WARNING: Video contains expletives
As requested, here are the various tics that cycle through depending on the day, time of day, where I am, etc. My coprolalia decided to come out in full force, so I apologize! But I have to admit, it felt good to express those and get them out of my system, since I usually am suppressing them as much as possible while the kiddos are up.
I may have forgotten some, but I think that's most of the ones that are currently an issue for me. It's a bit long - so maybe watch them in 1.5 speed. It'll be more amusing that way anyway ;-)
I do have a video of one of my bad episodes, working up the courage to post that one though. We'll see. I have a few more things in the works, so stay tuned!
P.S. I laugh at myself a lot - it makes it easier to deal with, and I know I look/sound funny, so I don't mind laughing at it. What you don't see is when the same set of tics keeps happening over and over, or I've had a long day, and I'm just frustrated and end up whining and moaning to my husband when he gets home. Poor guy. You get the cheerful version ;-)

Thank you! I have my moody days (I'm pretty down when the ticcing pops back up at the beginning of winter, because there's always a bit of a hope that maybe THAT year they won't come back), but most of the time I'm able to put it into perspective - it's "seasonal" for me, so I don't have to deal with it every day all the time, and there are so many people worse off than I am in so many different ways. I'm thankful to have, among my many blessings, a husband who loves me through it all and endures with me through the bad months.

This is the first video I've ever seen where TS is explained like this.. I find it very fascinating. Thanks for showing all the examples of how TS affects you. It helped me a lot.. I'm familiar with TS, but I don't have any sort of in-depth knowledge. Nevertheless, what you've done is show that having TS is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed by... and most importantly it does nothing to diminish your beauty; It seems to only magnifies it.

Aww, thank you so much - I feel like it might be "easier" for me to find ways of describing my symptoms just because the Tourettes-like issues didn't affect me until I was an adult, so my first experiences with it didn't come until after I had a better capacity to explain it than a child does. That's my best guess, anyway :-)

Aww, thank you :-) It was definitely a struggle initially, and in the bad seasons I struggle for the first week or so with accepting it, but on the other hand, I remind myself that it could certainly be worse. I don't have to worry about my tics killing me, for example! I just lost a friend to West Nile, and it's definitely a reminder to me that even when I'm having a hard day I still have so much to be thankful for.

I dont speak English very well but I have a question. You say the Word "f...". But if a person with coprolalia learn a new language, do you think the person would say a obscene Word not on his/her native language? You explained everything. Thanks. I learned a lot.

when you talk about a certain tic does it kind of trigger it?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 7 жыл бұрын
It does when the ticcing is more prevalent - so when it's particularly pronounced, thinking about the tics can definitely be a trigger for them (which is one reason why I don't go back and rewatch my videos, at least not during times that my tics are acting up). But, for example right now when my tics are pretty minor and infrequent, I can think about the tics in this video or watch it and not be bothered much. No unintentional swearing has happened for at least a month, LOL! Thinking about f-bombs doesn't trigger anything right now (YAY!)

Watching your video makes me wonder, if you think about a tic, you automatically start to do it?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 5 жыл бұрын
It can - it depends on how badly I'm being affected by tics at that moment. If it's in the summer, it probably won't trigger things, but in the winter when I'm already having a rough day, thinking about my tics is much more likely to trigger them.

Do your younger kids copy your movement because they dont understand what the tics are? Thanks for making this video.
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 6 жыл бұрын
They have on occasion - I think they perceive most of it as natural (ie they don't really notice that much) but on the worse tic days when it's harder to control, they do notice and sometimes will mimic them back, which can be entertaining at times! I try really hard to control my tics enough that they don't look "stupid" around the kids, because I don't want them to be embarrassed by me (not that I don't intend to embarrass them at points in their life, but I'd rather it not be because of this, LOL).

Thank You for educating us. I came across one guy that would howl and hip hop dance when I was younger. I had never seen anything like that before and laughed because I thought he was screwing with me. I felt so bad when he told me he had Tourette's. I don't laugh anymore because now I'm an emergency room nurse and see it all the time. Do they give you Valium when needed to relax you? Ok. you made me smile when you sneezed and said fuck fuck fuck fuck. That was cute! Have a wonderful day tomorrow.
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 7 жыл бұрын
When things first started up I believe valium was one of the medications they gave me (but this was nine years ago, so don't quote me on that ;-) ) - I took a couple different things that first winter, and then stopped when things died down. I was given medication in hospital when things started again a few years ago, but I don't have medication to take on bad days. Honestly, I HATED how it made me feel and as a general rule I prefer ticcing to feeling like a zombie!

Thank you for sharing. We are raising awareness about the fact that coprolalia is a common side effect of the meds used to treat TS. This article explains how coprolalia and other tardive tics (tics caused by meds that are different than TS tics) are not part of TS but are often misdiagnosed as being part of it: rxisk.org/sarahs-tourette-syndrome-story/

Is there a specific number of times you have to do a tic?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 6 жыл бұрын
Not that I've noticed, which actually is interesting considering the fact that when I was little I HAD to do things (like chewing or running a brush through my hair, for example) a specific number of times and had a lot of OCD regarding numbers and counting. I just have to do it until it feels "fulfilled" and I can move on.

When you talk about a tic and show what you do does that trigger that tic?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 7 жыл бұрын
In the months when my tics are much more prevalent, yes, thinking about a tic does tend to trigger it (though I don't have to think about a tic for it to happen, it's just something that *can* cause them to act up). In my better months, like right now in the summer when I only have a few intermittent tics, thinking about the tics in this video or watching them doesn't usually set anything off - I haven't sworn unintentionally in at least a month, LOL.

@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if I have them while sleeping - I do know that I often wake up ticcing when it's bad, but I couldn't tell you if it was the ticcing that woke me up or if I just started ticcing the second I woke up. Some nights I'll wake up nearly hourly with them though.

isn't driving dangerous if you have tourrettes?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I disappeared! Most of the people I've seen with Tourettes proper are able to suppress their tics long enough while driving to get where they need to go, or they're able to "move" the tics to a body part that isn't necessary for driving - for instance, I'm usually able to relegate my ticcing to an arm or my left leg while driving - it's not something that I can keep up for long periods of time, however (ie it requires some effort to control how the tics come, and usually after you've controlled them for awhile you have to let them out in force). Some people do have severe enough cases, however, that driving is a bad idea.

How long have you had tics for?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 5 жыл бұрын
So things first "exploded" for me just under a decade ago when I was 20. As far as I knew I had never had tics before, but last year I started doing some tics that I recognized as things I actually did in childhood, so at this point I'm not sure if I had mild tics my whole life and just didn't notice until things got bad or what. But the "got bad" part started about a decade ago.

What does it feel like to tic/when you have a tic coming?
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 7 жыл бұрын
This is a little difficult to explain. Sometimes I won't even notice that I've started ticcing, and I'll suddenly realize I'm twitching my hand or my face or something. Other times, I can feel a build-up that results in tics, but not necessarily a specific tic. So like... that *kind of* feels like when you're nervous about a test or something, and you get all that nervous energy built up inside of you. With my tics, I can hold that back for awhile until it kind of explodes out of me. Then sometimes, usually when my tics are bad, I get urges to do specific tics, and that's like when you have an itch or you need to blink - again, you can hold it off for a little bit, but eventually you just HAVE to scratch that one spot and nothing else will "fix" it. Hopefully that explains it!

@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately for me, stress doesn't seem to play a huge role, at least not that I've noticed. I was essentially tic-free in the week before/during my sister's wedding, one of the most stressful times of my life (I just bit off way more than I could chew - I made 600 cupcakes for her wedding, and was also a bridesmaid, and had a six-month-old at the time. It was just... too much, lol). But no tics then! And very few tics when I did a similar thing for my brother's wedding a few years ago (only 400 cupcakes, but I was also helping with photography... and had a two-month-old, hahaha. I apparently don't plan well). There doesn't seem to be MUCH rhyme or reason to them for me.

:)))) hi sister I recognized that if I drink coffe and Coca Cola drive me crazy 😜 sometimes it is really painful :))) how old you were when you start to having tic I was 6 years old
@MelodyLittle
@MelodyLittle 5 жыл бұрын
If you had asked me two or three years ago I would have told you I didn't have any tics until I was 20, but in the last couple of years I've started to realize things I did as a child that were "normal" to me were not actually normal, LOL. So I didn't recognize that there was a name for what I had (tics) until a couple years ago, but I'm relatively certain at this point that I had mild tics growing up and for me they just got exponentially worse as an adult instead of going away. I would say sometime between six and eight is when I started doing things that I recognize now as tic behavior. P.S. caffeine doesn't seem to have an affect on me, haha! All of the "usual" culprits don't tend to affect my tics, other than sleep. Sleep is a big one for me.

If you had taken the time to watch some of my other videos, you might have seen my story rather than just looked at this one video and calling names. Most people with Tourettes or with similar symptoms know how cruel it is to call someone else a faker, because they've been through that themselves countless times.
