This is one of the cleanest bus conversions I've seen. awesome job guys! I love the way you guys rearranged the positioning of the doors, added the window up front and kept the bus open with the cabinets and couch lower than the windows so they don't protrude up into that space. Thanks for sharing!
@CironartCan7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tyson, crooked things bother me and one of the things I really didn't like about other busses I saw was that the passenger always sat behind the driver not beside. If were driving long drives I don't want to be always looking back to talk to my wife. Also with the couch being a bed I didn't want to have to climb over people to exit in the front to get outside. So with the door mid way It doesn't bother anyone and don't feel trapped!

Like the way you set up passenger seat and love the door on master bedroom. Oh and colors are great too .

This is a great setup guys. I really like the layout of the bedroom and bath area. Giving me great ideas for our build. Thanks for sharing this.

So, a little OCD. We can cope. You have so much room and so much storage. Usually it’s one or the other, impressive. I love your door idea. I’m totally taking that! I drove tractor trailer for over 30 some years and was always looking at an empty seat. I want my wife beside me dammit! Another idea I’m taking. You have so many great ideas overall. Please do another video when your done. I can wait. We haven’t bought our bus yet but there is 2 school districts on either side of our land so the pickin should be good. Cheers from Canada.

I love the bedroom design. All three sets of windows surrounding the bed so you can have a full view of wherever you're parked while in bed. Makes staying at the beach that much more fun.

I have to say, Your layout is by the best I've seen on youtube. My wife and I are retiring and we want to do some traveling. After selling our RV trailer I'm not about to drop $50,00 on some cheap tossed together RV. We have been looking into the bus conversion but the big downer was the single pilot seat up front. Your layout is the perfect solution. And the rear bath and bed areas seem to flow well also. Thanks for the ideas and happy motoring to you!

Im doing a Skoolie to, I love it, I just raised the roof 18 inches, so glad I did. I am 5,6" and only had 3 inches above my head. I wanted to insulate the roof and the floor. I will be putting my holding tanks inside rather then under the bus. I when to a metal dealer and got some channel iron that just fit over the old window frames , and cut them all to the full length of the window plus the 18 " I need to to lift the roof. we used self taping lag type screws , they did a very good job. When we went to raise the roof , we cut the window post right in the middle as we were attaching the Chanel to them , two lag bolts top and bottom, I will do some welding on then as well. BUs looks really funky , the lift starts just behind the drivers seat , and ends just before the back door, Now im looking for ideas on a house fridge that runs on next to nothing, my resuerch showed me , Bosh has one but not sure how much yet, looked like it runs on like 2 wats or .

bonus points for the front door theory when the bed is being used. I've been putting off getting an rv but your comment at least narrowed down my search to one with No Front Door! I only thought of the obscured view for the driver/passenger in bypassing rv's with a front door but your comment make total sense.

Hello Kevin @ Kat,, Just a little something to think about later on down the road. When I was a child we had a camper school bus but the problem was we had no power. Nowhere to put a generator so Dad removed the rear bumper and welded a deck on the back alone with rails, not only did it give us an area for the generator but an LP gas tank. it was only 3 ft. X 8 ft but more than enough room, after it was painted, it looked as if it was factory. Oh I forgot to mention the bumper was reinstalled on the deck and we use a wire mesh for the floor. If I remember correctly it was a 68 or 69 ford with a small 289 eng. 4 speed manual trans. Great times back then for sure,,, Later guys and happy memories.

Very nice! As far as wiring - yes you don't want to use regular house wire. Another solution (and I think it's a bit cheaper but certainly a bit more work) is to use thhn stranded wire inside conduit.

I am really glad I went this way. easy to run and flexible. I bought it on a role to make it a bit cheaper too.

Also, thank u for opening up the engine compartment so we could see it! Ive watched alot of videos and they hardly EVER mention the engine or show it to us. Thats a very important componant to just skip over! What size motor does it have? Its such a long bus!! i love it!💯
@CironartCan7 жыл бұрын
Its a DT466E, These engines can run almost a million km's on them. This one has about 240km. The transmission on this model sucks though. I noticed it had already been re built and now I am having to replace it again. The engines on these can be rebuilt in the frame so the engine is disassembled where it sits and costs about 5k if I ever need to do that down the road. Still way under the cost of a class A RV and its something unique. That's why I loved doing this project. Thanks for the comment!

oh and btw I am part native Canadian , had ancestors move over there then move back when they found that there was not ideal for a mixed marriage , not that uk was much better but the area we are from was because ex native slavery descendants ... which we where too so got Mexican and Brazilian , this all came as a shock coz I was adopted , no idea I descended from that , was saying because I kinda see native in you , hope that does not upset you
@snrynkee8 жыл бұрын
Outstanding job! You used a lot of interesting ideas such as the air conditioner. Does it keep the front on the bus cool during hot days? I live in Oklahoma and it gets really hot and humid during the summer. Winter can sometimes be very cold as well, so climate control and insulation are a primary concern for me. Love your bus.
@CironartCan7 жыл бұрын
It does if the door is closed to the bedroom. It's supposed to be 14,000 btu. With both A/c's on not a problem keeping it comfortable.

At Walmart in the children's section you can get gate fasteners that are excellent to put on your refrig and freezer door so you don't have groceries spill out all over your floor. Where is your stove ? Your sink if already installed appears to be to close in the corner and back from the front edge a bit, with it so close in the corner it appears water will be splashing onto the wood wall. I like the door in the center instead of up front. I also like have you have off set the hall /entry into the master bedroom with the closet. Do you have any storage under the bus ?
@w.a.watson30786 жыл бұрын

Nice job, guys. We're in the process of looking for a bus to convert. I was intrigued by the wall plugs you're using. They seem to be surface mount units that have a design element to them. What are those and where did you find them? - Gary

They were super easy to install, I got mine at Canadian Tire. I just happened upon them one afternoon.

@CironartCan7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We are in Ontario, Canada just east of Toronto. Good luck on yours! its a lot of work but so worth it in the end to know you built this. I did tons of research on skoolie.net of other peoples builds. Marked down what I liked and disliked. Then once I got it home I went full steam ahead. Its on the road but still having transmission issues but going to do that this month.
@azimmey8 жыл бұрын
nice, does that a/c work well like that? Really like you moving the door.
@CironartCan8 жыл бұрын
+azimmey It doesn't do the entire bus as we have a smaller a/c in the back. Between the 2 it does. Thanks!!!

First, I have to say, "Love the video." Second, do you know what grade the extension cord is that you used and is it stranded wire or solid wire? Should be listed on the packaging. I would love to see a video once you have finished the bus.
@CironartCan8 жыл бұрын
It's stranded, it was the heaviest I could get. I think 12 guage. I would use the heaviest possible without going overboard.
@Corondragon8 жыл бұрын
Oh wow! Thank you so much for answering my question. You are awesome for caring about your viewers and fans.

Its coming, its on the road but haven't been able to drive anywhere yet because of transmission issues. We have been using it as our guest house. My goal is to get the transmission changed this month and use it a few times before winter.
@jitaamesuluma97306 жыл бұрын
How about a small battery fan? Its only a small area and it works on a stove to help the heat move round the bus, should be enough to help move the cold air too

Do they auction off the School buses after a certain amount of time or mileage? Where did u purchase it and roundabout how much did it cost? I would love to buy one and refurbish it into a home maybe. Thanks😁
@CironartCan7 жыл бұрын
Yes normally in the spring time they do a bulk auctions. Price really depends on area. Here I paid 3000CAD for this one and when I was looking the price was right around that or more for mostly all the ones I found. its a lot of fun to make.

how do you run the refrigerator off of your RV batteries when your not using shore power?
@CironartCan8 жыл бұрын
I have a 7500 watt inverter. I will be picking up a generator this year as well. The RV fridge we originally bought took forever to cool and once cool it was extremely hot around the back. This fridge is bigger and much nicer inside.
