Hi from Japan. Brilliant video! Thank you so much. Do you know Roger Barnes, by any chance, and his channel, as well as his fine book on dinghy cruising? Cheers!

こんにちは ! Thank you 😊 I don’t know Roger but subscribe to his channel . Very intrepid and the guru of dinghy cruising! Our boat is too small for 2 of us to sleep in hence the tent- great for our canoe adventures . Cheers , Steve

Hi Johnski, I would like to go out for a couple of nights from Mersea across the Blackwater. You have in the past made many trips like this and it’s an area I Love. Could you recommend a relatively safe paddle where I can pitch up for a night or two and watch the world go by? Many thanks in advance if you receive this message and can give me a heads up. Fair winds to you Paul

Wow that looks great fun, lovely boats. Does it take long to learn how to sail one? A weeks course maybe?
@johnskiahoy3 жыл бұрын
Fairly simple boats once the rig is set up properly as we’ve resisted the temptation to over rig them . ( like our Winklebrig’s !) If you’ve not sailed before a few days should to it 😃

@@johnskiahoy Thankyou so much for your kind relpy. I saw a boat maybe yours, where they let the wind push the sail to the mast. Is this a manoever to decrease speed? Or does it work as the sail is free?

May I ask ? How do you keep the boats overnight when camping ? Do you wait till high tide, then drag them up the shingle a little ? thanks
@johnskiahoy3 жыл бұрын
If possible we like an anchor pulled up on a windward shore so the boats lay off -that way we can leave if the weather cuts up rough. In benign conditions we’ll lay the heavy boats off as we can easily drag the fibreglass luggers down the shingle. We love shingle and avoid the mud - one spot gets absolutely everywhere 😂

What kind of boats are the three boats you and your friends are sailing?

The gaff rigged Winklebrig “Genesta “ the wooden smacks boat WM4 and my slightly smaller fibreglass Maldon smacks boat .

@@johnskiahoy thanks for replying. Letting people know the names of the boats is the best way of getting more people into dinghy cruising. Took the plunge and am building an Ilur here in WA. Shipping container dirth has meant the source of decent Oregon has dried up here in Western Australia. Have been considering carbon fibre spars for a while, very useful to see what they are like.

Hi again. Wondering what is on those delicious-looking oysters... From my point of view (in Japan) it looks like 'umeboshi' (salt-pickled plums)! Thanks, and fair winds...
