It's because they don't see themselves as bad parents. They think they are justified and right in their behaviour and no matter what you tell them it doesn't get through to them. This is my experience as someone who has toxic abusive parents and a mom who favours my brother over my AFAB self.

love how boys behaviour gets written off instantly, like i've literally been hit, kicked, beaten, and literally STABBED by my brother but he's just a boy so whats he meant to do? meanwhile i got beat and constantly grounded, mouth washed out with soap etc for saying "i dont know" in response to why i wasnt feeling the best emotionally. they'd punish me for rolling my eyes or any small things like that (found out later im autistic and 90% of their issues with me was due to that),, and once they LITERALLY told me that half the reason i get in so much trouble for being rude and b*tchy is bc i look like my mom and my step mom didnt like that. years later i have so many issues that will never be fixed, they destroyed any chance i had at having a life before i even had a chance to do anything

The reason there are so many violent toxic men in the world is because of this. Why are boys never told no and girls are forced to be young adults and not allowed to have as much fun. It’s patriarchy conditioning and it needs to stop. I think we should have all gender kid scouts, toys mixed in the same isle, no more baby dolls and making girls pretend to have babies (it’s creepy), etc. Also guns, etc shouldn’t be pushed on boys. We played with water guns which was fun as long as kids know the different . Also it wasn’t bloody or gorey. We played with water. Same with water balloons. I was called a tomboy, even though it’s perfectly fine for girls to do fun things. I’m also autistic. The best thing to do is seek out other autistic people or even people with ADD. Don’t waste time with people who don’t make an effort to understand you or respect you.

As a mother of two girls, i simply could not FATHOM having a boy next and suddenly them not mattering as much? My children owe me nothing and yet they give me their love and respect each day- more than i could ever ask for. Treating any of them differently would be such an incredible disservice to them, and they didnt even ask to be here. Plus my MIL is very much a "boy mom" and it is the grossest thing 🤮 its like her sons are her extra husbands... Very odd.

Had the same problem with my boyfriend and his mum until we had a massive fight and I said it’s becoming very unnatural and unhealthy. Me and his friends told him how weird it became and he actually pulled back and put some distance (emotional and physical between his mother and him, still have a good relationship but now it’s actually healthy.) She ultimately doesn’t like me because I “stole away her son” and his time. :( She was the worst when she was single and needed my boyfriend to be there to look after and protect her. To spend all his time with her and watch films and cook with her, it was weird-

I was thinking about that & how her daughter might end up having issues with her identity down the line bc of her mom's misogyny... transmasc and knew I was trans when I was 12. Misogyny violently shoved me right back in the closet for almost 10 years and gave me a lot of issues that I'm still working through and probably will be for decades more 😅 it'll probably subconsciously seep into her the insecurity that "her mom would love her so much more if she wasn't trans", I wouldn't wish that on anyone and I feel so bad for this girl... I hope she'll be alright and find a support network outside of family

A childhood friend of mine had a toxic boy mum, though I don't know if he realised it. He was an only child so it wasn't obvious in the way of favouritism, but when at 17 he told his parents he was gay, his mum burst into tears, hugged him, and told him "now im the only woman you'll ever love." Which freaked me out when he told me, he admoted it made him uncomfortable but he didn't know why.

Did anyone know that gender reveal parties started by a woman who suffered so many miscarriages she had never gotten to the point that she could even know the gender. She had finally gotten to a safe point in a pregnancy and got to know the gender and wanted to celebrate her finally healthy baby Children should not be born with a job. Not the job of fixing a relationship. Not the job of making you feel valued and loved. Not the job of giving you purpose. Not the job of taking care of you. Not the job of being your punching bag.
@alch3myst
@alch3myst Жыл бұрын
I had a friend (no longer a friend bc she’s a deeply unhealthy person with one hell of a cruel streak) who, upon the emerging dissolution of her marriage to a dude she’d only known 6 months prior to marrying, decided having a baby was THE solution to her marriage problems. So she was already in an unhappy marriage I don’t think she ever *actually* wanted in the first place to a man who routinely and actively ignored her wants and needs in favor of shaping her into the person he wanted her to be (a passive Mormon tradwife pretty much), who went on to have a baby she didn’t *actually* want so it could fix her marriage, but that didn’t work so she had two more, but that ALSO didn’t work so now she’s just an even more miserable, cruel person who deeply resents her three small children for not doing their “job.” Popping out babies doesn’t fix your problems and I wish people didn’t feel so a-ok about literally creating another human for the sole purpose of serving an impossible job as mommy and daddy’s therapist.

This woman has ran around the house to stop me from leaving and put an alarm on my door and is kicking me out knowing I'm disabled and can't work, but goddamn, even she's polite enough to make sure a guest feels comfortable and has snacks at her house.

This makes me wonder if this come from the culture of wedding = sending your daughter away. Western and Asiatic cultures have this history of the wife traditionally leaving their family when they get married (because they were/are seen as properties of their father and then, their husband) And so, as time went on, and men actually started to connect with their children a bit, it created this mentality of "father, as the man of the house, must protect daughters from men to keep them"

As a mother of a 1 year old boy - some parents use their kids as a way to have constant affection: to make the perfect person to love them (my "mother" is one of them and she has an incel son who still lives with her because of it). This seems to happen more often when the parents have unhappy relationships in the rest of their lives. My view on motherhood is getting to re-live childhood from a different perspective (being the parent who can set up the fun moments and enjoy them with the kids) and watching who they turn into (its always a surprise!). I also see mother as a title to be earned, meaning just because I gave birth doesn't mean I'm a mom. I earn the title through patience, care and compassion. Its a title that can be taken away because I chose to have a baby, they did not choose to be born so I need to take responsibility for my decision. At a certain point he will be more responsible for his life, but for now, I need to give him a good start.

I was raised on the saying "A son is a son until he aquires a wife. A daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life." What that truly ends up meaning is my two older brothers got to go on and live however they wanted and I am expected to take care of my parents forever. It has often felt that way for me as both of them moved away. Yet both of my parents "feel closest" to each brother. I am pregnant with my first child and I would NEVER put horrible expectations or teach misogynistic values on them.

AHHH! Dude same dynamic between my ex and his mom! It was so so SO disturbing. The lingerie thing really brought back the memory. This is a thing that I witnessed too. She would also have VERY loud sex with one of her many boyfriends (literally all of whom were married, but she didn’t care) with full knowledge he and his brother could hear and shared WAY, WAAAAYYYY too much about her sex life with my ex and his brother literally from the time they were children. One time he told me this really upsetting story about how his mom persuaded him to take ecstasy with her, framed as this awww so sweet bonding thing but…no. That’s not at all what it was and hearing how it didn’t even register as strange to him really frightened me, and made me so sad for him. God, even thinking back on it now my skin starts to crawl. She used him as a replacement for a husband since the time he was a kid - both of them, but especially him. My ex took the brunt of this sick behavior and it messed him up so much I honestly don’t know if he will ever be capable of having a healthy relationship. Of course he was still wholly responsible for his behavior toward me and other women, but i don’t see how someone who was subjected to this sort of thing since day 1 wouldn’t be SEVERELY messed up when it comes to actual romantic relationships. She was also an incredibly unwell, fucked up person in general who refuses to take any personal responsibility for ANYTHING and purposefully leverages her health shit as emotional blackmail toward him while simultaneously stealing from him, using him, and manipulating him. She would terrorize his ex girlfriend when he and I were still together and the only reason I believe I escaped that is because she isn’t “done” with that ex yet. I’m fully expecting the day to come when she goes after me too. Mommy issues are no joke

Yep; you’re spot on. My ex’s mother is a toxic person and toxic boy mom. She treated him as a literal replacement for a partner from the time he was born - straight up abuse - and it *severely* affected the way he would go on to treat women in the future. He is incapable of having a healthy relationship with a woman. I do not think he’s a bad person, even after all the hellish things he put me through. I do think he is the end result of a lifetime of extreme emotional incest, up to and including abuse. I think he just straight up doesn’t know how to have a romantic relationship that isn’t based on a super unhealthy “mommy” dynamic. This isn’t to absolve him of responsibility - absolutely not. It still is,I was and still am even as we are both adult treated like I matter less,he can do no wrong but on the other hand almost everything I do is wrong,even existing. He is the rude,angry one at that. I was told multiple times,they wish I was never born. The saddest part is that I live with my parents and have to rely on them because of my health. Toxic boy mum is very horrible but fathers are also complicit on this.

I was in a long term relationship with a guy who had this kind of relationship, but it was with his father. It was genuinely like being in a relationship with two people, it was so toxic. It’s SO encouraging and relieving to know that that one mom is so good about healthy eating practices, about her trans daughter, all that. Makes me think that mayyyyybe she really is joking about favoring her son (since she cool about other important real life things), but maybe just doesn’t know quite how her “jokes” are coming across and isn’t aware that how she’s presenting it seems more permissive of the misogyny and mocking of peoples’ criticism rather than plainly ironic and self-deprecating/reflecting. Maybe I’m being too kind in my assessment, but MAYBE maybe she just doesn’t see what she’s doing. I hope she doesn’t truly favor her son. She seems to do so many other things right. As an Indian girl, who grew up with a brother and a quaint mother, i can certainly feel it in every way that she loves my brother a little bit more than she does to me. And I'm not saying that she PRIORITISES him. Why do you think him being a boy makes him her favorite child? She doesn’t sound like a toxic boy mom based off how you worded this. There could be other factors that go into this. Is he the oldest? @@FunFactswithAmani Well, the most straightforward answer I can give to your questions is that cause we're brown. And brown moms' generally adore their sons more than their daughters cause they think that only the sons will provide them food and shelter in their old age and the daughters will just marry off to another man and leave the house. It's nothing but what the patriarchal society has forced them to internalise eversince THEY were kids. So, we can't even fully blame them. That's why i try my best to not hate my mom, it's not her fault she was forced to think this way.

I think that's very noble and caring for your daughter, but I would also like to ask you to specify what you mean by "shattering a child's spirit," bc, as unintentional it may be, that seems similar to the toxic boy mom mentality, just reversed. I think breaking the toxic parent's spirit and educating a child on humility is a better approach that aligns more with what seems to be your intention. (Although ideally you'd be able to educate the parent and not break their spirit, either).

re: loving children with no return: one of my earliest, core memories is being extremely angry at my dad. No idea what it was about, but I'm talking blinded by rage furious. I was probably 4-6 at the time and trying to hurt him, I truthfully said "I don't even love you right now!" (I felt so bad and scared about this, but at the moment I really did only feel anger to him). He said, "that's okay, I still love you". I tried to drive the point in that I hated him, but it didn't seem to bother him (partially bc he probs knew I didn't actually hate him). But I asked him, would he still love me even if I hated him? And he said yes, I will love you forever. And I said even if I do xyz to you, even if I hurt you, even if even if even if? And his answer was always, always, always. Just one of those moments that cemented so deeply into my heart that I was loved always by my dad (and my mom!). ❤

Hey, I just wanted to say that i came out as a trans man this month to my family and my sister is very accepting and my mom and dad are trying. Two weeks ago I buzzed my hair and I think it looks really good on me because I wear a lot of grunge/ goth outfits but my parents say it makes me look butch because I look and dress feminine too as well as masculine . It really hurt my feelings because they have said in the past that they think people who look butch are ugly and I also want to dye my hair different colors which my mom said she didn’t like. She and my dad also misgender me a lot. I just want to feel beautiful and comfortable with myself. I been feeling more beautiful since I buzzed my hair but what my mom said today made me sad and doubt myself. Because of my disability and mental disorders I won’t be able to have a romantic relationship in my life but I still want people to think I’m beautiful. I don’t know what I should do. I just need advice Update: my mom and I just got into a fight about me being trans and she said that I was a girl not a boy and said I was a they. She stopped the car and told me to walk home if I didn’t shut up. She claims she supports trans people but she doesn’t accept me. I screamed at her and asked if my genitalia was more important than how I feel and she said no but she says it so hard to not call me a girl but it’s been months and we have had this conversation many times but she doesn’t care because she says she had a girl not a boy.

As an Enby who has shaved my head multiple times, I feel this. All I can say is that what you see in the mirror is all that matters. If you see yourself and your haircut and clothes as beautiful, then don't let anyone take that away from you (especially people who just dont get your style or even gender in general). I know how hard it is, but if you like it, then that's all that matters, and it will piss some people off and make others very happy. I know that when I see people with a buzzcut in public I get very happy, but I've also gotten my share of dirty looks lol

I’m sorry your parents give you such a hard time. My advise would be to focus on yourself and dress/ style the way that you feel is right for you. Because when your outer self reflects your inner self, that’s beautiful in itself and this way you show people “this is who I am, take it or leave me alone.” And who knows, maybe someone sees you with your new look and specifically because of that thinks ‘they look great and seems so cool! I wanna be their friend!’

I’ve been working really hard to make my daughter feel like she’s just as loved and valid in our family as her baby brother. Last night she told me she has bad dreams that her brother steals her bed (she’s 2). I read this as anxiety that she’s worried she’s going to be replaced by him. So I asked her if she feels like her brother gets more attention than him and she told me, “Yeah, but it’s not true mama.” Which floored me and made me feel like all the long nights, exhaustion, and forcing myself to play with her when all I wanna do is sleep is totally worth it. The only reason I could ever see myself being glad I had a male baby vs a female baby is because of the medical issues in AFAB people in my family, me included, that the males do not have. They have all been different--but all lethal without major surgery of some kind as infants. I know I won't be able to afford that, and if I had a female baby with a lethal birth defect I'd probably have to start grieving because I can't afford that medical care, especially in addition to my own. So I'd be glad I had a male baby because it means they are more likely to just...not die--based on my family medical history. My parents and my maternal grandparents and great-grandparents were all able to afford the care necessary to save their female children, but I probably won't, even if I am able to afford to have a child in the first place, and that breaks my heart honestly. I'd be happy to adopt and wanna get the mental health skills necessary to help them through that--but I'd one day still like to try and have one kid that's biologically mine if I can.

The first time I was able to take my kid back home my toxic MIL called it a "needless luxury". I'm not spending the holidays with his family this year though.
