Replacing the bearings on my Boat Trailer hub. I did this video so if i have to fix my trailer bearings on the road i could look up my video to help me remember how to repair it. I have no experience fixing trailers.

THANKS GOOD HOW TO HUBS. I AM 3/4 INTO A COMPLETE OVER HAUL OF MY 2004 BOAT TRAILER I HAVE REPLACED ALL Galvanized BOLTS, WASHERS, NUTS, BOARDS, CARPET, ETC. I WAS ABLE TO SALVAGE THE EXPENSIVE U BOLTS AND HARDWEAR. I WIRE WHEELED THEM AND APPLYED COLD Galvanized SPRAY. I JUST STARTED ON THE HUDS TODAY THIS WILL HELP ALOT, BEEN AWHILE SINCE I DID A HUB. SALT WATER IS VERY MEAN TO OUR BOAT TRAILERS HERE IN SOUTH mISSISSIPPI.

Great video. May be a different application, but mine has a c-clip backed spring that holds pressure on the grease zerk cup. May help hold the grease in place better.

A bit of advice when trailer is new I removed every nut and bolt and added a coat of grease to everything and 15 years later I just replaced axel leafs and hubs everything came apart and was able to reuse u bolts which are very expensive! And all new hardware was re greased everything leafs and bolts that hold them to hangers so I will never have a problem getting them apart works great and put a light coat of grease on hubs and lug threads

Jeff Turner yep put a light coat of grease on everything it will all come apart nicely and I do my lower unit bolts on my outbound also

The axle manufacturers do not recommend placing a jack under the axle as this could damage the axle. It's best to use the jack under the frame.

It looks like at least a 40x40 square axle, so rated to 1000kg. I can't see how jacking it off the axle could possibly hurt it.

Each seal has two sealing contact points which includes the inter-sealing contact point having a wire. If you are not careful when you are seating the seal (e.g. driving the seal in with a hammer and 2x4), you will make that inter-seal wire pop out. Meaning, the seal will fail sooner. I would press the seal in, and not use a hammer and 2x4 method when installing it

You can remove the seal with minimal if any damage by knocking both the bearing and seal out from the inside. a large socket just smaller than the inner race on an extension and a few taps with a hammer ... but if you are going to do all the work, why not replace the bearings, race & seal ...

or just leave the wheel on, remove the front bearing then replace the washer and nut a few turns then pull on the wheel and it slides the rear bearing and seal at once.

I pumped grease into my wheel barrings on my boat trailer and a little water came out while I was pumping grease in it the trailer might have 500 miles on it what should I do

if i have a grove in my spindle do i need to change out spindle its not real deep and about 3 inches in lenght

The inside surface of a trailer tire is approx. 1/2" towards the frame compared to its bottom inside edge on the ground. Haven't removed to inspect, but what could this mean?

Never use a cement block as a jacket stand. They can crumble and be gone in an instant.

Is the spindle bolted on or is it solid with axle. I need to replace spindle on one side only of pontoon trailer

Do you have to fill the void between the two bearings with some grease if not fill it ,do you put any?

how do you know when to stop pumping grease into the bearing buddy .What lets you know when there is enough grease in the hub.

If you screw up the spindles, the axle has to be replaced in most cases

I just bought a wood splitter and when I got home and looked at it from behind the left wheel is crooked (I think it's the camber that is off, the top of the tire leans in toward the trailer). I lifted the left side of the trailer on a small jack and spun the tire and it does not wobble but it is definitely leaning inward at the top. The problem is there are no lug nuts and I am unable to remove the dust cover (maybe it's just really hard to remove and takes more effort?). Maybe this is a single part/unit that should not be serviced and therefore you are expected to replace it entirely? Anyone that may have any advice on this would be much appreciated.

I figured it out. It takes more effort than I expected. I used channel lock pliers and grabbed on to the dust cap and aggressively wiggled it different directions till it came off vs. using a chisel/flathead screw driver.

the races in my hub are frozen inside.. any ideas on getting them out?

I do not recommend replacing the bearings if you are not going to replace the races. If you feel your bearings show wear your races need to be replaced also.
