Thus is like a whole new world. I never knew Korea had so many different styles. I've only known of TKD. It's very similar to Chinese martial arts. But awesome to see.

No they didn't. Taekwondo came from Tang Soo Do (Shotokan) and Kong Soo Do (Shudokan). Hapkido came from Daito-ryu Aikijutsu. Kumdo cames from Kendo. All modern Korean styles have Japanese origins.

@@barrettokarate yup, the only indigenous styles are taekkyon(played past and present as a martial sport mainly),Subyokchigi,Gicheon,Bulmudo or sunmudo(Kumgang Kwon) and korean archery and wrestling. all else is japanese arts and chinese arts with bastadized fake histories post ww2 to boast korean nationalism.

It's obvious that high kicks seen in Karate came from Koreans, since there's no high kicks in Karate Kata.

Karate got its high kicks from French Savate. Who then gave them to the Koreans (who mastered them) since their indigenous arts had basically become extinct during the Japanese occupation. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbeFm5ilu73IXXk.html

I think they actually came from Savate.

@@UnknownFeng Chinese and Korean Martial arts had high kicks before the Japanese met any white French people. Chinese Wu Shu , and Korean Subak practiced by the Hwarang for example. You would find its History if you actually tried to research.

@@adhdmed I see. I was referring to Gigo Funakoshi's adaptation of high kicks from Savate into his Shotokan style. You can see the preference of hitting with the foot for piercing power vs the instep. I believe this may have been adapted from Savate from the 1870s. Shotokan came about in the 1920 and TKD was about 20 years later. It seems to match up.

@@UnknownFeng old karate didnt kick with the "instep" thats only in modern sport if you watch or research on traditional okinawan karate they kick with the ball of the foot.(even with round houses). Gigo did take a liken to savate high kicks but koreans were already doing it even when the japanese were not teaching high kicks at all to them. its kind of a korean and northern chinese thing to mainly use leg techniques.

Most Chinese martial arts use fists and palms. I have never seen a traditional Chinese martial art that actively uses kicks. Bruce Lee's martial art is not a traditional Chinese martial art, but a modern creative martial art.
