The fact that kislev is recommended for new players is crazy, I play on very hard on every total war game and I got SLAPPED playing kislev, forcing me to drop to normal, the amount of portals that spawn near kislev I just kept getting spread and over run by constant stacks, and plagues

A tip for everyone who wants to fight more field battles. Use the ambush stance more often and use smaller armies or single lords in order to lay traps and lure out enemy armies. :)

Great review! Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that making campaign mechanics a race completely contadicts the story and opening cinematics. Its so silly going to the chaos realms to get a soul of a demon prince and finding Greasus with a horde of ogres just chilling in the swamps of Nurgle.

Not a 8/10 As much as Im excited for mortal empires to be Implemented; the game mode is essentially holding this game back from evolving to it’s full potential by making previous games factions playable for its “new installments” do not settle for this.

in Multipalyer or AI matches you can also select the faction banner and color. that is very new for TW warhammer. we never had this without any NPC faction unlocker mods. just press the arrow buttons next to the banners and you can change your faction color and banner to one of your liking

Coming from a TW player who has been waiting for an AJ WH1/2 review: A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. "Warhammer multiplayer is so fun!" - great! Hopefully this review gets more people playing MP, the mp community is dedicated but small compared to other RTS titles and anything to help get more players into it is much appreciated!

I have seen the chaos wastes. I've collected skulls for the skull throne and sent souls screaming into hell. I've read forbidden knowledge and warped fates. I've unleashed some of the worst plagues ever seen. I've lost myself in the pleasures of unspeakable excess. But that thing at 14:40... That scares the hell out of me.

Depending on your faction you’ll either hate the campaign or love it, and props to CA for an actual mini tutorial. You want my honest opinion? Wait for Mortal Empires, the game has lots of bugs and balancing issues that SERIOUSLY need to be ironed out. Invading the realms of chaos *ESPECIALLY* Tzeentch’s realm was beyond a clusterfuck, the whole mechanic sucks and leaves you with horrible debuffs on your faction leader. Immortal Empires will be where it’s at, I’d rather do the Vortex in WH2 AGAIN, than even touch another campaign in WH3… Some factions are just not fun to play, where others like Khorne are an absolute blast.

After delaying the game for 6 months and they still can't release with the Mortal Empires Campaign. When WH2 released they were actually apologetic that ME didn't release with the game, and it came out a month after release. Here we are 1 month after the release of WH3 and the Devs just made a post saying ME is nowhere in sight. All this with CA completely ignoring the feedback from the KZfaqrs who had early access and pointed out multiple times that the Chaos Realm campaign was hot garbage. Which is why WH3 concurrent players has had the sharpest decline in the first 2 days of launch since Thrones of Brittania. 90% of the people who bought WH3 are no longer playing it. NINETY PERCENT. Let that sink in. But Joe gives it an 8/10. I don't know how much CA paid him for this review but just like the game, it's Hot Garbage. Here's you're real rating for WH3 - 5/10. Save your money until it's playable.

Warhammer 3 sucks. They need to ditch the whole realms of chaos mechanic. There is absolutely no incentive to aggressively expand across the map because doing so only leave you open to invasion by the countless rifts that keep opening up across the map. What's the point in even having a campaign map when you have to keep sending your armies into the rift to collect souls. All I want to do is conquer the map but I can't because CA designed the game so you have to take part in the race for souls. No souls, no victory. I don't want to collect souls I just want to conquer lands, manage cities and annihilate my enemies. The game doesn't let me do that instead it forces me to engage in long drawn out missions inside the chaos realm. I don't care about the chaos realm I just want to conquer the damn map. This game is trash!

WH3 has tons and tons of problems. Broken pathfinding, ranged units running around when given attack order, units forgetting their orders, lords freezing when fighting each other, bugged supply lines mass and charge not calculating properly so chariots are useless etc. All of those things work in 2. So yeah, everything is fun with friends, but WH3 need lots of work to be a good game.

I'm surprised you actually reviewed this game in this insane game release window. TWW 3 is my most anticipated game in probably...5 or so years. The game has issues and some pretty annoying bugs, but overall I'm loving it. The demon factions are so ridiculous and thematic. I gotta commend CA on the art as well, everything looks so damn cool. Like the demon realms are insane

Something that I wish the game would make more apparent to you is that the chaos gates can be closed by a hero, unattached from the army, for a price, instead of fighting the battle. I found this out after having to run two armies as kislev trying to simultaneously defend my borders and close gates to cut off corruption. If I had known I would've kept a hero in every territory and my main army would've had a lot more time to consistently remove the chaos realm debuffs, while my second army couldve prioritized the constant northern raids. I also probably would've won the race with the church as the ice court that way since the ice court let's you pump out high level heros. The diplomacy system really saved me that run because I prioritized stabilizing and allying the dwarves and empire to the south. As a dwarf main I was surprised how well kislev benefits from a couple trollhammer units in its roster.

If you've never played the series, play the second one, and wait a year before playing this one. This is the first time i have to disagree with joe. Is the game good? It's aight, it's new and fresh, but the second one still has it beat. Chaos Dwarfs all but officially confirmed, No word on Nippon, no word on Ind, and many people questioning where Araby is since the second game. I enjoyed WH1 and 2 far more on release than this one. 70 hours in and i already can't be bothered opening it back up, so i went back to play WH2 again lol.

Yeah, I don't know why the game recommends Kislev and the Daemon Prince as the first campaigns. I would say that Ogre Kingdom, Cathay, or Khorne are much better for a first playthrough. And you should definitely start your first campaign on normal difficulty, even if you're a Total War veteran. The early game economy is weaker in general and things can get very tough at the beginning. I find it more fun to start at normal and then raise the difficulty higher later on as I get my economy up and running.

Love your videos Joe! But honestly, how can you give this an 8/10? It's basically a DLC of TW WH2 which was an DLC of TW WH1, I thought you of all would punish this game due to charging full price for basically nothing new, besides some factions and campaign. But that could've been covered in a DLC.

Damn, I haven't played a Total War game since Shogun (the first in the series, I think), but I can imagine how fun it would be to have a few friends commanding divisions of your army in a multiplayer session. The only thing cooler would be if they implemented a "fog of war" type system for communications, where you can only communicate by dispatching a messenger by horseback to your generals.

How did Joe get to fight other factions that aren't in the base game? Is that later in the campaign or because I have TWWH3 on Gamepass while my other games are on steam they're not available?

Super happy to finally see a warhammer review on the AJS I can't wait for immortal empires I just hope we can sail from the left side of the map and appear on the right side so there's more interesting interactions of factions

Everyone can disable the chaos rift campaign mechanic. Meaning you just play the map painter conquest game you wanted to. It's like 3 steps to do. Download a pack file editor, change one setting, edit one number that marks the turn the rifts start. Either delay the start event or disable it completely. There's a simple guide on reddit, just look for how to disable chaos rifts.

we finally got one. i've been playing these games ALOT since tww1, and i love them deeply. i'm not even a massive warhammer fan, but its just such a cool world, and its great to play with fantasy units. i agree with alot of joe's points, i get so tired of those settlement battles as they are just a swarming of some points... and i cannot manage to do the objective while trying to take on all the people attacking me early game, so i usually end up skipping a couple which just leads to annoying busywork later in the campaign, or just a striaght up loss without a reload.

Has Joe and the crew ever had a busier couple of months? I find it admirable that he found time for Total War when the monetary decision would have been to get out a Horizon or Elden Ring review as soon as possible to capitalize on all the hype. You can tell he still passionate about the craft even after over a decade on KZfaq.

Anytime i try to join a multiplayer game i just get an unspecified error message. Anytime someone else tries to join my lobby they get that same error.

The settlement battles become a chore very quickly making you auto-resolve them if possible. Like Joe said, CA needs to do something such as making them only playable through like tier 2 garrisons or tier 3 towns. If CA could also have a setting to have other factions compete in the campaign or do it at your own pace that would be sweet too.

What I like the most about Joe and his crew is that they all genuinely get on with each other and feed into each other's strengths and quirks, and they have been doing this for years and years. No ego trips or petty stuff with them. Just a few guys with shared interests supporting each other.

This was a long time coming and a great milestone for Joe. Not only did he miss the reviews for warhammer 1 and 2 but this is also the first total war review since rome 2 which was one of the best reviews he did in that era of the angryjoeshow.

20:40 I'm pretty sure TWW 2 had this feature too, as I remember seeing it a lot. It would mark what units were going to die in auto-resolve. It didn't tell you how many you would lose from your surviving units, but it would tell you what was going to be wiped.

Before watching the video, i just wanted to give my general thoughts for those that care, as a veteran of thousands of hours in both of the other games. Its amazing that they added multiplayer and i cannot wait to play the combined map with friends all starting as chaos or all order or even in different corners of the world etc etc the replay-ability there is endless. That stuff is truly amazing. the issue is that just about everything else in my opinion, isn't great. Its like they fired everyone who worked on previous games and how they were put together and the plot and units etc etc and just got rid of all of them and had a bunch of new people try and emulate warhammer 2. It just doesn't quite fit, its hard to explain but im sure a lot of veterans of the last two games get the same sense of what i'm talking about. They just somehow missed the spark and the sense of wonder that the setting gives in the other two games, which is quite an achievement, but an awful one. The campaign objectives and how they are set out are abysmal. It is such a jarring feeling going from the dlc's of the last two games like the wood elf and beastmen reworks which have amazing and fun new mechanics and units to boring, stale, repetitive and down-right annoying mechanics in this game. The main objective of the campaigns is just not fun to engage with. And yet if you don't do it you just lose. The game FORCES you to play a certain type of way, which is basically the exact opposite of what the other games did. Again, the wood elf and beastmen reworks/dlc really emphasized more on choosing how you wanted to do things, where you wanted to go, who you wanted to fight etc etc... there is absolutely none of that choice in this game. The game just has glaring holes in it, which make me wonder exactly who thought half of the stuff was a good idea, hence my theory that some people must have left or been sidelined for the game. The only other explanation is that they had some stuff they wanted to do (like the chaos realms) and just tried to force it into the game flow when it doesn't really fit. Not to mention the narrative is meh at best, at least the warhammer 2 one had an amazing twist at the end, nothing like that here. The quest battles in the realms and the final battle are some of the most tedious things i've ever done in 20+ years of gaming, they're just so boring and they don't change, so every campaign you have to do them over and over and over. I also feel like theres very very few units, for the big ending of the trilogy we were promised its pitiful how many units are in some rosters, especially when half of them are recycled (cough cough chaos warriors cough cough furies cough cough various dog units, spawn, knights etc etc you get the idea) and i can't help but think they may have intentionally left them out to keep them for DLC. Which i don't think i have to explain to you why thats a bad thing. There is huge holes in some rosters, which is ok other than the point where they have no real means to make up for that and don't excel in an other ways. Nurgle for example just sucks and is a real pain to play. The building stuff is unique. But that doesn't mean its not trash. The big special units like the daemons and such also seem to have very very few animations either, i don't know if i'm just now noticing it but they seem to do the same moves repeatedly. Some of the factions have almost impossible starts on higher difficulties, where you will struggle to get your empire secure by around turn 30 before you have to send you main army on vacation for sometimes 10 turns or more, all the while getting absolutely swarmed by the Ai printing infinite armies of high end troops almost immediately. You might not think that this stuff is important, but when its compiled on top of everything else it really eats away at your enjoyment of the game and being able to keep playing it. Its not saying its all bad, but if you've played and loved the previous two games like i have, the novelty of it wears off incredibly quickly and its all downhill tedium from there, especially when some of the factions don't appeal to your playstyle or aren't viable. It has potential don't get me wrong but damn. All the diplomacy stuff and sieges are great, not so sure how i feel about getting other factions units but hey. Might mean more variety one day. The ending are a disappointing joke, and definitely not worth hours of gameplay and struggle with the stupid rifts. The endings re offensively bad and its probably the most disappointing part of the game for me. To cut a even longer story short; they somehow lost the magic of total war warhammer. And the entire campaign gets worse and worse the more you play it. Its just not fun, and in many cases its downright annoying and frustrating. I also feel like they rushed the game and didn't have time or put much thought into how it would play. Which makes me worry about the future of the game, because this is a franchise i love, but i cannot recommend the game. In fact i think the campaign is pretty terrible, and sure, immortal empires or whatever they end up calling it might save the game, but a lot of these things are rooted in core game design and have made me wonder if they really can deliver on sending this incredible series of games off with the finale they deserve. The games that have made my life so much more enjoyable. I suppose we will have to wait and see, unless someone wants to tell me from their tome of fates, but i'm not going back into those chaos realms again. Those are absolute rubbish.

I feel Joe with how the chaos rifts ruin the pacing. Cant wait for the Immortal empires since that true sandbox I feel is the true game experience. I was really disappointed with when after first patch the desktop hard crashes returned, it made my life miserable enough in TWH2.

So the reason for lack of blood is a shortage in Red Pixels, they had used up their allocation in the menu's and backdrops. it wasn't possible to get more because not only other games in the same release window had acquired them, its was also released during the Valentines period where they are in high demand for all the rose and heart emojis used during this period.

As a new player I was fairly hyped after the prologue. I was having fun, doing my stuff, preparing and advancing in my pace. starting the campaign I was quite shocked after 20-30 rounds, that this is not the way, the game wants me to play now. this rift mechanic, forcing me to rush, without notice and without being prepared destroyed my hype and I stopped playing.

I hope they add customizable Lords for every faction. That would be dope.
