This one is so easy and straightforward.
This method can be applied to most if not all Toyota and Lexus models with hydraulic power steering, please double check the fluid type in your owner’s manual first.
My simple and easy way to perform this task.

I’ve done this twice the easy way with my wife lol I drain the old fluid, put new fluid in, have my wife steer while changing to each main gear (P, N, R,D), drain again, put in new fluid, over and over till it’s red. Took about 10 minutes. Nice video! I used the Valvoline atf full synthetic and like you said, I used 2 quarts from the gallon jug I got. My wife definitely noticed the difference each time it was done.

Great video, thanks. I come from the honda v6 world (odyssey with 350 000 miles - diy), but just bought a 2012 4runner that was a little neglected. I've previously done this with turkey baster and a plastic tube at end to suck out the reservoir. I did the hook up the same as you except bucket instead of vacuum pump. I then started the engjne with a full power steering reservoir only for a few seconds and refilling in between. It allowed me to move the steering wheel during the flush. For the 4runner, I will probably ask my wife or my youngest son to fill reservoir and give me the heads up when to turn off to get this done quickly. I will add 1oz per quart AT-205 reseal at end to restore internal seals as per scotty killmer. Like that hotsauce commercial, I have put that sh** on/in everything for many years. I also love the idea of just repeatedly drain and fill, as per other comment, it proves there are multiple good ways of accomplishing tasks.

Differentiating fluid colors helps to pinpoint leakage quickly at assembly line and later at maintenance centers by service technicians. Since Toyota Care is offered for two years, any factory filled liquid will be good for that interval and doesn’t need change. So this helps quickly to detect leakages during warranty period without digging much into car internals. Engine oil has dark distinctive color due to soot, transmission fluid is red, power steering/brakes fluids are clear. So Toyota technician by glance knows if there any problem with what component to log it with service case as car arrives for maintenance.

Man, I just came back from doing some engine oil maintenance at the dealer (my 5th Gen is currently under warranty & if something happens regarding engine oil, it's their fault😂) and the service personnel there tried to sell me this particular service. Quoted me well over $200 dollars for it. I do have that Oil extractor lying around the house. Bought it for changing the engine oil on my emergency power generator (which is NOW a breeze) and been thinking on what else could I possibly use it for again and there you go and gave me an excuse. Was there something on the tip of the hose for the extractor you removed to get time into the return line? I’m looking at a extractor on harbor freight but I’m unsure if the lines will fit the return
@VikingsGarage

If it does have an adapter, you can always remove it. Should fit perfectly.

They do sell bottles of “power steering fluid” which is transmission fluid with a different dye. Just use dexron 3 or 4 trans fluid from your local parts store

Just wondering if using other brand fluids is safe for the 4runner. I hear that Toyota braned fluids, like brake fluids, has a conditioner to protect the components. Is there true?
@VikingsGarage
@VikingsGarage 7 ай бұрын
That’s a very complicated question to answer but in the shortest way possible to answer: Toyota does include certain additives in their fluids for a reason (or so they claim) so it’s always smart to use what they recommend, considering they have our best interest in mind. Me personally, I think you should do what you are comfortable with and do it regularly. Regular and proper maintenance is what makes your Toyota so reliable.
@gibstera5580
@gibstera5580 7 ай бұрын
@VikingsGarage it is complicated. I have followed toyotas recommendations, and other than motor oil, most products state something about use safe for toyota vehicles. NAPA automotive has a brake fluid stating specifically for Toyota vehicles.
