The Ram Power Wagon is the Heavy Duty Off-roader of the truck community and it’s heritage dates back to the 1940’s and is well known for its big, tough, trail dominating capabilities. This 2020 model is the 5th Generation of the modern Power Wagons and the off-road refinements and modern interior amenities make this a highly sought-after adventure vehicle for those looking for a full size truck, long range expedition rig and weekend trail adventure truck. I’ve had my eye on the Power Wagons for a while now, and I’m looking forward to, pushing this truck to its limits on the dirt, adding a few modification to fit my needs and sitting back and enjoying the ride on some long-range overland adventures. I think this platform has a whole lot of potential. #powerwagon #ramtruck

I wish I got the powerwagon now looking back. Got a great covid deal in May for my 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. Put a 4 in BDS lift on it with 35 in KM3’s. Could’ve had all that capability plus more with the Wagon which warranty would cover everything. Beautiful rig and welcome to the RAM FAMILY!

@@ryanneyland2997 got me right in the feels with that one! I traded in my ‘19 Rebel after installing a 6” BDS with Fox coilovers, 10k winch, etc. for a 2500. Expensive lesson learned. Caught the travel trailer bug and now waiting on the 5th updates to roll over into the heavy duty rigs so I can upgrade the trailer. I do have to say that the Carli suspension and 37” Ridge Grapplers made the truck. Prior to those upgrades, there was no way I could live with the ride quality. I’m guessing the Power Wagon is a tad less brutal on the spine with those Bilsteins?

Buy and install a Thuren 1.5 inch leveling kit, swap to 37” KO2’s, and you will not have any issues with rubbing at full lock or articulation. That is the setup I run on my 2016 Power Wagon.

37' tires will fit with no trimming. Just need to drill small holes and use a large zip tie to pull the inner fender away from the tire. The issue that those who run the stock wheels will run into is that the tires will then rub on the control arms and the sway bar. Also Z Automotive makes a Tazer programmer that works with the Power Wagon up to year 2021. However running a tire that has a max PSI of less than what the truck recommends will require a trip to the dealer so the truck can recognize the change. But you will still be able to disable the TPMS system. In our search for sliders for our 2018 Power Wagon the best ones we found are made by White Knuckle Off Road. We currently have a simple roll up Truxedo tonneau cover on our Power Wagon. Has worked great to keep things out of the bed like water & leaves. And because we put 37's on our Power Wagon it hid the spare laying in the back. We ordered a decked system for ours that was just put in a few days ago. We can still use the tonneau cover for now but we can not carry the spare. We also ordered a ARE CX-HD topper for enclosed storage & basic overlanding.

Shift on the floor is my favorite feature on the truck. Some weeks hunting I use it 50+ times and it’s simply reliable. It engages immediately like it should. Buttons or knobs simple do not compare! I put 15k miles on mine in the first 1.5 months and have almost no complaints other than my previous ford had a flat back floor.

Made this same trade two weeks ago. Bought the Gladiator last year , did the lift and tire thing, made the mistake of swapping trucks with my son (who had Jeep fever really bad since he sold his LJ last year) to keep him from buying another one. After driving my old Ram 2500 for a couple weeks the swap backfired on me and I got PowerWagon fever and the rest is history.......now he is back in the Ram and I'm driving what you are today! Still have a TJ , so not done with Jeep , but nothing like big truck that will do it. Go ahead and get a set of Amp power steps , they are the bomb. Got them on both trucks.

I have a 2018 Power Wagon and I can’t say enough good things about it! There is literally no other truck that I would have ( maybe a TRX? ) but I daily drive it, I tow with it, we take it on LONG vacations, I’ve wheeled it. It’s gotten me through gnarly winter weather situations while on long trips that left 95% of travelers stuck in terrible conditions... Power Wagon don’t care! Mine is not as upgraded as yours here but for 2018 it was the highest trim package with all the goodies available. It is a wonderful place to be for even a 12 hour drive! It’s simply fantastic! The only mods, other than a few suspension mods, that I would recommend is #1 some sort of throttle booster. Makes a MASSIVE improvement in throttle response. #2 get some rear air bags in cradles. That will allow you to fully flex the suspension without tearing the bags. The suspension will sag some when loaded down. And they are a must if towing. You will obviously make that determination due to your needs. Other than that...it’s ready to rock. You can get suspension component upgrades but unless you’re heavy wheeling, stock is more than sufficient. One note I’d add..that while the stock bumpers seem sturdy on the surface... they are not. They will dent easily. I know. I replaced my rear bumper with an aftermarket unit that also improved rear departure greatly. I drilled holes to mount the rear sensors. You will fall in absolute LOVE with the mighty Power Wagon. I know that covering a bed is a personal choice but I do not put bed covers on my trucks because I lose functionality and bed utility. FWIW I have a Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack. It’s infinitely adjustable and can be removed and reinstalled in about 3 minutes if needed and I do remove it and store it in the garage when I’m not needing the rack. I have the crossbars that I mount Maxtrax, Rotopax, shovel and axe to. I put my RTT on top as well. It’s a great system. Thule has something similar.

Nice choice Brad! I felt this truck is so much quieter for long trips, very comfortable with its air-ride suspension, the bed is fully loaded and my average MPG is about 19-21 on the highway. I really didn't need an off-road monster, this truck suits my Overlanding need really well. I'm curious as to why it didn't seem that a Toyota 4runner or Tacoma were a consideration for you? It seems like the Power Wagon would be limited due to it's size in some cases where as the Toyotas are more capable vehicles with just as much comfort, amenities, and towing capabilities for your needs. Thoughts? Regardless, love the opportunity to see a new vehicle and build!

He had a gladiator which is better than the Tacoma so been there done that and he has a wrangler which is better than the 4Runner for just about everything. So he decided on something different and solid axles are always better for offroad unless you’re trying to go do what the trx and raptor are made for. It’s big but it sounds like he already has his rock crawler he’s looking for a big overlanding truck. If he wanted to keep a smaller truck he’d keep the gladiator and he already has an suv.

Seems like he wanted a full size, the Tacoma is an extremely small platform that a lot of people out grow very quickly. Unfortunately they will probably make it further then a Tacoma or a 4Runner, the power wagon has lockers front and rear compared to the Tacoma or 4Runner rear locker and crawl control. Coming from a guy with a Tacoma.

That short stifter for the transfer case could have future results!! I have done in the past on an old Chevrolet 78 1/2 ton 4x4 when I replaced the automatics to a 4spd. My cousin worked at a machine shop and cut off the threaded end of the shirter and rethreaded so the chrome peices I had would screw on creating another floor shifter up to the seat. I could grab that shifter without leaning down and taking my eyes off the road if I had to do something in a hurry. Truck was once blown off the freeway by a side wind and instead of it going in sideways I drove it in and grabbing that shifter helped because the ditch was 2'-3' of snow. I also had the choice of knobs back then at the truck stops...LOL Truck looked cool with 2 sticks, kind of like the Ranger overdrive but in reverse. Plenty of cool knobs out there to replace that factory one, some even come with an extention to raise it up a bit.

You made a great choice and the Power Wagon is an INCREDIBLE value for what you get. For $55k msrp, plus probably typical $3-5k discounts on Ram 2500 trucks @$52k lets say. Warn winch is $2k, lockers $4k, and saving another $2k for needing a bumper, saving needing a lift kit $1500 makes it a good bargain because you'd need to spend that when you get anything else that isn't a Rubicon. For its size, it flexes an insane amount and the RTI score proves it. You'd end up spending $50k+ easily along with the mods on any other platform any it doesn't come with a warranty.

@@Terruhcutta That's great Man...I was being fasciitis. I owned a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins with all the options...After less than 5-years it was one thing after another. The driver's side plastic bezel holding the switches to the power windows needed to be replaced 4-times by the time I sold it after over 10-years and 150K miles. Same with the parking break lever although that only snapped off twice. All tickie-tack stuff that only the stealership would have on hand as a replacement at a cost. The power steering went out at just over 30K and was replaced under warranty till it went out again at 60K...Lucas leak stop took care of that repetitive problem but then I had to replace the wheel bearings at 70K. Rear power windows stopped working right around 50K. Power Passenger side seat failed just under 100K. Stereo needed to be replaced twice. Transmission started going out just over 100K. Paint began to turn yellow after about 7-8 years of living in the desert. Sunroof wasn't working by the time I off loaded it. Alternator needed to be replaced just as I traded-in the truck... Point being - Don't believe the hype. These trucks are NOT what they advertise and the days of commercials showing owners at 500K and 1 Million miles are over. Pay to play and continue to do so with Dodge/Ram/Fiat/Chrysler...Whatever they identify as this week.

i drive these for work my old 2011 had 199,309 before sent to auction it went through 2 transmissions and needed another. the AC didn't work, heat didn't work anymore, the topical issues with the fuse box replacement problems. this truck got about 8 MPG. now the 2019 i have around 2k off road only and have had a few issues with the transmission not engaging. now for the positive of the vehicle. I didn't pay for it or pay for the gas. it does get better mileage i am running about 15.6 mpg. I work in in the back country of the Oregon coast so the miles on this truck are very hard miles. the 2011 was a goat, no lockers it would really take me where i wanted to go but was unreliable leaving waiting for a tow truck several times. the 2019 with the 6.4L has much better get up and go but I won't be comfortable with it until it takes me up Nehalem and Goat Mountain. Nehalem. is basically a hiking trail that i have to drive up in 4 LOW and is a crazy drive, Goat is even more crazy. I am sure that it won't be long before this transmission leaves me waiting on a wrecker to get me home.
