This is a Toyo ML210 lathe. The same or a nearly identical lathe may appear with a Sakai, Manix or Proxxon brand.

Nice Lathe, nice video! I saw a chip get sucked into the motor fan inlet. I'm surprised the manufacturer did not duct the cooling fan from a spot farther from the cutting action!

Hmmm, I did not notice. Seems it did no real harm. Of course this is aluminum......

A large helical chip gets hoovered by the cooling fan at 5 minutes and 20 seconds of the video. It hangs there and then waves goodbye at second 21 or 22 as it goes in to be re-machined by the fan vanes. I think smaller chips are being sucked in during the entire cut. I don't think a few chip swirls would harm anything either, but over time it could become a real metallic rats nest! I also doubt there are any open electrical connections in that area but if there are that might be a bigger problem.

Retrofit it with a cnc controller. Seems like it would be a really cool desktop cnc lathe

Looks like it's a copy of the Emco Unimat 3, with a couple of minor upgrades (e.g. speed control, and the zero dials). Looks like a nice little lathe to have in the shop.

I was surprised by the high quality of the tool. It's actually a very capable lathe, or it would be with a nice set of accessories. A dedicated person could make accessories for cutting threads and doing tapers. That would be a lot of fun! And a lot of work!

where did you find this mini lathe & what was the cost? also what are your thoughts on this compared to the Grizzly micro lathe? which is better?
@smallmetalworkingmachines13785 жыл бұрын
I bought it on Ebay and paid about $500 with shipping. Compared to the Grizzly, this is a much higher quality precision machine, closer to a Cowells. But the real downside is the sparsity of accessories. It would be worthwhile to invest time and money into this machine to make (or maybe find) accessories. Thanks for your question!

How many lathes do you have in your collection?
@smallmetalworkingmachines13785 жыл бұрын
I buy and sell lathes all the time so not as many as it might appear.
