Genius analysis again, Phil. Even on the peripheral stuff. Lanterne Rouge should watch his back 😁 Quick observation: I think Tadej lost the sprint to Jonas by starting in to light a gear. He spins out (and sits down x2) and loses acceleration, where Jonas keeps accelerating, slower, but all the way to the line... Doe that make sense?

For everyone who defends the dopers by saying "everyone did it." Everyone didn't do it, including riders we never heard of because they were a few minutes slower. Those are the riders names we would know if it weren't for all the dopers. Those are the riders who would have made a living instead of struggling to get by. What it comes down to is the dopers were liars and cheats, and Lance was chief among them.

Phil had one tiny little slip. They're not racing into Paris because of the Olympics. Instead they race into Nice with a last day time trial. A throw back to when Greg LeMond beat Laurent Fignon by nearly a minute in the 24.5km final time trial and won the Tour de France in 1989. Also, I think Greg was the first person to use aero-bars in the Tour.

As to including gravel sections: Maybe we should just roll some dice to see which _ROAD racing GC cycists_ we should remove due to a random wipe-out or dock time due to a flat *_that they could do NOTHING about,_* right? How does this determine a "WORTHY" winner of the TdF?

I’m still not sure what to make around the discussion of Abrahamsen and his weight gain. Some people are making it seem like some win for the “body positivity” movement. If he had found the success he wanted as a light climber, I’m sure he would have stayed the course. Maybe he’s eating more than in the past now but I imagine maintaining his physique is still a lot of work and something he has to work really hard on. He’s a pro endurance athlete, diet will always be one of the most critical parts whether he’s 60kg or 80kg.

And the dude seems to live for animosity so that's a lot of people. And I can't believe Hincapie keeps enabling him. He has a ton of friends in pro cycling, most likely because he's actually a nice guy, be he then uses those friendships to bolster their Podcast and in the process a man who should be nowhere near pro cycling. Matteo Jorgenson going on their pod actually disappointed me quite a bit at he seems to be such a solid dude

Got the Idea from a German commentator on yt but I wouldn't mind if the gravel stages became there own thing. These days every bicycle manufacturer has a gravel lineup. So why not use these specialty bikes for those specialty stages like in the TT. Would give another skill set some weight and I think "the biggest bike race in the world " should also challenge their participants in this way to. Nothing crazy dangerous but a course where handling skills give you a benefit.

Nobody has to let Lance comment on the Tour de France. We have a constitution that says he has the right to do that as much as you have the right to criticize him for it! The fact is, that a lot of people listen to him and therefore he is successful in his podcast. It's easy to say "Merckx and Armstrong both doped," but there is a massive difference between Merckx taking stimulants (including a substance which isn't even banned anymore) and a vast conspiracy to systematically and scientifically change your physiology to cheat in a manner that goes well beyond what most other people were doing or even capable of, not to mention the coercion required to get others to go along with it. It's like saying someone who shoplifted a loaf of bread and someone who shot up a school are "both criminals." Technically true, but also complete bullshit.

Cav didn't go on LA's podcast. He called George while George was filming the podcast with LA and George answered. Nobody in the sport was mad at LA for doping, they're mad he admitted it instead of staying retired, quiet and getting away with it. LA didn't run around snitching everyone out, other people snitched him out shedding light on the problem and widespread drug testing showed that the top guys WERE doping. To this day he's the only pro cyclist who publicly admitted to his "crimes" without testing positive. He's also the only one who has been severely punished. The fact that you still persecute LA yet turn a blind eye to Jonas going from half dead to a TdF stage win in 3 months is just remarkable. Pharmaceutical training is 100% still relevant in every sport, especially cycling and it's even infiltrating cycling amateur levels. I love you Phil but it's time to let it go. LA is definitely an asshole personally, but fuck France. Lance made everyone money. Trek wouldn't be shit without Lance. Cancer victims are alive today because of Lance. The TdF would still be a blip on SportsCenter without Lance. YOUR career probably wouldn't have existed without Lance Armstrong. I'm on your channel because Lance Armstrong brought me to cycling. He brought most of us Americans from the USA to cycling. And I'm just going to say it: By now as a country, knowing he was singled out by the Europeans for stealing their limelight, we should be rallying behind him, not joining in their false flag campaign to smear his absolute annihilation of their athletes. Take em all of drugs and LA still beats them EVERY. DAMN. TIME. I love the Tour but the United States has the terrain and the money to start our own Tour relegate France back to a blip on SportsCenter, and we should have pulled that trigger a long time ago.

@@stevenmeyer9674 not to mention anyone trying to make it as a pro in the USA over the next decade or so. The sponsor money absolutely dried up.

Although Lance was wrong, you have to give him credit for making cycling more popular and bringing money to the sport.

You have to be kidding to the Nth degree!!! The scandals he left in his wake set pro cycling back 20 years! Seriously, we're only just catching up now. No sponsor wants to be connected to cheating and that has been the perception for the last 15 years!
