The new Toyota Corolla 2019/2020 can be equipped with ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) and LTA (Lane Trace Assist). This is how it works in a traffic jam and on a motorway. Real-life test.
When full range Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and LTA are active, the system assists the driver in steering control with gentle inputs to keep the vehicle in the centre of the lane, even on gentle highway curves. LTA can operate from highway speeds down to almost standstill, to support the driver also in case of congested traffic. And if it’s difficult or not possible for the system to see the lane markings, such as when they are faded, the car will follow the path of the preceding vehicle recognised by the camera and millimetre wave radar.

True, half the time it can't properly detect lines outside of highways here. But it's the road's conditions fault... most of the times not even I can see them

only disadvantage, you cant add additional modules to lower models, wich comes only with luxury models, ie. parking assist. Oh and all Toyota models badly need sound supression, because they have none

Thanks for the video.Want to mention that the new Corolla system is much better then my C-hr(the C-hr just bounces from line to line without keeping me actually in the lane ).But much worse than the audi and co. Jam assist (it's another lovely there).

Psst... I just dangle an easily-detachable 9 - 10 oz weight at 9 o'clock position on the steering wheel and make my 2020 Rav4 hybrid full-time self-driving. This constantly putting-on-of-hands every 20 or so seconds as shown in this video is actually not quite as safe. Much better and less distracting when you don't have to do that. I drive 100 mile at a time on highways hands/feet free this way. It is so relaxing. This is just how I do it.

In fact by keeping only one hand loosely on the steering wheel you can trick the system a bit. Then you have automatic steering all the time.

I bet, there is a possibility to deactivate the free hand warning. It's a GREAT technology. I have test driven a Corolla TS 2.0 and it worked perfect on the highway and in the city.

I decide against the Openpilot yet because on the highway Toyotas lanekeep works for me just great. While driving I push my left leg against the steering wheel. 99% of the time I don't get an alert. Overland or in the city the system is worthless. But I personally only need it on the highway.

4:11 Was that lane change initiated by the driver or was the car just following the car in front of it? It's seems like the lane trace/warning system was active, but still allowed the car to go to the right lane. Will it also automatically change lanes on the highway when you trigger it with the turn signal + slight push on the steering wheel?

Corolla followed the previous car ignoring lines (it is not a good information)... Not, Corolla cannot automatically change lanes.

I was able to trick my 2020 Corolla LE by using a bottle of water :) We drove from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and back and it's like 80% whopping hands off the wheel and no foot pedal at the freeway. Incredible especially at the traffic, so relaxing. Scary at first but after a couple of days, it was easy to learn the limitations. ACC and LTA comes standard here in the USA. This is the future!

If you look closely, the diver ignored the hold steering wheel prompt at 2:34 and held it too late. This caused the autopilot to disengage - you see the message popup at 2:35 if you slow down the video. This is why the driver had to brake at 2:39 - the system was disengaged. No excuses for 5:38 though!

dafff08 It does. But if stopped for longer than 3 seconds, a click on the steering wheel is required to keep the acceleration assistance on.

It's possible to put water bottle on the steering wheel? Intervention times seems very short. Otherwise it seems good. Kia, Mercedes and BMW looks better though. Especially BMWs driving assistant professional seemed very very good, it manoeuvred through a lane-less construction site on a sharp curve without intervention (on your Video). Never saw that before. Your the only one who makes such good videos about LKA and ACC Videos. Very good work. I gave you a sub. 👍

How does it work in emergency situations? For example, some unexpected object like a blown tire on the road - if I wanted to take control of the steering wheel to steer into another lane would it override my decision and try to keep me in the lane or would it let me perform that manoeuvre?

The system gracefully reacts to vehicles entering and leaving your lane. But I wouldn't trust it to see a stopped vehicle and react to it (it could only react to slowing traffic, not stopped traffic)

I can confirm that is false, I’ve had it stop my car completely at a safe distance depending on where I set the space, but it had no problem stopping if a car was completely stopped in front of me

@@matthewciprian3201yes. But I have no confidence it will go from seeing "no car" to "stopped car", it's easier to latch on a moving target and isolate the background. Even Teslas can't tell an overturned semi truck, only the human can

If I understood you correctly, you cannot set the cruise control speed with keeping the safe distance to the car in front, right? If yes, are you sure you use ADAPTIVE cruise control, not cruise control? Corolla Cross has regular cruise control also, you can switch between them using the button on the steering wheel.

It has to be a semi digital dashboard I think only the XSE has semi digital only. I can tell it’s an XSE Corolla because of the push to start.

Not every Corolla has this feature. As far as I know this is not available on every market.

Worth noting that the Corolla is just going through a mid-life upgrade, and the 2023 ones will have a new display arrangement, essentially based on a screen with various available setups. Look up the advertising etc.

What was the vehicle's reaction to the cyclist at 1:23-1:30? Did it sense the cyclist as a vehicle or something to be avoided? Or would it have hit the cyclist without intervention?

Computer saw the cyclist and started adjusting the speed to him, you can see info about it on the movie. After that I changed the lane.

Depends on the market I suppose but all Corollas get LTA in Poland, even the Egyptian Karzy trim level gets full Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 equipment.

It depends on how much time you were in "stop mode". You can easily see when I used "resume" button - when stop took more then 5-6 seconds.

How well do you find this system works? I've got a 2019 corolla hybrid (Australia). Mine wanders all over the place, even steers it's self out of the lane sometimes - triggering the LDW. Have tried on lots of well marked roads, but I think my friends Hyundai Kona LKAS works better.

Dude, just put a water bottle between the steering wheel gap so you don't have to touch the wheel every 5 seconds or so to tell the computer that you are holding it. It's a trick that works for most LTA and lots of KZfaq videos on how to do it. Or better yet, just go grab OpenPilot from Comma.ai for US$1K and you'll have even a better than Tesla experience.

I drove a 2020 Corolla and found the cruise control to work OK, but it is not perfect. Often it will accelerate too rapidly in a traffic and slam on brakes when it gets close, so it was annoying for both myself and the driver behind. I would not call it a full stop-and-go solution. It works good if there is no traffic though. On a positive note, it won't bug you for keeping hands on the wheel if you just hold one hand on the wheel (on the bottom left).
