They need a proper train simulator to compete with. When they're the only comp out there, they get away with pulling this stuff off. I wish Microsoft never pulled the plug on MSTS2...

I wish they would add the old Amtrak route back from TSW1, I spent 30$ on the base route and 20$ on the Switcher and the Cab car DLC, and to add to you’re route extension point they can just merge it in with the LIRR route

Some pointed out TSW3 was probably an attempt to get around the Unreal contract as TSW2 had made to much money DTG was going to have to pay more for TSW2.

Dumbing down of franchise games seems to be the de rigueur these days. I remember DTG pushing how they were Train Sim fans way back and frankly it looks to be a £ grab now.

Since they are saying the future of TSW. I better see new trains in this game. If they just keep using recycled trains this could be my last one. Am going buy just to keep up with the franchise even though I kind of don't want too since I already own these trains except the ICE 1.

Here are my reasons as to why I don't want to buy Train Sim World 3. For 1, the Dynamic Changing weather was something we were sold back in Train Sim World 1. It never happened, never happened in 2, so why should I buy it in 3 for a feature promised in 1 and not delivered until 3. 2. I have not liked main line running, for a while now. It gets too boring and there is not too much of a feeling of the tonnage that I am pulling behind me other than the throttle notch on the console. 3. Coming from two, their switching activity's just don't feel exciting. Instead of being giving a switch list and being told to pick these up and drop these off, I have to follow every instruction even if I could short cut it to make it take less time. This makes it feel so artificial and instead of treating it as a puzzle game its treated as follow the steps and you will be done. This is why I have more fun in TSC with switching and on a model railroad than in this game. I really wanted TSW1, I gave 2 a try but sorry 3 strikes and you are out. If they finally deliver multiplayer I might come back but that promise sounds hollow. The big wait was for steam, and just after getting it they dump this. I am sorry I have bought way more routes in TS Classic than I can run cause they are good routes but I am not buying the same game a third time for more promises and no knowing what's coming.

I personally think that TSW3 still needs the following features: 1 - A real tool to create scenarios, where you can use all tracks and say what happens when an AI train has reached point XY. 2 - The creation of their own proper timetables, which can also provide, for example, over which tracks you drive, ... + that you can provide in TSW own created timetables for route / DLC XY also in the creators club for download. 3 (secondary in my opinion) - The creation and compilation of own train formations.

A novelty route that would be good is something like the Manchester Metro Tram network.

Routes that could be good: Netherlands: Dutch Mainline Den Haag - Amsterdam, with the Zandvoort branch and the route via Haarlem and Schiphol, with the Sprinter and the Intercity Japan: Tokyo - Osaka with the Shinkansen and slower commuter trains Netherlands: Dutch Trams HTM with all of the lines, like a tram route could be great (and actually new!) Britian: the entire Bluebell Railway, like a heritage line could be good (I know WSR exists but like that has diesel, the Bluebell Railway has steam engines) A Random fictional route, like an actual creative route! These routes will probably never be added though… but at least we got some suggestions, plus, I might buy TSW3 if I the got 5 free routes instead of 3(if they are creative anyway)

The series has had issues way back to their first release of the game (Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul), and since then they've been making promise-after-promise of fixing the broke system they have been designing the game around for many years now. In fact, part of their rebranding of Train Sim World 2 was the promise to restructure and organize their company, because they had issues with so many bugs being released to the public with the base games and DLC. The game is designed and programmed rather poorly, and it continues to be built upon that same foundation for quick money grabs, because it hasn't been fixed after 2 main games and many major updates. You have a terrible company that chooses profit over quality, and a loyal fan base who denies any kind of issues coming out of the company.

Excellent video, you went into detail very well here one thing you might also want to look into is the main menu screen as its completely ripped off from MFS 2020

I do agree with a lot you have said and yes this game is over priced, especially for existing TSW2 users, seems like a cash and grab from Dovetail. One thing that is bugging me a lot is, they extended the route on SEHS to Ashford, great! why did they not connect Ashford to Faversham and give the player a full Class 395 train timetable rather than end at Ashford and Faversham. They missed a trick here to get people more interested, instead extending also to Dartford? i just don't see the point in that unless they went through to London Charring Cross but like Dovetail do, they just make a part of the route and leave it there.

I think DCS is a good comparison game. It’s a simulator with around the same level of terrain detailing but with larger maps and the base game is free to play. Aircrafts are sold as DLCs at around 50-70€ with much more detailed features than TSW trains. When DCS updated their popular A-10 aircraft they sold the plane for 74€ but anyone owning the previous version could buy it for >15€. All of this is done on Steam so there’s no technical reason for DTG to not offer a heavy discount to previous owners. The DCS community is thriving. DTG have much to learn from it.

It’s pretty bad as well, that they’re making you actually re pay for essentially the same game. After the recent dovetail stream, it also appears the graphics aren’t even as upgraded as we all think, which is another negative. It’s also pretty scummy that they’re not updating the TSW2 routes, forcing you to upgrade. I don’t think I really wish to purchase TSW3, at least until there’s something to draw me in.

The long routes are great. However: DTG, the only devs who can't figure out how to create a save game, now took the feature out completely. Therefore: I have not completed a single route with the freight trains because of this. Overall I'm enjoying TSW 3, the dynamic weather is nice. I do wish there was some competition out there for them though. And still: No ability to create my own loadout in the scenario creator. Why can't I choose my engine, put my own cars behind it to pull? Why can't I add a fully custom train?

In DTG's defence, last I heard Eurostar will not grant them a license to use their name or rolling stock and have complicated Transsec (security) restrictions about who can be in their cabs and on their property. I believe the new Southern operator (GTR) are holding back on license also, which is why there is no Siemens units on the Dartford line or the Brighton line. If a train operating company won't grant a license then not a lot DTG can do. Train operating companies may also not be interested in granting access for route research and things like rolling stock sound and detail, especially with the COVID pandemic and now the railway in industrial dispute. It's not as simple as "let's make this".

You do have to buy a version of TSW3 to get the upgraded versions of southeastern HS or spirit of steam that you already purchased for TSW2. Aside from that you get the upgrades. You don’t need the deluxe version to get the upgraded routes you already own and they will show as owned if you try to purchase them again individually. So if you have both spirit of steam and southeastern the deluxe version is probably a no go for you.

They need to add long distance Amtrak Superliner routes, instead of foreign passengers trains. Also more realistic sounding air horn and the air compressor sound.

The argument of "but this route is so long! They have to have 30+km of modelling!" isn't quite accurate... because a lot of the TSW map assets are just brush-placed. It isn't like 30+km of bespoke assets. It's a few assets that are copy-pasted and placed roughly well enough that it looks good when you're speeding by.

This game needs a consist builder and custom start points; this is a Train Sim World 2 clone and shows the laziness Dovetail Games, we truly need a new MSTS and not this crap!

I was adamant that I wouldn't buy it after the debacle of the original North East Corridor on the original Train Sim World. I managed to find a cheap after market key, for £14.99 for the standard edition so I got the update with 3 new routes. Dovetail are rip off merchants though, just look at what they've done with their fishing games. Abandoning games and moving on to the next iteration, which is a pity as the fishing games are decent, albeit buggy. TSW3 seems to run nicely, with very few gamebreaking stutters but there are still loads of bugs prevalent, even in the loco tutorials......which is unforgivable to be fair. So my advice for anyone thinking of buying this, is to try a key seller first! Liked and subscribed :)

I recently purchased TSW2 (less than a month ago), and when I found out they were releasing an entirely new game I was understandably kinda pissed, since they could have easily just updated the current game to that standard at little to no cost. Which is why I would like to view the game as just a route package with some added updates. When you think of it that way, three routes for $50 isn't a bad deal considering each route in TSW2 costs $30.

The thing I hate most about this game is its claim of unbridled realism while completely disregarding train handling. Let's disregard the fact that every part of the trains feel like a block of cheese, from the brakes to the couplers. As an engineer, my freight train should not be flashing the wheel slip light if I'm going 5 MPH. Locomotives, namely those on the BNSF, UP, and CSX routes, don't use the wheel slip light for anything less than a major slip. The control system automatically takes care of slips and sanding without any intervention from me. In Run8v3, once you get to notch 8, you're set.

3rd party and individual content creation is a must if this game wants to survive.

Couldn’t have put it better myself. Dtg are looking for nothing but money these days and if that means losing their current player base and targeting children then dtg will make that sacrifice. Very little of what comes with tsw3 could not be done with tsw2. It’s all for money. To say I’ve been a tad disappointed with some of the recent additions to tsw2 even would be an understatement. How many more electrostar routes can you make?? Unless tsw3 comes out to be incredible I will not be purchasing…

Well this is one game I won't be buying until it's on sale for around £10. I can't even get half the trains on TSW2 to start so damned if I'm going to pay £40 for the same experience! The only things that would make me pay full price would be a quick start mode and at least one Japanese route!

soon as i watched a couple of armstrong powerhouse videos i realised how bad dovetail were doing in terms of sound, plus the fact they refuse to add sound packs from 3rd parties is another sign they have no interest in making already released content any better. Thankfully i gave Microsoft flight simulator a try, the quality is much better, and they even have a few free stuff from time to time.

It is an actual joke that DTG has not yet included a proper Japanese route into TSW. Rail Transportation is king here, so you would think at least one route by now, smh

I understand that you guys from UK are a wee bit salty about it all, as DTG doesn't really give you an incentive to purchase it as you'd already likely own SEH and SoS. From a german perspective it isn't quite as dire fortunately. Given that german route usually costs around 30EUR, the German starter pack for which DTG chargers 36 EUR, de facto transates into a 6 EUR price tag for the TSW3 upgrade, which isn't too unreasonable. A lot of german player as been asking for a long high speed route for a long time, as Koeln -Aachen is just too short (and flat really too). I do have to admit, I'd prefer DTG not changing the Game Version evey couples years. Would be much better if they could achieve all those improvements on a single Game version.

Is the routes and DLC from the second game going to transfer over to this game if you buy it or is this new version a stand alone not compatible with last one.

I was kind of hoping that they would put the entire NEC in the game or at least put each half in there. NYC to Boston and NYC to Washington. The rush hour update only does a small section. Also they put Northeast Regional in there with the ACS-64, but no Acela Express. This seems to be a common issue. Certain requested trains not added and only certain sections of routes added instead large sections or whole routes. From the live streams I’ve watched it sounds like the only reason they don’t do it is because it takes more time (money). It just doesn’t feel like an honest effort from the company to produce a real train SIMULATOR. It just seems like a game that’s put out there to make money. Graphics are nice, though sounds don’t seem to interact with the environment at all other than a doppler effect. Fundamentals need to looked at more closely. One thing I wish they would do, is add more railroad personnel to interact with. Like, why am I opening and closing doors on an intercity train? That’s the conductor’s job. At least Microsoft Train Simulator had a voiced conductor that said, “Okay to proceed.” or a whistle would be blown. _Surely a game that comes out 20 years after MSTS could at least do that._ I really wish Microsoft would get back in this space and make a train sim using their Flight Simulator platform.

Agreed with the cashgrab... just like FarmingSim... just a couple of small updates and hey presto, here's a new version for users to buy. (and even grabbing Community items and incorporating it like they invented it themselves, like the forestry equipment back in FS2015.... good thing DTG hasn't opened up the game to modders yet.. hahaha, wait for it...)

I'd rather play with "Train Simulator". Got some little time in on TS3 via GamePass. I will not buy because the boring routes with little to do in them and the cost $25+ for add on routes that will be boring as well. Dovetail should have given some kind of discout to the TS2 owners. Train Simulator got out of the business because of too little profit margin. Like EASports stopped porting hockey to PC for many years. They didn't change the game that often either. LOL

Unfortunately we live in a world where maximizing shareholder/investor profit is considered the right and proper way to run a company and business. Making a good profit is not enough, it must be _maximized_. So when a company like DTG hires developers and designers to create a product like TSW, their goal is to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible.This means the quality of the game will never be as good as it could be and the development and design team's talents are restrained and underutilized... because profit always comes first. The result is an uneven, bug riddled game that the considers 'good enough' accompanied by lots of marketing and PR to drive sales and mostly empty promises to fix bugs and implement requested features to keep paying customers hooked and buying DLCs and updates. DTG is targeting TSW3 to twitchy action oriented gamers rather than investing time and effort and, yes, a bit of cash, to create a truly rich and immersive rail simulator because they think this is the best way to make the most profit. If the new TSW sacrifices simulator features for gimmicky 'game-like' features to rack up points and win trophies I am not sure how well it will sell to a crowd that wants action and excitement. Simulators aren't even games but they are marketed as such because fast money is the goal, not a premium product with a loyal base if paying customers. Running a railway and operating trains is not like racing cars on a track, shooting zombies or hunting for treasure and if DTG pretends it TSW will be ruined. Sadly, many people buy new versions and updates of games no matter how overpriced and badly designed they are and as long as this happens DTG and other games companies will have no incentive to improve their product. If you let yourself get caught up in the hype and PR onslaught that is accompanying TSW3's release and buy the game anyway even though you're not happy with the company's business practices or think the game is ridiculously overpriced and a subpar product, the game will never improve. DTG cares about money, not whether the customer is satisfied. If a bunch of unsatisfied customers keep buying their game despite its flaws and DTG's dubious practices it is still money in the bank and they have no incentive to change. (Baiting previous customers with new and "improved" versions every few years is part of a business strategy of endlessly stringing customers along and taking their money while providing very little value in return.) Imagine a world where game developers and designers could take the time to design really rich and immersive worlds without being constantly pressured to hurry up and cut corners so the company can quickly push out 'good enough' products (and of course pay the people who make the games less) just so the company's investors can make the absolute most money possible. Maybe when more people realize that we are getting seriously shafted (and not just in games) to satisfy the dictates of a broken system this will change.

The UK route loco literally does not work no matter which route I try it on and 30-50$ for 2-3 routes and a couple of the same locomotives just different schemes is a rip off, completed every base game scenario for 2&3 excepts 3’s UK svenaio because it literally refused to work within 3-4 hours and was like really this is if? There’s just nothing to go back to and play.

The sehs upgrade is so disappointing. If they wanted to extend a route they might as well have extended it from gravesend to victoria via dartford and add the most important and used train on the BML which is the 700 to replace the southern trains that in fact do not go to victoria from brighton. It’s only the 387 GX trains from victoria to brighton.

I can't help wondering if this is going to put too much strain on my PS4 Pro, and it doesn't run brilliantly on that, despite putting in an SSD. The draw distance issue is a real problem. If I buy TSW3 it's going to be when it's dirt cheap in a sale. Just before the release of TSW4, I expect.

You should look into MaSzyna. A polish train simulator that's completely free and unironically ten times better than any TSW or TS out there.

Hi, I have never played a TSW game before and I am unsure what is considered "overpriced" for this kind of game I was contimplating purchasing the Us freight bundle for $70 AUD and later the horseshoe corner $40 AUD from TSW 2. Anyway my main question is should I or is it overpriced?

The PS5 trophy issue meant they really had to launch another game otherwise they would not be able to add many more trophies to the game

I think many of these criticisms could be avoided or at the very least minimized if there was some real competition for more train simulators to incentivize dovetail to stop this rerelease of the same product with just minor fixes like Sports games such as Madden have done for years. One particular suggestion could be oh I don't know maybe Microsoft Train Simulator like I have been suggesting for years ever since Microsoft Plane Simulator came out. But I guess no developer wants to listen to little old me. 🙄😒 And sorry for that little tangent but stuff like that gets me irritated, we did not need yet another rerelease of this game if it's just gonna do the bare minimum and charge more money for it. What should have happened is some real competition to step up dovetails game and really nip them in the bud to try harder, but I guess that's not how gaming companies work, I don't know, all I know is that I have been keeping my eye on another rail simulator game called Train Life A railway simulator, nothing like the hardcore simulator experience, but for far less money, you get a game that has more passionate devs who will try everything in their power to make sure the game can be the best it can be. And I have seen gameplay and it runs like silk in comparison to those iffy videos of train sim world's performance. I think they are doing starter packs so if u don't have the new route u can just buy that and u get upgraded for free if u own the others I think

DTG are lazy and greedy, what they can't fix they abandon and sell you another game, they did exactly the same with their fishing games, fish that grew legs and climbed trees. They tried and couldn't fix it so they brought another one out. And once again more bugs so once again they sold us another game AND we had to buy the DLC again. In TSW 3 There is no Save Game feature and it may never be implemented as it's too difficult to put in the game, all they say is use the Game Resume feature on XBox. And once again my achievements are not unlocking, some are others aren't.

Why don't they add Spanish routes? Renfe has A TON of rolling stock and Spain is has the largest high speed network in europe and a massive commuter network in the Madrid area. WTF Dovetail

I understand all your Points, except for the Advertising for Kids. I do not understand what you think makes this more appealing to kids, Every semi-modern release from DTG has very similar Marketing, and, atleast for me, back then, the Ads would have been wayy to "epic" for me. Sure, it's not as much as TS 2016 anymore, but it is a lot better then every TS Classic Version after and personally, also TSW 2020 and TSW2 Also, i would love such a Discount System, but i think that is impossible, because Discounts are always the same for everyone. Since there is nothing that is exactly the same as in TSW2, Steam or others couldn't recognise it as already owned, like they do if you buy a Bundle and already own stuff from the Bundle, hence they remove its price, so you cannot have such a System, its either Discount for everyone the same or none
