Train Simulator : Saluda Grade

Hey if you ever feel like making an F59PHi video, use the horn for the Dash 9. It sounds like the K5LA on an F59.

You should watch the saluda training film that's on here to get a better idea what's involved in train handeling on the grade!!!

I should have. I watched it the other day. 8mph all the way down. Sometimes trains need to be cut into sections to traverse the grade.

Thanks for all the help from commenters. For some reason, the "BNSF" on my SD70ACE isn't loading. It's just a brighter orange patch. How should I fix this?

TrainSimUSA cool. Yeah, I figured that TS would, but I grew up south of Saluda on this line. I remember the late Southern, early NS days of Saluda and I'd have to have the radio car to do it right.

Yea especially if you want to recreate the belmont coal train. I kinda messed up on the downhill part, I had no idea it was restricted to 10mph downgrade. Saluda has always captured my attention because of N&W 611.

NS never actually used SD70’s to pull coal drags across Saluda, did they? I mean, seems like it would have been a less daunting task if they did.

Likely not Saluda has been closed for years although I did find a picture of a NS Dash 9 going downhill on it.

The Saluda Grade closed in the early 2000s so it very much possible

Yes, we did run wide bodies on the W-line. There’s pictures on the internet, and I’ve heard stories from old heads that actually ran the line before it was taken out of service

They used SD70’s and 60’s many times, even found a photo of a GP60 at the crest running lite, I also saw a photo of a SP dash 9 on a train that had traversed Saluda
