Great video. Never used track archives before. I've used import tracks from project alot and archives seems essentially the same but without digging into specific projects for the bits you want. I had considered making projects for the single purpose of doing this via import from track but archives covers that. Having better browsing built into media bay or side panel would be great for any of these features.

I agree it would be much faster and convenient to be able to view or even audition track data i.e. musical ideas from the Media Bay. You can audition clips from the browser in Ableton and have been able to do so for a long time at least as far back as Live 8.

For some reason, creating my own track presets is not something I've ever thought of doing. Good time saver and very well explained in this video - although every time he pronounces attribute as "a--tribute" rather than "at--tri--bute" made me wince :-)

Haha! Well, I do have speech issues from nerve damage, so I tend to say things in ways which are easier for my lips to pronounce. Also makes for some good cringe and comedy. I may have upload an outtakes video of all the cringey goodness . 😁

Track presets should have a compressed sample-mapped file/archive that allows for easy (sample-based) previewing of instruments. The files can be like key-mapped .mogg files or something.

A compressed format would be good, espeshially for XML archives. Sometimes they can get run into GBs quite easily.

thanks alot for this vid .. I made an experiment to save tracks from Track Archives And import it for a new session, but the treatments have a large discrepancy between them and they all have a delay and must be re-set the events in their postions again

The best method (i've converted to) is this; Create clean project templates for each library you own (setting up tracks, routing etc...) Don't use them for anything else and keep them separate. When starting a new project, to mix and match different libraries, use File > "import tracks from project " and navigate to one of pre-built templates, select what you want and import it into the session. It'll also allow you to import the routing, fx, folders etc...

Hello Thank you for this great tutorial. Im a Nuendo 10.2.20 user. When I use the load track preset, in this case I want to recall/load an FX channel for toms. When I right click and press "create Track" nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? I just loaded a VST instrument and that did work, creating a new instrument from scratch.

Thank you, very informative. I’ve been trying to build big, all-inclusive templates for different styles and genres, but it seems a modular approach like this might be less unwieldy...? What do you think?

You'll need to invest a solid amount of of time setting up everything to suite your workflow. However, once you've done it you'll thank yourself. The amount of time you save is incredible, and having the ability to piece together custom templates quickly from Archives or Presets is priceless. So when you're in the middle of a project and need to import an entire section of instruments all routed and ready, just import your Archive into the project. Super simple working :D

Unfortunately, too many steps to do simple things. I do wish Steinberg improve this feature, because it's almost there. Studio One, even without presets, works currently better (you can use the browser to import tracks from a project, how cool is that?). The loading thing is pretty annoying, but you have a great way to avoid it. Also, you have to click a lot of times in order to get to where your presets are stored. And if you want to use audio files and track presets, you're going to have to click a lot! I'm trying Studio One and one of the things I liked better than Cubase is precisely the browser. Cubase it's almost there (it has been almost there for a lot of years) so I do hope that they improve the media bay and make it more useful and FASTER. Thank you for your video!

Totally agree, its the one thing that let's Cubase down. There's a lot of great ideas and features, but some never seem fully finished or integrated as well as they can be. Hoping C11 will finally put most user criticisms to bed and Cubase will finally deliver. Studio One is closing the gap, won't be long before it overtakes and people jump ship from Cubase.

@@PoundSound Exactly, it's just what you say: They never seem to fully finish and integrate the features they develop. They're always half baked and never update them.

@@PoundSound It is crazy that you can not turn the track preset audition off. The waiting drives me crazy so I just gave up. Steinberg need to reserve a new version just to have a better workflow and faster operation of Cubase instead of adding more features and plugins. Studio One got its reputation by its workflow despite having less features and it is steadily climbing to top.

@@osmancolak Steinberg need to deliver with C11. Fixing the minor bugs, improving the design and workflow. Mainly ensuring the current features are as good as they can be in terms of functionality, integration and usability. I'm all for having new features (what ever they may be), but if they are under-baked (40% finished ideas), that are poorly executed, and require additional patches to make it fully usable... then... I'm going to find a sharp desk corner and bash my head off it. Studio One will likely overtake them by version 6 or 7. Been keeping my eye on Presonus for a very long time... Just hope Steinberg can get back on track and blow off the cobwebs.

@@PoundSound +1 Cubase is my first DAW from Atari days but been using Studio One since first version and recently returned to Cubase for a movie project and although it has great features, especially for video, it was so clumsy after Studio One I couldn't believe. It is like nobody at Steinberg using it. You can feel that Presonus staff use the program because almost everything makes so much sense. I hope Steinberg take workflow and fixing, finishing features thing seriously because deep down it is a much more professional program. They just need to wake up and see what is going on around. I would love to use it again full time. I guess we will see in a few weeks where they took it. Thank you for the video by the way!

Thanks for this information. Can't believe I haven't been using track presets. Does anybody know the difference between "copy files" vs "reference files" during export track archive?
@rowanb4395
@rowanb4395 3 жыл бұрын
I think reference files will just link to the original file locations (for eg. The Audio folder of the original session you made the track archive from) and not copy them to the new projects Audio folder.
