The old Great Northern Railway route from Omagh to Enniskillen, opened in the 1850s and closed in the 1950s, is still highly visible on the landscape. In my other videos I've looked at the feasibility of reopening the stations in the two towns at or close to their original locations. In this clip we'll look at connecting those two stations on a future re-opened Omagh-Enniskillen line.
Highlights include some stations along the way in various states of repair, and a fascinating look at the Fintona horse-drawn tram.

The old tracks are still there on the footpath into Enniskillen. The path has been built along side. Used to walk that way to work.

Reopening it would cut down 1) Traffic Jams, 2) Car Accidents/Road Deaths & 3) Pollution.

20:48 - As of 2/12/20, the land is still undeveloped. Also, the shoreline often floods the A32 there.

I see. So a viaduct might be needed there?

Would you consider making a video on the old Clogher Valley railway. Some of stations such as Fivemiletown, Brookeborough and Augher still survive.

That was a narrow gauge line, wasn't it? The narrow gauge stuff fascinates me, I only learned about it recently. Would love to cover it all eventually.

Here's the link to a BBC programme you might've seen - Walk the Line, with NI's railways. Worth a watch when it becomes available.

Recently a proposal was put forward by the Southern Gov trying to get the old Derry line reopened. Plus pay for a good part of it!! It received from our politicians and councils absolutely no backing or even interested. There are a few reasons for that which I won’t go into here but needlessly to say money has a great part to do with it. Both in costs and backhanders to said politicians and councillors!! There is no interest from those who make the decisions to (NI)
Omagh Town, County Tyrone.
