The brand new Toyota Yaris takes on the Hyundai Verna in a battle of supremacy for the crown of the best petrol powered compact sedan in India. While the new Toyota Yaris offers a ton of safety features and gets a nice comfortable rear seat, the Hyundai Verna does win on several counts including performance, pricing and interior quality. A Toyota is a Toyota! Low maintenance, reliable engine, economical service, cheap spare parts, high re-sale value and top-notch build quality. Sensible people would either buy Toyota or Honda.

Many are concerned that yaris is overpriced. IMO it may be due to the 7 airbags in all the segments where competitors give 6 airbags as max that too in top end only which prices above 16-17 L where some of them didn't go for more than 2 airbags. I appreciate toyota for providing that amount of safety for a car that too made in India.

In Malaysia there is no manual transmission for Honda City and Toyota Yaris. For god sake this are good family cars I have used 2 of them since 2009

You guys comfortably did not mention that yaris has electronic stability programme, hill hold assist and brake assist. For all of these essential safety features it does cost extra. But who cares about safety in this country! We care more about DRL, cup holders, bottle holders and infotainment. Funny indeed and no wonder manufacturers provide solid safe cars in USA and Europe but stupid built fancy cars in India 🤦‍♂️

I have driven Yaris at 120kmph and it doesn't even feel like it. Rear passengers can sleep like a baby. And noise isolation is almost surreal. And Ac without doubt is best I have seen. In fact with 40 degree temperature outside you will have to set the temperature to 26 degree because anything lower will make you too cold, especially on the front seats. Overall mileage is around 13kpl.

Gowtham Saran Duraisamy It is the best chauffer driven car. If you plan to drive it yourself then you should go for Automatic.

Yaris has all the safety features 6 airbags ABS EBS as standard. All disc brakes. Very low sound in cabin. It's for mature people who don't need a good looking car to get compliments. Verna looks a lot better. Good for people who need good looks and leather seats to get compliments from friends.

Wow! Indian's Verna has a LOT of features present in their model, whereas here in the Philippines a LOT of features are missing. I have a 2019 Hyundai Accent by the way. Still satisfied with its stellar fuel economy and performance.

Yaris should have been atleast 50-70 thousand cheaper than verna considering its less features but the case is totally opposite......yaris is approx 1.5 lakh expensive than verna......moreover Yaris is not yet visible on roads in good amount as of now, which shows lack of interest in yaris.

I have been using top end new verna since its introduction. 1600 CC at 120km you can easily take corner. 165km at high way didn't struggle. Smooth on high way with top spec features. It's better than my previous Honda City. Bonus point Diesel automatic with 19km at high way.

Yaris trumps Verna at the base segment J and a segment higher G. It’s loaded . Beside one can use Toyota for many many years. It’s damn reliable.

RyAn FoRmals it isn’t - we classify this as a compact sedan. The smaller cars like the Dzire are classified as sub-compact sedans.

In USA, Civic, Corolla, Elantra etc. is compact sedan, and Accord, Camry, Sonata etc. is mid size sedan.

Agree :) Being in India, you can call Suzuki Omni is a bus and Wagon R is a Van because Wagon R takes 8-9 passengers. But please don't call goat is a horse :-)) In India, we call English media schools as Convent but in America they think of that as Catholic Convent where nuns get spiritual training and celibacy.

Verna is valueable car here because of it's engine and it's looks but Yaris is attract customers by giving 1.5 l diesel engine and ac vents on roof and driving & performance is normal.but in case of verna performance & driving it feels great because of ventilated seats and refined noiseless engine with great hp Or ps.

.. Verna's from seats have very deep leg room which means you can easily get away by pulling the front passenger seat a little more towards the front than other cars like the Honda city :) . In reality, Verna actually offers adequate space. The windows and the low height on the other hand might not be to everyone s taste.. but I personally think it makes you feel private and people can't see much inside :) . .. I have the Honda city 2011 and my friend has the new Verna 2018.. But trust me.. in reality.. it doesn't matter.. yaris.. Verna..city... Ciaz.. all these are good cars :) . .. You can go for the vento, rapid and linea if you are willing to risk having a turbo.. but they surely offer slightly more fun than the NA ones to those who like the early rush :) .

Yaris gets IR cut and acoustic glasses which absorbs heat and sound and doesn't let it feel inside the cabin. Yaris also has front parking sensors which is first in it's segment

In terms of the way it looks it does not disappoint!? It is very much a disappointment and so is Toyota. They plan on bringing in badge re-engineered versions of Maruti-Suzuki Baleno and Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza, i guess they have not learned anything from the Nissan-Renault joint venture.
