Love my Prado! Quality through and through. It opens up all that Oz has to offer, beaches, outback and the burbs! You know it will go and go with few issues.

Prado is not designed to be a small suburban constant 7 seater. That's what Kluger is. Prado and the LandCruiser 200 are for suburbs and rural homes who need 5 seats and the odd 7 seat configuration. For people who do lots of dirt roads, tow heavy or live in extreme climates like Darwin's flooded monsoon seasons. It's also a more long term purchase with strong resale, Australia wide dealerships if you have a problem towing your caravan in the middle of nowhere and it holds its value strong.

Well written. The city nutheads dont get this and this car is a very bad choice for the city. The engine is good for the long journey and towing, but no good for quick accleration like you need in city and the suburbs. Toyota have actually decreased capacity of engine from 3.0 litre to 2.8 litre for last 2 years i think with no increase in power or torque??? Emmissions?
@OFFICIAL_VIDEO_AWARDS

@@seapen9608 2.8 has more power and torque than the 3.0 and less emissions adding greater fuel economy and is up to current euro compliance.

Yes but the Prado Fortuner & Hilux now all have the 2.8 TD donk - with the renowned diesel particulate filter exhaust issues trying to meet clean air emissions regulations, & Toyota won’t admit they have a design / engineering flaw & either redesign & retrofit something that actually works under recall! Instead they are duck shoving the problems back onto owners! This is NOT what we came to expect from Toyota, once upon a time they looked after their customers as the valuable assets they actually are but seemingly those days are now dead. If it were me I’d steer away from the 2.8TD & opt for the more expensive twin turbo V8 TD 200 series.

@@ianmoone2359 from what I understand Toyota fixed the issues quickly. And provided more education to owners and sales staff on advising owners that these cars need to run on a highway for twenty mins per month initiating the burn feature for the DPF. I believe they added a manual button to activate it on newer models. I just hope car reviewers who I don't mind just understand that this is what people need. Maybe not them but for others. If manufacturers started listening to them all, pretty soon all options for proper tough long lasting and capable vehicles will be relegated to city SUVs. Trouble is, the city car reviewers are always comparing them to the likes of Santa Fe or Mazda CX models. Always mentioning the acceleration sucks and it handles without "feel". When your up the Territory on a dirt road, it's rained non stop for a week and you have to get across a bridge with flowing water and crocodiles if you get it wrong, none of these complaints matter.

The 2.8l does have plenty of power unless you want to tow a caravan on the freeway. Anyone who says it is gutless hasn't put their foot to the floor cos if they had they would see it gets to the speed limit effortlessly & in no time at all. The only place it wouldn't be quick enough is the autobahn in Germany so before you criticise it get in one & give it a real rev.
@Jerram89

Eric Boothman I drive them almost every day at work. I can confirm they are gutless for modern conditions: you have to push them hard in everyday regional driving and this isn’t desirable. You want effortless power and torque, which these don’t have. I also drive Pajeros and frankly whilst the Prados are quieter, have better tech and are better on dirt the Mitsubishis drive and handle much better on bitumen. Sure if you’re a nomad with a van and thus don’t care about holding people up they’ll get you around smoothly but to be honest I think the Prados are talked up too much by the “Toyota or nothing” crowd.

This took 14s 0-100kmh with only driver loaded. If this gets fully loaded in a highway, try to overtake a single trailer truck, bus or a caravan will be a ‘mission impossible’.

Kind of remarkable that something as middle of the road as a Prado can provoke such strong emotions from the comment section here. How people get their knickers in a twist to such an extent is mind boggling. These are fine, they do the job. If you don’t like it, nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to drive one.

@@jimmyjimmy951 I mean Bigger overall tyre size. Not bigger rims. Same size 17" rims, but larger profile tyres. Prados 265/65R17 Is a similar size tyre that my Grand Cherokee has. That the Prado is just a fashion accessory for soccer mums, and it dose a crap job at being a family SUV, because it’s based on a Hilux. So it also does a crap job at being a “Landcruiser” because it’s not really a Landcruiser.

ottoswinebar. Read the seventh word of my last post and a clue is it starts with E... Now for some basics. The Prado is a ladder chassis with a permanent 4WD system. The Hilux is on a global platform and has an electronic AWD system and runs in RWD most of the time. Now let’s point you in the direction of the Toyota Fortuna... As it’s a Diesel engine, the car needs to be driver for over 80km/hr for 40mins or more for carbon to be burnt up in the DPF filter each week. Other wise pay for the expensive cleaning and replacement of the DPF filter

Manual burn off is ridiculous tho like it’s literally just a patch job on what’s actually a really major problem. Colorado/navara/ranger/Triton/dmax all run dpf and don’t have this problem. My Colorado gives me a message on the dash when I need to continue driving to let it do it’s thing Seems like it doesn’t matter how far you drive the hilux they still clog up and stuff out

thank you so much for pointing out how pathetically small the boot space is. What a joke. Plus the lack of USB ports in the rear, the vehicle is overpriced and carries features that would have been impressive in 1999. Plus that 2.8l diesel has the rubbish DPF filter that clogs and blows smoke.

Nikola Martinis and here is the problem. People have this notion in their heads that Toyota’s are so reliable. Firstly they still use old tech, secondly they also have problems. The difference being that majority of Toyota’s buyers aren’t the kind who are on the internet letting it be known. They literally make white goods on wheels that aren’t even in the middle of the class when compared to other vehicles
@meekacumen
@meekacumen 5 жыл бұрын
@@nikolanikola8543 reliable? Robust? Are you talking about modern Toyota? Do some research on faults with the new Toyota 2.8l diesel turbo engine... You will quickly find that is is very unreliable in relation to its dpf filter which when full cripples the car and requires a manual dpf clean. Toyota's from the 90's were excellent. Towards the late 90's however, Toyota started lacking and nowadays they are some of the most boring cars on the road.

Why do people judge cars by their usb ports and cup holders? If there is a 12v socket you can also plug an usb charger in. Why do all the brats need iPads now? The 3rd row of seats is an option. If you need a 3rd row on a regular basis for people and luggage this is not for you, go an get a van or mpv, but don’t complain. Those Prados are at least meant to be driven in town for shopping and to drop kids off at school. This is a diesel driven 2,5t body on frame offroader, more a slightly polished truck then a car.

This model Prado came out in 2009 so given Toyota's record of hanging onto a shape for 10 years and giving it small updates and facelifts throughout its life which is all it needs, I would expect to see an all new Prado and possibly LandCruiser in the next year or a little longer I'd say. But unlike Ford who need to bring an all new shape out every five years it seems to keep the car selling, Toyota don't, they just refine their cars with updates like I already said every three years roughly. Lastly Toyota did do a major drivetrain upgrade which lets face it is the most important thing on the car back in 2015 or 2016 when they switched from the 1KD engine to the new 1GD engine.
