I found that my cv carbs on my xs400 worked better with the stock inlet rubbers with spaces on the end to mount the pods. If you put the pods straight on the carbs the pressure wave would hit the back of the pod filter and return to the carb to soon and upset the carburetion. Rd250lc two-stroke was the same, it needed 3-4in spaces between the carb and the filter.

Was wondering if you could offer any help? I have a 1980 XS1100 that i recently purchased. Rode the bike home fine. Over the next few days the rear brake started dragging. I figured either the caliper piston was corroded (making it stick) or the rear master cylinder was gummed up, especially in the return/relief hole. But that wasn't the case... since i had it apart i cleaned the seals, piston, revisor and bled the system. Got it functioning again. While i had all that off, I was riding the bike and just using the front brakes, however, I noticed what was maybe causing the problem. About 20% of the rotor is rubbing on the RIGHT side of the slit portion of the bracket. The rotor doesn't appear to be bent, but it doesn't sit nice and center like your rotor does in the video. I'm about ready to remove the rear wheel (thinking maybe there's spacer or something missing) but I just read a forum where someone said that maybe the axle nut isn't tight enough. Just wondering your thoughts? thanks!

Your reasoning about high vis not being effective because the front of the motorcycle, cargo boxes and backpacks cover your high vis jacket is flawed. Of course it won’t help if it’s not visible to drivers because something is blocking it or they are texting. What about when it is visible and nothing is blocking it. Maybe a high vis yellow backpack and high vis sleeves will help. It could lessen the chance of someone rear ending you.

Nope, it won’t make one shred of difference. If they’re not looking, they’re not looking. I have a mate who is a motorcycle cop and he agrees with me. He rides in high visibility police gear and he reckons it makes no difference. In fact the only reason they wear the high viz is for when they are off the bike and directing traffic etc, it’s an OHS requirement.

I was lucky enough to get one of these and it was by far my favorite motorcycle I have ever owned. It wasn't the fastest, but it was the most fun. Simple, comfortable to ride, and lightweight. It was so fun to thump on down the road!

What diameter is that spacer you used to shorten the forks and will the oil level required be the same? Thanks for this tutorial!
@smiller78722 күн бұрын
Excellent video, here’s some extra tips, once you start getting 4-5mm preload push on the spring , you’ll find that the method shown becomes slower with lower returns each attempt at adding oil. Until like mine, you end up with several turns until the preload adjuster starts moving, so I suggest this: turn preload knob and add preload of around 5-6mm, with fill port closed and tightened, find a narrow flat piece of steel, 5mm thick, I ended up using a round drift around 5mm thick, but a piece if square steel 5mm squared would also work. Once the spring is compressed, the notches around the preload piston are exposed, and the piece of steel will fit into the gap created. Hold the steel in the gap, while you take the preload off of the spring, trapping the Steel in the gap and taking the pressure off the piston, with the adjustment knob quite a few turns off of the fully open(no preload position), allowing you to open the fill port, and slowly add oil to the adjuster as you turn the adjuster open, filling the hydraulic adjuster and removing air or voids in the mechanism. You may have to do this once or twice to get the system full of oil, but you’ll know it full, when one turn from no preload, starts moving the piston and begins to compress the spring. I agree that 10mm is the limit on spring compression, as that was about the max I achieved adding the oil. I also think it’s approximately 20 turns to full compressed, making each turn a 1/2 mm of piston travel fyi. Hope this helps, as my preload adjuster now works, and now I need to readjust my spring, as it’s way to stiff with just a small bit of preload.

Hi, Thanks for the info, I am struggling with my preload adjuster, I will try the video's ideas and your info
@smiller78715 күн бұрын
@@LollerStormeR if your preload piston doesn’t move whatsoever, after bleeding/adding fluid, or has a visual leak anywhere, then either of our suggestions may not work at all, or stop working again over time. If that the case, a rebuild of the failed part is in order. Haven’t opened either the adjuster or the piston myself, but imagine it’s not that complicated to service, though parts could be difficult to come by.

Thanks for posting and being so honest with the numbers! Without wanting to come across as a person with a poor, "money to sense ratio....." 🤪🤪. I would point out that people who circuit race "Anything" will see these numbers as extremely reasonable. I came back to road bikes, from racing 4 cylinder, open wheel, single seat racing cars and think that the cost to fun ratio, is WAY better on a bike!

Hi dear. I watched most of ur videos regarding gs1000. Unfortunately u r assembly methods are totally wrong. Plz stop to teach wrong things to peoples. Example::::::: use press for fork seal is bad idea. U said ur seal sat by uneven. If u ask me that seal is done and is damaged. U most replace it. U don't need that much force . U can use same diameter sucket and just push it by hand. Add little bit lubricant will help.

The question is Won’t that create a gap between Valve heads and Cylinders? Do really need to install? Can’t find information anywhere and manual is not clear.

Andy, I got an xs1100 1979 engine up side down on the bench. I did the washer swap, the clearances between gears changed and I could not get the set of gears installed. Until I find another way, believe in some engines is really impossible to do the washer swap.
