Finding the right combination of motor mounts for the FX16 was always a shot in the dark. The mounts have always been a weak point with the Corolla FX16, most are too soft and fail to keep the engine in check. So, I ordered every motor mount available for the AE82 and compared them directly to see which ones you should get!
UPDATE I totally forgot to list the mounts I tested:
Westar EM-8648 Manual Trans Mount
Anchor 8648 Transmission Mount
DEA A6278 Rear Engine Mount
Westar EM-8375
Duralast Front Motor Mount 8211

Great video thank you. I have big trouble finding engine mounts for my ae92 GTZ Levin. In fact, owners of this car don’t even have options for aftermarket rear mounts like you do. They are totally unavailable. I don’t like poly for the harshness either.

My westar rear mount ripped after 2 rallycross events. Filled the cracks with window weld polyurethane and it has lasted a whole season since then.

i have mad poly inserts in all of my mounts in my ae92. amazing feel but also crazy vibrations, if they make them i would just do the rear mount, given you value the comfort. i have no issues with my car vibrating enough for it to sound like there's a sub in the trunk

Your used mounts were in horrible condition. Glad to see to changed them. As i experienced Toyota didn't make own "Toyota Toyota" bushings, mounts, boots, seals, bumpers... (usual rubber parts). The original supplier for these was (ARS?, THO?), NOK Industry, so if you order engine/transmission mount from Toyota to your AE82 GT, you will get NOK rubber parts in the boxes. Unfortunately the Japanese founded company relocated the part of the production to Thailand and the quality has declined a bit in some parts, BUT they have the original casting molds, documents... so nowadays these are one of the best aftermarket parts too. Japanese mother company: www.nok.co.jp/en/company/history.html You could find the exact NOK parts (via model search / OE part number search) in the Thai site: nokindustry.com/index.php?Language_Get= For example your front engine mount: nokindustry.com/show_product.php?NokCode=3132%201%200005%203&category=ajax&wb_id=36 It is very VERY USEFUL when you looking for suspension bushings, because Toyota usually sells them only WITH suspension arms, but you could find part numbers only for the bush ;) If you don't find the exact part in NOK, you could find other AM brands from European, Russian, Indian, African, United Arab Emirates stores..., for example: Nakayama, Febest, RBI, Tenacity, Just Drive, Yamato, TedGum, Corteco, GSP, Japanparts, Vollig, Westar... Many of them just repack, but the most important, that some of them are STILL AVAILABLE which is happy in old-timer vehicles, when we try to keep them alive and didn't find anything for them. Of course the best recommended parts "always" the factory OE parts.. Sometimes these parts are better durability than the same parts from the OE suppliers, because they can produce more quality. Sometimes you could fin NOS OE parts, so it could be cheap as AMs. Owning and maintaning an old-timer is a life form :)

Thanks so much for this one. I don't know how I didn't see it till today. I'm in the middle of gathering all the bits to do a swap myself and didn't know what to avoid. Can you let me know what axles you are using? Are they the equal length ae92 type or the stockers?

When you say poly, where do you purchase the stuff? Is it like the polyurethane glue you can use on almost anything and dispense in a "gun"? Or is it some 2-part liquid mixture that self levels and hardens? The 3M window sealer with shore approx 80A I know about. I guess that is what you also were referring to in this video. Great video! Best wishes from an AE92 GTi owner in Sweden

I remember at some meet a dude used bathroom silicone for his motor mounts in his turbo EK Civic which made it heaps comfortable but he like every month he'd have to top up with bathroom silicone... Weird... Poly rubber combo, that's pretty interesting

You’re very lucky, I’ve just compared your MRC rear mount with the Toyota catalogue for the AE92 GTZ Levin. It’s the same rubber insert exactly! These are very firm rubber design with 4 thick points of contact and hard to find. Where did you purchase yours from? I’m wondering if MRC does this design for the ae92 mount housing. I hope so.

Ik this is an older video but I’m guessing you have to take off the subframe to change engine mount? I cannot get mine to fit back in without it, gonna try tomorrow

I remember how these mounts held up (or not) on my fx16...lol. I filled the gaps with window sealant to make it last longer. Btw is your transmission 6 speed?

What's the belt size for your power steering pump? I'm looking at removing the A/C compressor on mine, and the tensionner bracket and pulley that replaces it is expensive from toyota, can't find it used, so I wanted to try the same thing you did on yours, not using a tensionner at all.

Sorry, abit off topic here, may I get a slight reference from you regarding your newly bought speedmasterracing 4-1 exhaust manifold? How does it fare against the stock blacktop exhaust manifold? More improvement in low-mid or better in higher rpm? I'm consider get this to replace my stock exhaust manifold, thanks in advance!

u could just fill all the empty parts of all the mount with silicone caulk. now u would have a stiffer than oem but less than all poly mounts. mounts need to be not rock solid like poly cause they still need to absort vibration, poly mount is almost as solid as metal therefore they would crack under vibration.

have you looked at poly mounts or would they be too stiff?

Depends on which one. I made a full poly front mount and it was too harsh for daily driving. The rear mount gets all the abuse.

Interesting that there is no middle mount, it bolts to the middle of the sub-frame and the to the lower part of the gearbox. This is the part number MTC 8789/12363 - 15020 it is a must mod on these cars.

I'm always baffled how many motor mounts Japanese manufacturers puts on their cars. My Peugeot 205 has only 3... One main on the engine, one main on transmission and one on the bottom of engine block to stop it from rocking back and forth
