Any chance of your looking at old Irish railways again?

Would love to when I get time. The old Comber-Donaghadee line might be the next candidate

Excellent manipulation of available resources aided by your passing comments.My uncle lived in Newcastle for a while before returning to live in Belfast. To escape a family gathering one December I managed to have a good look at Newcastle Station before the railway co. released the land and buildings for other uses. As children his brothers used to write to him at school adding the accolade B&CDR after his name on the envelope.

Electrical company I used to work at from 2001-2003 had its office in the Annaghmore Station building. The building in yor pitcure which was demolished, was indeed a car dealership, Renault i think. The station building was in an average condition when I worked there. Back then, i never really looked around as much as I would do now, i was in my late teens/early 20s and so didnt really care. But i think it still had the hatch in what must have been the ticket office. Round the back was a storeroom, accessed down a ramp. It must have sat on the original line. Sadly now, it too has been demolished and the entire site is now a housing development!

Really really interesting stuff this! At about 7:50 you just passed Bective GFC, there's a really old bridge just beside the entrance to that football club which I assume the train went over! But would have had no idea if I hadn't watched this

I don’t know if this line would be necessary to reopen. It feels like a duplicate line when we have a junction to the line through Clonmel.

Some interesting history in Coalisland. Just as the railways were supplanted by the road network, the railways replaced the canals. The Ulster Architectural History Society did a tour on Dukart’s Folly, a story worth looking at! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dukart%27s_Canal

I’ve often delivered Hunky Dorys crisps to Kearney’s Costcutter shop right beside Randalstown station. I’ve often left the lorry to have a nosey at the building. Nice to see it’s survived. The walkway along the top of the viaduct is worth visiting!

Hi Eamonn Fethard Station was my first home . My family lived in the station from 1954 to 1959. My dad Thomas Butler was the station master. I remember the “up” trains to Thurles and the “down” trains to Clonmel. My earliest memory was sneaking into my parents bedroom looking over the platform to watch the steam engine puffing black smoke and the driver, face covered in coal dust, looking up at us and blasting the horn and scaring us. Thanks for the memories. Eamon (with one n)

It wouldn't take much to reinstall it, a few CPOs on about ten houses and Kilmessan Station and thats it, no need to change coarse at all, but don't hold your breath, I've been hearing about this for as long as i can remember but unfortunately the greens are doing as little about it as any of the other did. They want us all out of cars so provide us with cycle lanes for our bikes and that's as good as it gets with this lot. Don't be surprised if they turn ir into a greenway.
@martindennehy30307 ай бұрын
There was no Fairyhouse station. The line on to Kingscourt and further north didn't pass through Malones garage, but a bit closer to the town at Navan glass and can still be seen.

It was such a shame to see all these railway lines shut down. Ireland had the best railway network in Europe a hundred years ago, until they were all closed down. They need to be opened up again pronto even if in a small capacity. A few houses on the line wouldn't be a problem, government would CPO and knock them down if they really wanted, we've been hearing about railways lines being relayed since i was a kid, but im not holding my breath. We've heard it all before. Green party are now in government and have good clout. They want us all out of our cars so Eamon Ryan has given us all cycles lanes for our bikes and guss where else he put them ? On the old railway tracks !
@user-tk1ok6zf5q7 ай бұрын
At about 2 minutes, you've missed where the railway line crossed the Gilford Road out of Scarva by about 100 metres. The stone supports for the former railway bridge over the Scarva canal are clearly seen on Google Streetview. There are lots of pictures of the bridge supports on Google Maps, but mostly wrongly attributed to the 'Cusher River Aqueduct' - which is nearby.

Recently a proposal was put forward by the Southern Gov trying to get the old Derry line reopened. Plus pay for a good part of it!! It received from our politicians and councils absolutely no backing or even interested. There are a few reasons for that which I won’t go into here but needlessly to say money has a great part to do with it. Both in costs and backhanders to said politicians and councillors!! There is no interest from those who make the decisions to (NI)

Something is currently being done with the tunnel. it's open on the miltown side, which goes for about 730 meters in before being blocked off by dirt. I saw tyre tracks in the tunnel, so I'm thinking they are emptying it out.There were a few proposed plans by the council a couple of years ago for reopening the tunnel so I guess that's what's happening
