Picked up an Onan 35EK generator at the auction and here is a tour of the machine and our attempts to get it started. It runs off of propane and will be used for temp power and a backup generator in the future.

The 300 Inline 6 that Ford built for it's "Industrial" applications were awesome engines. The Crankshaft was forged, and the camshaft is gear driven, no timing chain to stretch. You should check whether your engine has the old "Flat tappets" and check the valve lash.

I pretty much have this same unit, 1995. It was hooked up to Natural gas. Can I just hook it up to propane or do I need to convert anything? If I need to convert or do anything do you know what?

So you would need to change the type of regulator to one that flows for natural gas. Impco is the manufacturer. Search around on the smokstak forums that’s where I found the number of the guy that gave me advice, I can’t find it lol but it’s there and those people are very helpful.

@@Neverstopbuilding so all you did was run it with a twin stage propane regulator? you didn't have todo anything to the carb or anything else? Thanks

@@danielmajorowicz2661 well mine was already set up for propane I found out. It had the right “propane carb” I guess you could say, and I put a house type regulator on the tanks.
