Churchill's concerns remind me of watching out for a misguided child and teen. It's as if he is constantly trying to look out for him as if he was his brother or even son.

I’m probably just projecting here, but I’ve always taken Wallis’s letter to Queen Mary at face value. The awareness that I was widely regarded as an awful person would have really gotten me down after a while, and I’d have written the letter hoping to show the most influential member of the royal family that there was a side of me that was decent and sincere. I wouldn’t have expected anything in response, so Queen Mary saying “I send a kind message to your wife” would have put me clear over the moon. (I do _not_ think, though, that Queen Mary would have gifted Wallis a brooch that had belonged to Charles I, though! Good grief. Wouldn’t such a piece have been part of the Crown Jewels? 😵💫.
@baz70557 ай бұрын
Wow I've never imagined Wallis holding, comforting and feeding babies on a regular basis. All of us are more than we show on the surface. I've read that Sir Winston Churchill admired King George V1 greatly as he grew into his role as king, serving boldly during the war, and worked to overcome his speech impediment. They became friends. Then at his death he tutored and helped HMQE11 as she became a young queen. I think he loved them in a way and tried to reign in David so he would do less harm to the monarch and UK and the commonwealth. Kind of like a parent might reign in a wayward child so they leave less harm in their wake. Get well soon

I don’t know what to make of David driving into the poor neighborhoods with his car that he just drove all over the fairways, but entitled does come to mind. I also was reminded that we need to be careful judging the actions of others in another time. Boys have always loved gun play, and children in the fifties when I was a kid, loved coins, collecting, getting gifted, spending. I wonder if David saw them playing, organized them into a troupe and gave them coins purely as fun and enrichment.

So happy you are feeling better! And happy for another chapter of this book which I find quite interesting. I know things were different then as to separation of classes, how to treat people deemed to be ‘less’. Character or lack of character sines through during perilous times. Edward and Wallis seem to know what they should do but their follow through is lacking. At their core they are selfish, self indulgent people who cannot get past their own petty wants and desires. He is quite childish. So many similarities between them and Harry and Meghan!

Winston Churchill's mother Janney, was mistress of King Edward VII (when he was prince of wales), Herbert von Bismarck(son of Otto von Bismarck), king Milan I of Serbia, Karl, 8th Prince Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau and Evelyn Edward Thomas Boscawen, 7th Viscount Falmouth and many more. Due to affairs timings there were rumours that Winston Churchill is illegitimate son of king Edward VII and his brother John is illegitimate son of Evelyn Edward Thomas Boscawen, 7th Viscount Falmouth but she dismissed it by saying her son are spiting image of her husband Lord Randolph Henry Spencer-Churchill. Regardless Winston has been always close to royal family and was monarchist and would 100% let any royal get away with murders or any other crimes.

Possibly Churchill cared about David because he witnessed, first hand the severely dysfunctional environment David was exposed to. David’s Father, George V was an evil, insane, tyrant who abused his children from a very young age and Churchill saw King George for what he truly was. David also had a nut job of a nanny who abused him and Davids own Mother was cold and imo incredibly selfish, greedy beyond words and just flat out weird. It seems to me Churchill had a heart and took David’s upbringing into consideration when making decisions concerning the former King. Possibly because Churchills family life was also dysfunctional.
