A Gloomy Morning of West Coast services at Berkhamsted, heading around the South of England, United Kingdom. Trains include:

Train Numbers - e.g. 43032 or 800110 - These are train numbers which are specific to that train. No trains can be numbered the same. Locos are 5 digit numbers where the first two numbers are the class of train e.g. 67010 would be a class 67. Yo yo yo Berkhamsted I love that station alot because its one of the stations on the West Coast Mainline where the Pendolinos and Super Voyagers can tilt

Nice variety of trains like the Pullman, to LEs, to your local fast and stopping 350, the commuter 377 and also to tilting trains

Yep! You always get a good variety on the south of the west coast. The Southern services will terminate at Watford Junction from May so this is likely the last time you will see them north of there.

@@StarlifeStudios Agree. I love travelling on the Electrostars from Wembley to Milton rather than some Desiros. They're more confortable (even in Standard).

My Cousin lives there. Used to use that station so much, Went to Euston and back a lot when going for Day Trips to London and whatever else my Family And I used to do because my Granny lived not far from there either, so we'd stay at hers when visiting the area from Wales. LOVE LOVE LOVE BERKHAMSTED!!!!

To look at, you would think those Class 350's to be only 75MPH runners tops on most other suburban/country lines, but they don't half shift at their top line speed of 110MPH on the WCML!

I lived in Berko during the 1930's and as a train enthusiast it's almost a disappointment to see what trains look like now! But the station still looks very much the same! I fear those red brick apartment buildings may block to view of the Castle on the way through. Back then two school friends of mine and I were building a massive Gauge 0 rail system in the attic of one of their houses -- hand build all the track sticking down wooden sleepers (ties) and 4 pins to hold each chair (British used bullhead rail unlike the American flat bottom) .... and a center rail since 2 rail electric had not yet come in. We didn't build the points (switches) but Basset Lowke and Bond's of Euston Road were a much too tempting source. We bought engines but built the coaches and goods wagons. Back then the return fare to Boxmoor, the next station towards London for school children was 1 penny and from time to time we would buy tickets, proudly show them to the ticket inspector and go up the stairs to the slow up platform. The trick was not to get off the train at Boxmoor but stay on it to Watford Junction since there was no ticket inspection onboard the local trains. If we were careful we avoided an inspection on the platform, or if caught explained that we did not know the train we caught in Berkhamsted went non-stop to Watford Junction! Not that I'm suggesting anything!

Berkhamsted railway station is in the town of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England. It is located just beside Berkhamsted Castle, overlooking the Grand Junction Canal. The station is 28 miles northwest of London Euston on the West Coast Main Line. London Northwestern Railway operates services to London, Northampton and many other destinations. There are 4 platforms of 12-car length on both the fast and slow lines. The platforms are arranged around a central island and two side platforms. The station is relatively unusual on the route in that most of the original buildings have been retained.

I believe that this was due to the trains being timed on to the slow lines at Willesden due to engineering works but they actually used the fasts which allowed them to run early. Thanks Reuben, I’m happy you enjoyed 😃👍🏻

Clapham is one I’ve considered re-doing for manyyy years. I was hoping to go in 2020 when the 701s *should* have been in service but that clearly didn’t and hasn’t happened. Unfortunately, we are now facing withdrawals of stock which shouldn’t have occurred at this stage (456, 455s) so to avoid loosing too much variety, at the time of writing this, it will actually be the next one I film. Hope this helps you to understand my position.

Great video...lovely to see the Blue Pullman HST 👀😎👍🏽 Before the days of the tilting Pendolino and Voyager, the line speed through there was 95mph tops because of the sharp reverse curves there 😊👍🏽 I think its 110mph now with tilt?

Thanks EJC! Your mind has served you well! Sectional Appendix shows it as 100MPH, tilt 115MPH, so I think you can count that as a win in your book! 👍🏻😃

@@StarlifeStudios ha...not too far out eh? 🤣😎👍🏽 Those initial speeds would have been 1980’s speeds as before the introduction of Brecknell Willis pantographs (Initially on 86244 then class 87’s, then on the rest of the AC electric locomotive fleets) the maximum passenger speed using an AC Electric loco was 100mph on the WCML. With the new Brecknell Willis pantographs, it enabled some premium WCML expresses to be upgraded to 110mph in 1983/1984. 125mph running started too in the 1980’s on that line when the APT was being tested with its tilt functionality, but the APT was “sidelined” by the end of 1984 and full 125mph running returned with the Pendolino 😎🇬🇧👍🏽🎉🎉

I have to be honest, Avanti really did a poor job with their 220 & 221 voyager mainly with it's livery like the roof is still the Red and the only changes they did was paint a slight portion of the cab in its dark navy blue, like I know this was 2 years ago but still.
