Townes Van Zandt performs "Buckskin Stallion Blues" and "The Catfish Song" live with a full band in 1987. At the end, there are also a couple verses of "Ain't Leavin' Your Love."

Music is subjective. But for me, it is Townes Van Zandt and Marty Robbins. Their music just connects to me,

I'm 71 years now, and Townes is one of the greatest you'll ever listen to...learn from his simplicity..his wordings, his chords...easy 1.4.5 stuff...one of the greatest you'll ever find on yer U-Tube stuff...also enjoy John Prine, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, and others from 1975 video from Guy Clark's house...(hint: 7 Bridges Road)

Know all about them all, and they've shaped my entire life. Idk how many times I've watch Heartworn highways. Guy is so good as well. Don't forget Jerry Jeff Walker, and others. :)

Only found Townes late in life but I'm making up for the lost time. He is good enough to make me a fan of country music.

I am also late in the game, but love his music. I am a die-hard Marty Robbins fan, but it is great to hear a guy who has Marty's ability to write and tell a story. Marty and Townes were geniuses and are so underrated.

Texas turns out more great songwriters of this genre than any other state. Great words. Steve Earle is still here. Listen to him

The funny thing about his intro to Buckskin Stallion Blues is that he's lying when he says he only misses the horse. That's the whole point of the song. He starts by saying that he doesn't think about her anymore, but the rest of the song is about him missing her.

Incredible song, best version - I like the flute... Thanks to the "3 billboards...", I hope that more people discover this extraordinary man! One of the great poets of the 20th Century! Listten to the Catfish", also heartbreaking! "Livinggis dancing, dying is nothing at all". Goos-bumps everytime I listen...

I agree with everything you said except for the part about the flute. If they would take all the accompanying instruments away and just leave Townes out there to sing with his guitar in my opinion that would be the best.

I heard her sing in tongues of silver I heard her cry on a summer storm I loved her, but she did not know it So I don't think about her anymore Now she's gone, and I can't believe it So I don't think about her anymore If three and four was seven only Where would that leave one and two? If love can be and still be lonely Where does that leave me and you? Time there was, and time there will be Where does that leave me and you? If I had a buckskin stallion I'd tame him down and ride away. If I had a flyin' schooner I'd sail into the light of day If I had your love forever Sail into the light of day Pretty songs and pretty places Places that I've never seen Pretty songs and pretty faces Tell me what their laughter means Some look like they'll cry forever Tell me what their laughter means. If I had a buckskin stallion I'd tame him down and ride away. If I had a golden galleon I'd sail into the light of day If I had your love forever Sail into the light of day

that album is what really got me hooked on townes. i ordered the album and one night sat here in my house and listened to it from beginning to end. by the end i was amazed that someone with that kinda talent never "made it" so to speak. i've been hooked on his music ever since. no one better in my opinion.

Townes is so cool... Just a real guy, that happens to be a genius. The backup band is hoaky, he is best listened to by himself. (In my opinion) If you like him, check out... Guy Clark Blaze Foley Steve Earle Wrecks Bell J.T. VanZandt All friends, all part of the time....

@hibobb123456 I agree. Thats why Live and the Old Quarter is by far his best album (of many great ones). Its only Townes, his guitar and a small respectful audience.
