Thanks for this video. I have been driving my Lexus CT200H with what seems to be this problem for a while. Its driveable, but makes this cogging noise (sometimes more like a slapping noise - steel clanging on steel) frequently at mid range, or on slow acceleration. No noise at idle, or at top end. Also makes this noise/mild shaking at highways speeds on low engine output. There are no engine codes. I've also checked all EGR components. All clean, and the EGR motor is fine. I've cleaned the MAF sensor, checked the plugs and coils, etc. Ran fuel injector cleaner, checked the air filter, etc. The problem is that I cannot observe this fault, because it only happens during driving, and only when the engine is on, and under load. Finally, I noticed that the engine jerks on start-up. I realized that the problem only occurs when there is a torque in the driveline. Since the computer monitors the engine comprehensively, and also monitors the Hybrid transaxle, I figured this damper/clutch component fits the symptoms. It is the one thing not monitored by the computer, and it only acts up when under load, with engine on. I'm going ahead with replacing mine.

2014 Prius with 750,000 km and engine replaced at about 600,000. i had a "chatter" which seemed to be coming from the front left axle area but was diagnosed by one dealer tech as being the exhaust pipe. made little sense to me, so i called and asked if the tech could contact me at his convenience. he told the service rep that he didn't have time. but i was assured the it would not be a problem to continue driving the car. however the noise was getting louder so i took it to the dealer i bought the car from who usually do any work and maintenance on the car. their techs said it was the transmission. given that they did not confirm the first tech's diagnosis (and either repair was going to cost about the same money) i needed to have more than a hunch. after some back and forth and verifying that the second tech was, in fact, hearing the same noise in their diagnosis as i was on the road, they ordered a transmission with low mileage from a salvage yard. but when they took it apart it became apparent it was the damper clutch. I think one spring might have come right out and another spring was disconnected or broken off on one end. the "chatter" would occur at easy acceleration and disappear at idle or under load. Waiting for the call to say its ready. Thanks for the video. I too have an unusual problem with the engine, which resulted in the first engine failing and the second engine is now doing the same thing... which has me concerned for what will happen down the road. i'll upload the video with description and post a link when I have a moment.

I want to change the engine for the same car, model year 2015-2016, and my question is: What are the things that need to be focused on when removing the old engine and before putting the other engine in its place?

My Prius 2012 with 140,000 miles on it stopped me on the road. The car engine nolonger starts but it can move or drive on HV battery only. The scan says P3147, P0335 and P0A0F. But later the P3147 stopped showing. I have changed the crankshaft position sensor, its good but I changed it. checked the reluctor plate inside the engine and its in its position and in good shape and I changed the ECU or brainbox. The crankshaft position sensor wire harness is good. Still the car can't start. Before this issue I have been having rattling and knocking sound in the engine at idle or low speed only when the hybrid battery is charging. If it's not charging the rattling noise doesn't come on. No error codes on that. I cleaned egr valve, nozzles, pc valve, inlet manifold, throttle body and changed plugs still the noise didn't stop. I beginning to think the problem is my transaxle. The MG1 motor that starts and charges the HV battery. Remember I said my car only rattles when the car is charging the HV battery on idle or low speed. Now the car cannot start. I am thinking of changing the whole engine including the transaxle. What do you think the issue is? My location is Lagos Nigeria

I know this video was from three years ago, but I have a related question and would very much appreciate your thoughts. I recently bought a used JDM (Japanese Direct Motor) engine assembly that came with the damper assembly and flywheel sub-assembly. The damper from the much newer JDM engine looks exactly like the new/revised damper you purchased. My old damper (from my 2010 Prius with 289,000 miles) looks like your old damper as well. I cannot get a definitive answer as to whether the JDM new/revised damper is compatible with my older transaxle. Some "sales people" at JDM retailers are saying it's not compatible and they recommend that I use my old one, and others say the opposite. After you installed the new/updated damper, did you have any problems? Thanks.

Can this rattle cause a vibration while car is moving? I have those springs rattling sometimes when battery is drained and car is moving slowly and depressed the accelerator and car start rattling, also when I drive after 30mph I get a lot of vibration? Please suggest

I have a sound that seems to be from the planetary gear.. my engine has not been open never.. so I would say it can be the clutch/damper... when you put the new damper the sound persists, why? That’s the same sound I get when the engine starts.. it disappears when I accelerate at high speed..

My 2010 prius is making a rattle / vibration noise coming from the front of the car when I letting go of the gas pedal slowly when I’m costing and I press the gas pedal and release it slowly. Could this be the damper.
