I think you did a great job realistically showing the great town of Progreso, Yuc, Mexico. We love Progreso because it is not Playa del Carmen and Cancun. I have enjoyed both Playa and Cancun, but only when we just have a week or less time. For an extended stay, Progreso is great. Progreso is safe, welcoming, has a small hospital, very good doctors, great restaurants, food, markets and a beach. This video gives insight to anyone anyone looking to check out Progreso as an extended stay destination. Jillian and Jeremy nailed the important reasons why this destination works. Specifically, Merida is only an inexpensive bus away for the day. Uber is here so you can get where ever you want. Covid-19 put a damper on travel, but once we have gotten vaccinated, travel will be back and you can take advantage of other trips. Mayan ruins, cenotes, Majical cities, carriage ride, restored haciendas, Flamingos with a boat ride are just a bust ride, tour or rental car drive away.

You absolutely nailed it with this comment. Whenever we end up thinking we want to settle down, I have a hard time not thinking about just going there. The people were great...the expat community is amazing. The charities we worked with were amazing. And, the best al pastor tacos I’ve ever had in my life!! (El Gran Trumpo). We just love Progreso.

GREAT JOB on the latest video! I learned a lot like the food, how tourism is hurting, the ruins, so many things! I loved the Juliana part! You’ve uncovered the real “salt of the earth “ that Progreso has to offer! I was never bored and really loved the doggie nose boop at the end! Lots of good information here and your voice inflections really sound professional! Job well done!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thanks for the great video! Been to Progreso & Chicxulub 3 times. Love the people, history, markets, restaurants, shops, ocean - everything! The Malecon is beautiful & Carnaval fantastic! Stayed in private rentals on the ocean, owned by residents of Merida, each time - much better than big resorts, where there is little opportunity to mix with local people & experience their culture. I love it & am eager to get back when the pandemic is over. I miss Progreso & Chicxulub - the friendly people & fabulous food!

Great job Jeremy and Jillian. To have a place like that to yourselves was crazy. I know the awe of the place is a little suspect without all the many people but I liked being able to actually see the place. The roasted pig!!! It sounded so delicious. Reminds me when we went to Hawaii, they had a similar dish. Scared of the pups at the end, LOL!! Guess I would've been too not expecting it. Well, you two take good care of yourselves, loved seeing another one of your many adventures. You guys did a great job. Blessings

Hi Jeremy and Jillian, Thanks for the fresh look at Progreso. I am an Expat living in Merida. We moved here in 2014. I live with my wife and mother-in-law who were both born here. During Covid we have not been eating out, but there is a great infrastructure for delivering food and almost everything else. Even Burger King delivers. My wife was taught by her grandmother how to cook all the traditional Yucatecan dishes. I have been eating most of them during our 35 years of marriage. Cochinita Pibil is like Kahlua Pork with different spices. Another favorite is Lechon, which is cooked in a pit too. The cheese you got with the Marquesita is Edam cheese from Holland. They call it "bola de queso". There is a dish called queso relleno where they hollow out the inside and stuff it with tasty ground beef and then bake it until the cheese is so soft it can be cut with a fork. I look forward to more of your videos.

Excellent Video! Thank you so much for sharing real info on what Progreso is like…. We are looking at Progreso for a part time residence specifically because it is NOT like Cancun etc. And I’m very interested in finding out if you did connect with any local charities to work with. I’m retired and volunteer with an organization that helps to ‘house the homeless’ and I’m hoping when in Mexico, I can find a local organization to volunteer with that will benefit the local community - so if you made any good contacts or have some recommendations on organizations, I’d love to know:). AND, I thought your Spanish was excellent! I’m just starting to learn the language now!!

Hi Joyce! So sorry for the delay responding, and we can see why you love Progreso...what a gem!!! In terms of volunteer work in Progreso, we partnered with three organizations - 1) Chixculub Soup Kitchen (contact: Karen and François Cloutier) - prepared and served underprivileged in the Chixculub area, 2) Yucatán Giving Outreach (contact: Kimmi Suki) - provided "dispensa" food bags to the needy, and 3) Progreso Apoya Program (contact: Speranza Avram). All three orgs are on Facebook and are wonderful to work with...they always need a hand. Thank you for your willingness to help AND for the compliment on my Spanish. Wishing you the very best, Jillian (& Jeremy)

HI Marie!! Yes, we are here until September 16th. In terms of COVID, the restrictions feel the same as when we arrived (masks everywhere, one family member at a time in grocery / shopping stores, limited restaurant seating, no beach access, alcohol prohibition, many sites /activities closed). That said, we LOVE this area and are happy to weather the COVID storm here. We could see ourselves living here in the future!! However, for vacation....because so much is closed...I'd perhaps hold off until things open up. Safe travels and best wishes! -Jillian

Soooo helpful. Progreso just isn't a city you see mentioned much. My interest is as a potential place to retire, but I've read that power and internet are considerably unreliable due, in part at least, to a corrupt city government that was (still is?) not using public funds as they should be. What is your experience/sense? Gracias.

Thanks so much, K2!! Progreso is definitely a hidden gem which is gaining lots of popularity. In our 3-month stay, the power only went out once and we always felt safe. Jonathan R hey there! Well, good news...we just saw that the beaches are now open! As of yesterday, I believe. At least, the main one in Progreso, along the Malecon. Unfortunately, we are no longer there, but it seemed like such a spectacular beach! And the restaurants along the Malecon were pretty good as well! We walked along some of the smaller, private beaches that were not in the major areas. As far as internet...where we were staying, the internet was ok. Certainly not the fastest, but definitely not the worst we’ve seen. For small things, it was pretty reliable...but for uploading large videos (such as this one), it took almost 2 hours. So, it can be hit or miss. But we never found ourselves without it. Hope that helps!

@@lakestreet3951 it’s really not a problem for us. We respect the laws they have in place. It is simple enough to do, and it’s only for brief periods of time...so, no reason for us to complain. ☺️ One day, this will all be over with and we can go back to normal. Cheers!

@@jillianandjeremy yes, of course, you have to respect the rules of another country, no doubt. It's not a personal attack. I'm just looking for a country that respects our right to not wear such unhealthy face cloths so I can relocate to. I truly think it was the first compliance test as there was not a scientist or a virologist (inc fauci) that recommended the public to wear masks. it's the dumbing down of society, i want my kids to see their teachers face and I actually don't think is going to end. We'll be wearing muzzles forever if they get there way and there is not a scientific study in the world that says they stop the transmission of anything. It's like putting up a barbed-wire fence to keep the flies out. On a plus note, what a great video, I really thoroughly enjoyed it, what a great fun couple.
