Shalom family today I will be making a guide to tracing your genealogy through ancestry both through the DNA test and the free version of the Ancestry Family Tree. A lot of people asked me when I first started my research journey how I understood what was being explained through the app and How i navigated the thousands of records to trace my family origin back to louisiana and find the culture that they may have been immersed in at the time of their habitation in louisiana.

Loved the video! Just wanted to say we are not an African American subculture 😅. We are our own people.

I am Mexican American and my DNA test results showed surprising ancestry from Senegal, North Africa and the main city of Nigeria with Eastern Central Nigeria in both portions. 👍

I love seeing American/Mexicans paying more respect to their ancestry percentages other than some being biased or excluding. Same goes for everyone in the world, but I understand some for personal reasons

You clearly look different girl, you definitely don’t just look like a black American. People just get offended when a black person is considered different or exotic. You’re beautiful btw 💕

You did a very good job sis. Love how you put ancestry over percentages. "Relation" is not exactly the same as direct lineage. I tell " AA"s ...some of us want to separate....but until they do their ancestry they won't realize how we are truly kinfolk. My family from Memphis...i got lineages coming from Louisiana and Illinois as well. History is wild😮

Creole goes back to the original colony of New Orleans as well as the Caribbean. The word Creole basically means colonial/ colonist. In the beginning of New Orleans, there were French, African, and native American people. The Spanish took over after a little while as well. The mixing of any of these groups would have been considered Creole. There were many high status and influential Creoles that made the city what it was and what it still is in some respect.

Great video, AncestryDNA and other DNA companies' percentages are all guesses. I am of Jamaican descent but my AncestryDNA results were so inaccurate, my 2nd great-grandfather from my paternal side was German but I got only 1%, one of my 3rd great grandparents from my paternal side also was Indian but I got no percentage of that, I have other mixtures on my paternal side such as English and French but they are all far so I would understand if AncestryDNA were not able to pick it up, I also got some admixtures on my maternal side as well such as Irish but they are far as well so these DNA companies just guess based on their reference panel so they will not be 100% accurate until all the population of the world are all tested

Thanks for the comment! This is true this is why I only talk about what I know and what I can prove with documents, I can’t prove the other ethnic connections but English, French, Native, even scottish i can prove, I can’t even prove what part of africa as I had mali cameroon ghana ivory coast and more but I can assume.. based on my culture that maybe we came from a african lineage Lonnnngggggggggg ago

More black people need to look more into their ancestry. A lot of us don’t know about our heritage and just assume our history is full of rape and distant African or Native American ancestry. Many have Creole heritage and don’t know about it or don’t claim it. Jewish people keep their heritage on lock and don’t simply go by “white” or “European American” (and yes I know Judaism is a religion, but Jewish can also be an ethnicity).

Hi, for me this isn’t an assumption. My families french ancestors were known for being slave owners, rapists, etc in Avoyelles parish LA. There are documents written and saved by their family which confirms the NORMANDY(s) ownership of slaves, His wife when divorcing him left a letter where she admitted to her husband “Cheating on her” with slaves. For me.. That is still my family history. It’s the truth. It won’t always be pretty, It won’t always be a ancestry free of violence, Other people should do their research so they know what part of Louisiana their family came from, If they were free or owned, Etc. Everyone’s will be different I spoke specifically to MINE. 🤷🏽‍♀️My family being a big part of louisiana slavery and share cropping is why i’m today making videos about history, slavery, and black lineage. Not everyone will take up a job like the one I have, im not embarrassed of my ancestors at all. I’m super proud. They got out of that tough situation, went on to fight in ww1 and 2, own land, move to chicago, etc.

Ancestry is open about the flaws in their percentages, they will state that someone is between 0-52 percent Irish, but we'll just put that your only 15% irish??? The proof is in the pudding, even genealogist through Ancestry say they are working on the accuracy. So don't take percentages seriously

Excellent information and presentation! I began following the footprints of my ancestors more than 30 years ago. I did an Ancestry DNA test about 8 years ago and discovered some things which I never would have discovered on my own. I found, through a first cousin match on Ancestry, that my father's "father" was actually my father's elder brother and their father was born in 1864. So, the man I called granddaddy was actually my uncle. I also was able to trace my maternal grandfather's line back to Isle of Wight, VA and in 1741 my VA ancestors were relocated to Kershaw County, SC and some went to Gee's Bend, AL. Do the research so we can share the stories of our People. If I may add, research from the standpoint of learning about your People not from a standpoint of judgement of your People. Our ancestors were working and living and If it was not for the decisions they made (good or bad) we would not be here.

it’s crazy what you find out through ancestry. I didn’t share everything I found out and all the documents but maybe i can collab with other creators and tell their ancestry stories too.

Being from Louisiana does not automatically mean "Creole" it could mean that tho'

If you trace back to Louisiana before it was sold to the US and you find people with French names. It could be Creole.

One thing you have to consider is 1) Cajuns vs Creoles 2) Slaves being sold to Americans when they moved in.
