Speaking of spending less for parts, I found a set of Alpharex nova headlights for $715 on Amazon. Amazon said they were “used”. I opened the boxes and they were still completely sealed and brand new. These things got for $1300+, what a score!

Thanks for the recommendation on Hondabond, and you're exactly right the provided hardware doesn't seal... Have a '23 with this rack, dealer installed post delivery for previous owner, already started leaking. Will seal it up with some Hondabond this weekend.

Have heard too many stories of people either dropping the threaded inserts in requiring the headliner removed to retrieve them or water leaks after replacing out the roof rack. Had almost picked up a Pro rack myself for a few hundred but had cold feet on replacing it. If you have any scratches on the rack, I would have dusted the spots with a little matte black paint (SEM trim paint) before installing. Being flat/matte, it should blend very well.

Man love the roof rack choice. I need to install a ladder so I'll actually use mine..... I've threatened to take it off since I never use it.... But not sure what I'd do to seal the holes up...

@@VikingsGarage yeah I like a lot of the full slim racks out for 4Runners but they’re ridiculously expensive and I don’t need a full rack anyways. The pro rack looks a lot better than any of the baskets that sit on top of the cross bars imo. Just too high above the roofline for my liking.

@@VikingsGarage quick question for ya, do you have a video on dash cams? If you don’t, and have one, can you do a video on them please?! I’m looking into them and there’s just so many options across the entire price spectrum from $80-$1800, clearly you’d stay away from either end of the spectrum, but some run off of the rear view plug/cord, some obdII (which I’ve always been told isn’t good to leave things plugged into) to hard wired units.

I considered the FJ rack, but it was too limiting for my needs. I ended up using a full-length rack. The FJ rack does look good though.

I have had aftermarket parts on my previous vehicle. I really did not enjoy that. That is why my 4runner is all OEM now. By the way.... you got a great rack Viking. bet you never heard that before. 🤣

So I removed my factory rails and noticed the white nylon pieces are smushed down. Would this be an issue? From what I’ve read, the 2019 Pro models didn’t even come with the white nylon insert. I ordered some spare bracket mounts. I’m going to try and pull the white insert out of them and swap out the damaged ones. I believe it mostly serves as a bolt guide. I think I could clean them up so everything sits flush. Planning to use butyl tape and 3M auto sealant around the hole in the roof anyways. Really don’t want to drop the head liner and replace all 4 brackets.

I’m trying to figure out how to attach exterior window panels with my TRD pro roof rack. For FJ cruisers, the panels attach to the base bolt of the rack. I’m thinking of ordering some tubular clamps from Gzila and try to Maguyver my way through it. Despite all the hate it gets, I really like the TRD roof rack. It fits my needs and I think it looks great.

Super helpful and informative video. I have a question though. Since one of my only complaints about my 4Runner is the mediocre gas mileage, I'm wondering what effect that new rack has on your mileage and if you track it closely. Great video!

I sure do track it super closely, it affected it about 0.5 mpg give it or take. Before the rack 20 mpg was very common, now it’s more like 19.5 mpg 🤷🏼‍♂️

Question to you about a step 8:10m in the video where you put the bracket. Is water not going to leak from around outside of white tubes in there? :) Bolt hole is protected from silicon and all but what about leakage area outside of that white bracket from inside? :)

Impossible to diagnose like this. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Start by checking exhaust shields.

It’s not common, but you most certainly should silicone them.
