2 Close Buildings Next To The Railroad Main Line Get Split By 3 Locomotives Pulling A Heavy Grain Train! Watch The Train Knock Down The Signal! Great video of that and then 3 locomotives pull a double stack intermodal train around the Wye that leads to the east railroad diamonds. We see a Union Pacific led CSX train cross the diamonds in the outro right after the slide show. Muncie, Indiana has CSX and Norfolk Southern lines that cross in two spots. I have videos of trains crossing the diamonds at both locations. This video was filmed on September 24, 2021. Gambit1960 and I spent the day filming trains here.

There is a set speed that trains that have to navigate tight corridors such as in between buildings can do. For this particular instance; it looks like the train can move no faster than 20-30 mph.

I was in Muncie about 60 or 61 years ago this summer. One of my earliest memories, though it's just snippets. My Mom was a War Bride from England. Her youngest sister had married an American in the U.S.A.F., sometime in the late 50's, and they settled in Texas, originally, then moved to Muncie. It was the only family my mother could have contact with. In them thar days, the interstate system was still being built, it wasn't the network we enjoy today. Boy, knowing the kinds of cars my Dad owned later, I imagine the one we went to Muncie and back to London Ontario in was sketchy, all or mostly done on secondary highways. One memory snippet of Muncie, I was either 3 or 4.... my older cousin took me outside to play and we must have been near a railway track. I remember him holding my hand, and telling me not to be afraid, and this huge black locomotive rumbled by, and a long train. I don't think it had any effect on me. *cough*

First train, those three locos needed a wash badly, I'm glad they were not bookin by so close to you! Second train locos need bath, too, and whoa, didn't expect it to turn, what a surprise, thought it was coming straight by us, man it was a long load. ❤ dpu ❤ what a great view!!

That last train was pretty much the J.B. Hunt express. About half the cars were carrying JB containers.

As a kid, my grandfather "Peep" worked as dispatcher in a shack between Vine and Pershing off Wysor, and we got to ride in the caboose on the weekends with him to Peru. It was amazing!

On 1:47: Train coming out of side-scene. It is like a real scifi moment. Till 2:23. Really something. Clanking of wheels. Rumbling of metal on metal. Great! And the end at 6:22 last car very near that roof. I know it is the perspective but still. Thanks JawTooth. At 15:16 is a nice shot as well.

For the first train by the building, it would be interesting to see the train come the other direction and filming it on the other side as it's approaching the crossing see how tight it is against the building.

I am from Muncie and prior to the 90’s there were so many more tracks. You could not go anywhere without being stopped by a train many have been removed. There was a triangle shape building at the corner of Wysor and Walnut street where tracks use to be. The train went so close to the building which was a restaurant. Across the street was the coal fired power plant and the train delivered coal. It was so cool.

I'm from Muncie also, have seen pictures of the railroads in town from the 20's-now, and laugh when everyone complains about the trains. They should have been here 80-90 years ago when the whole city was covered in rails.

That was pretty exciting too. Nice weather, even if you had to go back to last September to get it. September 24, 2022 is still a few months away as I read and interpret your description section. Although in all honesty, Gambit1960 didn't seem to age a year. Probably good jeans... they stayed pretty clean too. I could be mistaken. It happened once. Thought I was wrong. Turned out later, I was right. Might just have been a type-oh. (error tipográfico... typo). See? It happened again. The letter 'h' is silent in Spanish. Gracias por tu video. RT sends... Great video JT and I have to say that was neat to see something so big go between a couple buildings. That was definitely a surprise and you're known for that periodically! If you're ever in PA go to MACUNGIE or WYOMISSING JUNCTION to get some great footage! MACUNGIE gets roughly 25-35 trains daily and WJ gets 30-40 daily! Thanks again for sharing your videos JT!

There used to be two tracks that went between the buildings. Also, the building behind you had a track that used to go through where the building curves. That track would come out where CSX is and lead to the Yard where the Big Four Freight House is.

Progressive Rail has a Locomotive MFG. plant in Muncie. On South Cowan road very cool plant. They make export Locos there as well.

NIce up-close shots on the grain train. The second train is interesting as it was long enough to warrant a DPU. I am beginning to think NS likes to cut corners and not use DPU's maybe to save money? The risk of a broken knuckle doesn't concern them too much. Anyway - very cool location there in Muncie :)

It doesn't make much difference it's optional you could use dpu's or put all the power up front you can still break knuckles even with em' from metal fatigue.

Brian Hickey if you want to see the results of a broken coupler on a tank car on a Norfolk Southern train, go to Wide World of Trains KZfaq channel. WIthin the last month there was a broken coupler on a tank car in front of an auto rack. The wheel set closest to the breack was mangled and ended up sitting about half way under the auto rack. The rear wheel set on the auto rack stayed on the track so the auto rack stayed upright. Wide World of Trains has two videos on this over a ten hour period that the Norfolk Southern mainline btween Erie, Pennsylvania and Buffalo, New York was closed. The first video shows the first part of the train to the broken coupler stopped about 600 feet east of the auto rack and the auto rack. The second video shows a Huellet Company crew working on repairing the mangled wheel set and trying to put the repaired wheel set in place on the auto rack. The train was able to comtinue to Buffalo, New York after dark. Wide World of Trains was not able to video that move. The two videos are at least 20 minutes long and the accident scense are part of each video. If I remember correctly most of the second video deals with the work on the auto rack and the road crossings that were blocked in Dunkirk, New York as a result of the accident.

@@thomasmackowiak Tom, that was a hell of an event for that crew and its assignment but again the NS gets away with one and I’ve seen a few “whole drawbar separations” in my career and clearly if that drawbar separation would had been the initial cause of the trains emergency application the auto rack from the force of the train behind it would have propelled out onto that highway followed by 30-40 others in its normal zig-zag fashion….temporary shut down and a few shop cars, lucky day, ms~~~

These are some interesting spots to watch trains. They sure thread the needle with the track going through those two buildings so closely. You must have shot this video last summer, too many leaves on the trees. Norfie sure has quite a purr motor!

Wow - that double stack train suddenly switching to that other track reminded me of trains going east on the Lehigh Line ( Norfolk Southern ) switching to the Port Richmond Secondary at Bound Brook, New Jersey. That is a busy railroad watching location right at the New Jersey Transit Raritan Valley line station - great photo location also.
