I’ve been riding for 34 years every day and I’m just wandering,,, what’s the attraction in riding in the right lane when not overtaking???? It shits me !!!

We have done the ride for the last 7 years in our group. Its awesome fun. We make a 3 day weekend of it and its one of the most looked forward to events in our group. Though its been pretty tame where we sit, no stunts or speeding, just everyone rolling down the hill steady and a few rev bombs for the kids. Don't know whats going on at the back of the pack though 🤷‍♂. We did hear about the accident later that day and the only thing we heard was that someone bumped into the rear tyre of the pani and as he has jerked back, he wiskey throttled. And well, thats alot of torque in a light package so you know how that goes. BUT, this is unconfirmed rumour so fk knows for sure. 💁‍♂ Hopefully it doesnt happen again. It would certainly suck if the TR did get canned.

As an old geezer (80) with well over 60+ years on 2 wheels, I cannot agree more with your opinion of group rides. As I have told for many years upon being invited on group rides, " Half of them want to go faster than I do and the other half want to go slower than I do. Add in the fact that, you never know if that rider next to you has 5 years experience or 5 minutes." Damn! that was one good looking Laverda. I have probably only seen one or two of them here. EVER. The 916 is still the most beautiful bike, in my opinion. They make me smile to this day.

I look at people that are in the car to see if they are paying attention or if they are distracted. Parents on their own with a few very young kids in the car normally get a wide berth from me.

I consider all car drivers dangerous to myself.

Did one in Glasgow many years past along with my DS daughter,scared the shit out of me,never again😢as for car drivers never trust them.

In the UK Xmas toy runs tend to be quite restrained, probably due to the fact its fucking freezing.., And old Indian blokes in Pruis tend to be the ones to avoid here.

Don’t mind the DGR - but that’s about it for me. More brain/hp ratio in an older bike. Lovely bike the 900ss - but you’ve scared me off that. I bought a modern one instead.

Couldn't agree more. Whilst in theory the toy run is a great event, the people who attend and do stupid shit make it not worth while. I've never attended and as you said yourself, you're never likely to attend, I'm not either for the exact same reason.

I get you Andy, the year I bought my 2006 Monster 620, I thought I should do the Toy Run. It was the only and last one I have done. As you say, an air cooled bike under such conditions, in 1st/2nd the whole way was no fun for me or the bike. And yes too many dickheads out there being idiots, so no, it’s a pass from me. The DGR on the other hand was enjoyable this year.

Thanks for putting all us Harley owners in the same category.. Then find out it was a sports bike... Nevertheless I agreed with what you say.. The worst riders are the ones that don't actually ride.. You will very quickly work out how bad someone is when you have to make a right turn at a roundabout or a u turn into a single lane..

Hi Andy, we've been copping it in Melbourne, with rain and endless bloody flood warnings. We have had the very bare minimum of nice warm days, with only 1 hotish humid day so far. Yeah, we get picked on, and the stupid outlaw image seems to be ingrained in peoples heads. Being a responsible senior doesn't let us float to the top either, as a helmet makes us all anonymous and perhaps sinister? Then again, insurance companies are allowed to charge very high premiums for young lads, because the actuarial tables show males as a greater risk. (never mind that women have all the minor bingles and parking accidents, which they fail to report.) Apparently it isn't sexist unless you apply something to women?

Totally agree with you on the 1% of riders being complete w&#kers at charity group rides. Unfortunately, that figure will likely rise as it seems the newer riders tend to see that kind of riding as normal and harmless. The profiling of drivers is also a form of alert/defensive riding that aids our survival when riding. The car in front that drives erratically is often due to the kind of car and time of day. After avoiding 4x4s being driven on the school run by bleary-eyed mums more focussed on the back seat than the road ahead, you get German cars driven by businessmen tapping on the Satnav or talking on the phone and then you have small Japenese or French cars driven by little ladies of an age that can barely see over the steering wheel. And don't get me started on White Van Man who drive like their going for the lap record around the Nurburgring whilst drinking their coffee from McDonalds. It's soooo good to get past these drivers and get the profile spot on!! Keep up the content, RSMF.

You should've swapped bikes with the Laverda guy for some footage and comment. As for profiling, l tend to treat them all as though they're about to endanger my life.

I cannot take this out of my head : Am I the only one shocked by the female commentator way of speaking on the news report? I have never heard such a way of speaking, or such accent. A mix of vocal fry and something stuck down her throat or up her... Nice video, we have "santa rides" here in France, I don't participate because of the same reasons. And here its in the middle of winter, let's say some inexperienced riders tend to... have fun and crash.

Around my way, a bloke who must be Filipino, has a brand-new car which he has completely totalled and destroyed the re sale value of. It is a 4WD which is covered in various kinds of gaudy reflective tape strips and sequins and what not. It looks like an old 70s jeepney. Imagine painting all the rooms in your house flat black and then expect to sell it. (del) Yesterday I saw an Asian bloke on a scooter, with crash damage, the battery falling out, and no plates. He had the grill from a black Audi taped to his exhaust, and he had no helmet or any protective gear. This is not racist, it is merely an observation, but it is provocative behaviour if you try to not fit in at all. Good luck to them if they don't screw up, but I can't see it. I've had my own episodes of doing the wrong thing in other countries, because not all rules are obvious on a holiday.

That's why I don't participate in toy runs.
