When the Portuguese had to give up the colonial game and leave their African colonies alone, they destroyed and or vandalized the toilets and plumbing, etc on their way out. These Tories have given up the game of service and patriotism and are looting and vandalizing on their way out. Eventually we will discover what other looting is going on right now on their way out.

I find it utterly amazing that so-called ‘political anoraks’ and pollsters only go as far back as 1979. Arthur Balfour (Tory leader) lost his seat at Ashton Under Lyne in 1906. Every schoolchild should know that!

The depressing thing is that all this will just confirm people in their view that politics is corrupt. My own feeling is that - before starting on voting reform - the urgent need is to clean up the parties and the unregulated party system - obviously starting with the conservatives. Even under FPTP the parties have pretty much an iron grip on who gets to be an MP. A story I've heard a couple of times is that, when you apply to a party to join the gravy-train as their candidate in an election, you are first made to do something grubby - then you will have an incentive not to 'whistle-blow' on anyone else you discover behaving dishonourably, and of course the whips will have something to hold over you.

Not sure I buy the ‘moral outrage’ of Gove! He’s a smooth operator & was trying to channel the public outcry on this & create a sort of separation between management & unruly staff type thing that they don’t condone & feel let down by etc. But Sunak muddled the whole thing by not taking action while unconvincingly telling us he was v v angry like the rest of us. Just not angry enough to enforce standards & suspend them pending investigation - which is what every other org would do. Instead he expects us to vote for these two Tory candidates that can be so easily compromised / bought for few hundred pounds. Imagine what they’d do for a few thousand pounds…

The graph that they displayed, which is based on Betfair betting data, shows that on the day before the election was announced, the value of bets placed was around 10 times the average daily bets over the previous week. Bear in mind, this is only data from one betting firm, there are many other betting firms out there and it would not be unreasonable to assume that if you could see the betting data from other firms, it would show a similar pattern. As soon as I saw this graph when it was published in The Guardian, I knew that this was not just a handful of individuals placing fairly modest sized bets. More likely it was a much larger group of people placing bets and probably in some instances placing multiple smallish bets with different betting firms so as to try and avoid suspicion.

So cis-women who don't have a cervix for medical or genetic reasons aren't women? Trans men who have a cervix aren't men? It's not simply a 'fact' that only women have cervixes. It's a 'norm.' An inability to differentiate between facts and norms is really poor journalism. And it's still not clear how transpeople threaten women's rights in any aspect. In fact most contemporary feminists don't see any incongruity, only a particular brand of socially conservative 'feminist.'

Why keep discussing this? You’ve told us there are allegations, against several people; an investigation underway and everyone is innocent until (if) proven guilty. Meanwhile, also told us that it is damaging for the Conservative campaign and many Conservatives including Rishi Sunak are annoyed. I think that describes it. No more now please until there is actually some new development and then please just report the development.
