I can tell you from my personal experience about toxicity now. My mom is no longer toxic because we have had conversation on this a few times when I let her know how toxic she was when I was growing up. But she is mostly respectable to me. But sometimes when she says something it really triggers me and gets me angry. If the same thing was said by someone else I wouldnt get angry, but she makes me angry. Thats the problem

There are parents who know they are toxic and continue with these behaviors. Please do not sugar coat the truth. There are also parents who doesn't know they are toxic. And most of the time people don't change unless they want to change. But that doesn't excuse the parents behaviors'. And it is not the responsibility of the victim to pity them or find excuses or even try to treat them. However they should understand the behaviors' is toxic and stay away from them. Intention doesn't matter if the result of the action is bad.

Hi Swathi, very informative content in all 3 videos. This will really help children or young adults or may be even some of these toxic parents who atleast have some kind of rethinking about what they do. But I would like add this point here..toxic mindset can be considered as an emotional disability, just like any physical disability. Though these children have to help themselves to be self reliant, instead of thinking of leaving the house or getting out of the house and solving the problem, they can always treat these parenting behavior as a health condition. So, when you try to treat this whole situation as an emotional health issue of the parent, the whole outlook changes, though they have to struggle themselves through it, instead of practicing these self help measures with a hatred towards their parents, they can have a positive approach. Toxic parenting is no one's fault. As you rightly said, the parents who are toxic are not aware of what they are doing. The whole practice might have come either due to what they observed and learned in their young days or complete ignorance about what is good parenting. So, if the children are able to or helped to treat this situation positively, by considering it as an emotional health issue of the parents, they can be more empathetic towards the situations and can remain more positive and helpful. Love to hear your opinion!

That's why I mentioned the kids have to reach out to professionals. So they'll understand why the parents became like that and will be able to forgive them in long term if they really feel like.

Hi Swathi, i felt so relatable with these 3 videos. Felt good to alteast understand that this is not just my issue and may be a generation's common trouble. I wish to share my experience regarding communicating to my parents. It was nearly 8 years ago that I once attempted having an open conversation with them. Dad rejected instantly; may be because he knew that I am confronting him. Or may be he hasn't had that patience to hear and admit. Such conversations never happened in our life and I still struggle to understand him. But regarding mom, it is very similar to your friend. She yelled, complained, and finally settled. More than that, I have witnessed huge change in her during the past few years. We continue to talk as woman to woman. As a person, i think, she has better understanding of herself and her choices now, more than passing own traits from her ancestors. She is surprising me as an individual every minute eventhough I failed to connect to her as my mother ...
