According to several reports (MSN, Investors.com, etc): The toy store chain in early February started liquidation sales at 144 stores in the U.S. after for filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September. Its Canadian unit is up for sale, along with its operations around the world. Its division in the U.K. is being wound down. Amazon could be looking to purchase some locations, not as Toys R Us, rather for their own products and brand. Also, TRU apparently blames the millennial generation for having less kids than previous generations and states that as the reason for declining sales. I'll have an update video soon. Stay tuned.

I work at Toys’R’Us and I’ll be losing my job. This sucks so bad especially some of us workers that have been there for years. I grew up loving to go to Toys’R’Us to buy toys now I’ll be there when the last toy is sold

Very heart breaking. I called a store in my area and asked and the lady on phone was tearing up I felt horrible.

Man I always love going to toys r us, I still remember all the great times when I entered that store it was magical, toys everywhere but the fact that I didn’t do it online made it so much better, Toys R Us will always live in my heart even when it closes, deep down I knew this was going to happen because of online shoppers but when I went there I still had a faint hope “maybe because I still go it will keep the store from closing” when I heard the news I felt almost as if I’ve failed but regardless I will always remember Toys R Us and I will still have those memories, something that the closing of the store can’t take away from me, It just makes me sad that some kids will never know that feeling...

Inside all of our hearts, we are still toys “R” us kids.

There sure is a lot of nostalgia goggles and kids/technology blaming in the comments, dear lord. Let me say definitively, modern toys are as good as (usually superior to) toys from previous decades, kids still DO play with toys, and technology isn't the devil that killed your childhood's Toys R Us. The corporate store chain went under due to mismanagement and overpricing. When this stuff happens in such a grand scale, it's factors at the top, it's not the neighborhood kids who are much easier to point an accusing finger at.

It's because kids don't play with toys anymore. All they want today are smartphones and tablets. When I was a kid, every Christmas I would have pages upon pages of toys I wanted my parents to get me. I ask my kids every Christmas what they want and they either say "I don't know" or they just ask for a new phone or electronic device. When I was a kid I would play for hours in my room with toys. Today kids just sit around with their noses burried in their phones.

SO SAD, I feel sorry for employees and kids😣😭😢

That is sad news.

I think everyone knows why Toys R us are closing, mostly because kids are choosing tablets,laptops, or PC, phones and more staff but some kids want more toys.

I worked there for a couple of years at the Deptford NJ store. I liked it at the holidays because I took the time to help parents find the right gifts for there kids at Christmas time. I was told many times I made their kids Christmas. I would go in the stockroom and look for what they needed even though management did not want me doing that. I'm a big man child so I knew what specific figures their children wanted. The other managers didn't like working there, I didn't care cause I was there for the kids and myself.

Now, not only are 100% of the children's toys we buy designed and made overseas, but now thanks to online shopping eliminating brick and mortar stores, parents can buy these cheaply made, sometimes dangerous, lead painted stinking garbage toys from Asia without even seeing them first in a store! Wow, what an improvement technology has made in our society.

I went to my local toys r us today and nothing was on sale, I asked and they said they didn’t find out they were closing until last Wednesday. I ended up buying eighty dollars worth of stuff because it was my last trip and most of the stuff was still there

And so if someone was dissatisfied with a recent Toys R Us purchase and said "I'm never going back there again" it wouldn't have quite the same impact!

this is mainly because of online shopping. and then people start complaining about how online shopping takes forever to get to their houses. well why do you get get up, maybe find the locations of what you want, and look for it! sure, for alot of these things (like squishies, alot of kids like these things) i could understand, but seriously?! you have to go on online to get the newest barbie doll?!

I would love to start a kickstarter for a new toy store. I would have actors, wrestlers, and tournaments in board games and video games there. Kinda like a really good Dave and Busters, but with no food and toys for sale.

Me and my friend were in nottingham's victoria centre this week while I was on a trip down there to visit her. We noticed Toys R Us was still open, so we had to go in one last time. Though there was really nothing left inside, we still looked at what little there was. We both reminised about our childhood in the 80s/90s. And how every xmas the 'jeffrey and helpers stock up all the shelves' advert was one we would always sing along with, while they advertised toys were what we would hope for amongst the gifts we got under the xmas tree. Even as an adult, and with our toy playing days over, the Toys R Us advert was still a welcome on each year, and for the brief moment it was on, you remembered the thrill of being a kid! I will miss Toys R Us : the advert, the shop, and of course Jeffrey & his helpers!

This is sad to me. I didn’t grow up in a town with a Toy R Us, but that made me look forward to visits that much more. It was the best store for a kid when I was growing up, and I’m sad my kids will never get to appreciate it.

All they want are iPads and Phones”. That’s not the case, for me anyways. I’m 12, and I still play with toys. Like LEGOs, Transformers, And some of the original stuff! Anyway, it’s still sad, seeing how much Toys”R”Us has sold.

My now passed away father bought me my first plastic dinosaur (and tree/rock/volcano/mat )set there about 20 years ago when I was just a little girl. I remember it so well because it was the very first time I got to pick my own birthday present, and it was the first time I got to pick out a toy in general within such a massive store..... I played the shit out of those little dinosaurs.....

It’s sad.When I was a kid I remember going to toys r us every weekend.I mostly didn’t even buy anything I just looked around.Then at Chris time I got the fre holiday books at the entrance and circled what I wanted.Now a days kids just don’t play with toys as much.The #1 thing on this generations Christmas list are iPads,Tablets,Smartphones,iPods,etc.Back then we had barbies on our list,American girls,legos.

I was just at a Toys R Us about 17 miles out of town from where I live. Surprisingly, there were no signs in the store indicating the store was closing and/or offering discounts on any items. The place was still stocked floor-to-ceiling with toys. What on God's green earth are they going to do with all that unsold merchandise once the store closes? Lord only knows.

It was as if a million childhoods all cryed out at once and then were suddenly silenced.

It took 25 years of my life for this but finally it's closing. All the great toy stores in my area closed up when this monster showed up. It may hold good memories for some but the expensive pricing and the awful staff at the one near me will not be missed. End of an era but it devoured everything in its path to get to this state. Goodbye.

I live in Canada and luckily the Toys ‘R’ Us’ here are going to stay for however much longer. But it is sad to think that one of the pinnacles of child joy and entertainment is going to be closing down. Such a shame. Now every kid wants an iPhone or MacBook. Though I am a 2000’s kid I still actively love Lego and shopping here was and still is one of my personal favourite things to do. Such a damn shame...

Very sad. I was a kid when Toys R Us first opened. I remember going to the location near East us so many times. I continued to shop there up to now. I feel like I am losing an old friend.

I was born in 2002 (so I’m a bit behind the ‘tablets and iPhones’ generation of kids) and the news of Toys R Us closing genuinely hurt. My dad used to take me and my brother here when we were younger to buy Littlest Pet Shops and Legos and Hot Wheels and all the other things we were super into. Our younger sister has things like American Girl Dolls but I don’t think she’s ever spent hours creating dramatic stories with plastic animal toys like I did. At least she’s into squishies now along with Musically and KZfaq. I used to bring my toys + stuffed animals everywhere with me when I was a kid, but I see more kids with tablets and iPods when I’m out places lately. It might seem like a bad thing, but it might just be a cultural shift. I still see kids dragging around their favorite stuffed animals and action figures like I did. I think it’s just easier for parents to shove an iPad in a kid’s face than go out to buy them physical things to play with. But hey, I’m only 16, so what do I know? RIP Toys R Us.
