 1-arm shove.

If you want to call a 2-min minor for that, fine. There is no way on God's green earth that that is a 10-minute misconduct. That is a Charmin Ultra Soft call. Heck, 15 years ago that's just normal hockey and no one would care. A fight would break out, fans would cheer, one guy would punch the other a little bit, they go to the box for 5 minutes, and we the fans win by getting to watch a more exciting and chippy game. No more it seems.

Ref gave a game misconduct, there's nothing more to say. Someone receiving a game misconduct is no longer part of the game. It's like asking why officials don't talk to the fans in the stands.
