In this workshop, we will review advanced techniques using GLSL shaders in TouchDesigner. Through the use of modern GPUs participants will learn how to gain flexibility and increase customization.
In the first section of this workshop, the instructor will explain how compute shaders differ from other types of shaders. Next, the presenters will create a number of practical examples that make use of shaders in TouchDesigner, demonstrating how to achieve better control over particle systems and their optimization. Participants will also learn how to create more efficient 3D textures and how to manipulate them.
In the second part of the workshop, the instructors will explain how to use raymarching as a tool to visualize 3D textures and as an alternative to polygon rendering to create and render organic shapes. A discussion on mixing the traditional TouchDesigner rendering pipeline with raymarching and accessing the TouchDesigner cameras and lights in the raymarched scene will close the workshop.
Instructor: Vincent Houzé
Vincent Houzé uses modern computer graphics techniques to create interactive art, performances, and large-scale multimedia installations. His practice centres on dynamic simulations and systems in which simple rules give rise to complexity, richness, and realistic motion.
Houzé was born and raised in Paris, where he studied computer science and graphic design. Before embracing interactive art he worked in Paris and London as a visual effects designer for films, commercials, and video games. He now lives and works in New York City, where he was previously a member at NEW INC, the New Museum incubator for art and technology. Houzé’s recent work has been exhibited in the first two editions of the Day for Night Festival in Houston at Google I/O 2017, La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, the Société des Arts Technologiques in Montreal, and at the Times Art Museum in Beijing. His works has also been featured in several online magazines such as Creators and Creative Applications.

How do I use 4.30 version of GLSL TOP on mac? You explained about it in the beginning to use Vulkan but I really don't know how to do it.. Could you elaborate this please?

Sorry, macOS does not support 4.30 GLSL, the highest it supports is 4.10 so some GLSL advanced features are unavailable.

I solved installing boot camp and all the amd drivers, works fine on mac with windows 10

@@husknown This was ages ago, but if you didn't know yet TouchDesigner 2022 not has full support for all GLSL versions on macOS. This was due to us changing TouchDesigner's engine over to Vulkan last year.

I can't get the viewer working properly on 2022.31030 version of TD, I have tried with the CameraVieport but nothing to do, do you have any idea on how to sort it out ? reference: 1:10:59 Thanks !

I sorted it downloading the file and just coping the arcball camera, it would be nice to know how to do it with the camera viewport. Thanks a lot for this tutorial !! I am trying to learn more about glsl and this is really helpful !

Mac only supports GLSL 4.10 because Apple decided to depreciate Open GL back in 2018 in favor for their own proprietary shading language Metal. One of the many reasons why gaming tends be a Windows thing.
