He'll even autograph your water heater . Saw him do that once during an episode of the show by request from the homeowner.

@@Guardducks Adds tons of value so it's a good idea. When your water heater leaks many years later (or in some cases just a few years with the quality these days) then you can ebay it to help finance the cost of a new one.

That's right Richard, pay it forward & pass it on to the next generation. There comes a time when it's no longer about the money, especially as we get older & no longer have to compete with others in the field. Enjoyed watching you & your coworkers on This Old House for years. You guys are the best! You're not so bad either Kevin.

We bought a home in WV with geothermal heating and cooling. Great, low energy bills. In summer it can chill the whole 3800 square feet on a 100 degree day. Amazing. Waterfurnace is the brand.

Construction code has evolved and in many ways is ready to evolve more to passive house standards, this technology is what makes it possible. It would be great to see the showroom incorporate some of the cutaways of passive house construction to help everyone seeing it to understand the why. The equation has flipped and in order to achieve climate goals, capital is required up front to make the home as efficient as possible. That capex is then recouped over the life of the home through nominal energy costs.

I briefly worked as an apprentice electrician before getting injured (unrelated) and being unable to work anymore and the guy I worked for had the same philosophy he said, "You're not going to work for me forever I want you to learn from me and eventually be able to go out on your own - just don't poach my clients there's plenty of work out there for everybody!"

With so much new technology in a modern house it's a wonder that old houses cost as much as they do. It's like comparing a modern Cadillac to a 1986 Ford Festiva. The new home should cost a lot more than the old one but it normally doesn't.

Would love to meet Richard. I’ve been in the HVAC field for over 30 years and we truly need to get kids off the couch and working with their hands again.
@LennyMarkh
@LennyMarkh Ай бұрын
Pay them well and they will come. The current generation isn't sitting on the couch, they're bogged down with student loan debt and want good paying union jobs. Absent of that they are hustling in the gig economy, putting in longer days than the prior generations and being given fewer economic opportunities. In summary, they're not sitting on couches, they expect honest pay for honest work and employers just aren't offering that.
@BoilerMaker56

@@LennyMarkh that is the biggest bunch of crap I ever heard. This generation of kids don’t even know what the word hard work is. they don’t need a college degree to learn the trades and they don’t need to be in debt with the college. You are so off on what you’re saying.
