I have an ICRR Equipment list from 1957 that has some of these steam locomotives in it. A little piece of history lost to the scrapyards

That brown and orange I.C. train is impressively long, requiring 3 power units, but I wouldn't want to be in the last car as it pulls into a station, such a long walk to the station head.

My grandfather, Kenneth Sparks ran the yard in Central City. Worked there fifty years. He's shown in the video at 32:34, fedora, wiping his hands, always. I learned to drive steam engines and diesels from him. It was our treat, going out to the yard and running one of the "back up engines". Learned to drive his Chevy Nova in that coal covered yard. Great footage. Great memories Rick Sparks

+Luckystrike In my utopia, 4-8-2 #2613 (at 28:32) would have lived. It was SUPPOSED to go to the Kentucky RR museum (home of L&N 152) but it didn't work out. Which really sucks.

The scenes beginning at 52:11 in front of the Lakeside Press are fantastic. This whole area is now gloomily covered by McCormick Place #2 and #3. The IC served the gothic press building with several tracks and a dedicated switcher WEST of the suburban tracks and before and after the mainline flyover. This lasted until the demise of the press once Sears stopped printing catalogues in the very early 1990s.

The Panama Limited was far and away the best passenger train in the USA in the 1960s. After it lost its all-Pullman status the service began to deteriorate. The meals on this train was superb.
