I am a 76 years “cradle Catholic” and was scandalize by the Feb. 15, 2024 funeral Mass/liturgy funeral at St Patrick’s Cathedral. I live in New York State and my parish, St Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Kingston, NY is part of the Archdiocese of New York. Cardinal Timothy Dolan chuckled in an interview after the fiasco “we’re not the FBI” when asked how this could have been scheduled in the Cathedral. He is often more like a NY politician than priest 🙏🏻🕊📿🕊🙏🏻

Should we be surprised at what happened in St Patricks church? My local church is like a hall on Sunday mornings. Our priest comes in shouting and joking with the choir while some of us are trying to prepare for Holy Mass. Concerts, dancing in the sanctuary, cancelling Adoration a few years ago so injection clinics can take place.! ..All in Gods house?? Pure Sacrilege, pray for Ireland. Thankyou Fr Brendan for your insights, one of the few spiritual fathers that really cares about the souls of his flock. Oh how our beautiful priests are shirking their responsibility to father the flock.

We are finding here in the USA priests who came up through the St. John Paul II era are more conservative, and therefore our mass is as it used to be, more traditional. We have a wonderful parish priest, who we are very blessed to have, who has brought the Dominican Sisters back to our schools to teach as well as starting a high school called, Aquinas Academy. As we know it is so very important to have a good and strong formation of the faith and it begins within our schools and our homes. We need good solid roots to stay a Christian in todays world especially a Catholic. Our church is full at our 4 masses on Sunday. We are blessed, praise be to God, but we need to pray for our priests, to St. John Vianney everyday for our priests and the priesthood to be faithful to the church (which isn't easy in today's times) who are trying to shepherd the fold which can be such a daunting task in today's "what about me" world. We are praying for you Ireland. God bless you. ❤

Dolan isnt a fine man, much less a competent priest. Too harsh? No. He has a duty of care to the proper stewardship of all churches in that diocese. That cathedral was defiled by the behaviour at that funeral. As regards baptism, Baptism is an exorcism, of original sin. Yes, you are correct about the lack of reverence in general. If i decide to enter a building i do try to adhere to the conventions and rubrics of practice in that building. This should be the same for people entering our churches. Genuflection. Staying silent. Being still. Saying prayers or mediating. Its Gods house, His home. He requires respect, reverence, glory and thanksgiving by those who visit His house.

Thank you Fr Brendan, my deepest appreciation, for I did watch this service, and I was reduced to tears. However for the poor soul who, took to dancing and flouncing all around the church, as the Ave Maria was sung, I did marvel, as they moved towards the sanctuary, then for me a wee miracle, they did not set a foot on the sanctuary, and I thanked God for that mercy for all of us, all those in attendance, and anyone who watches any footage. It was a young American priest talking through what happened and he was somewhat distressed with justified anger. God love him. You are right Father, sadly and I am sorry to say, it seems to me what starts in America, the rest of the world follows. For me Fr Brendan, in a nutshell, God first Always, people pleasing to the point of dishonouring of God, we need to stop engaging in that. It may reduce numbers but it will be people who put God First, and God Always. There are many other ways for people to say their farewells to their beloved in these days and times. I just cannot see a Rabbi of Synagogue allowing such a service, nor any other branch of faith allowing one either. Our Desire to include and love all, every person, well sometimes it can backfire, and in this instance well it backfired spectacularly😔🥴 God only allows bad things things to happen for Good to come out of it. St Patrick's was blindsided that day, they did their best, and as you say, a very clear sign that now discussions have to be made which God Willing will protect and honour Our Father's Universal Church, and uphold and keep God's Laws. It is also so hard for priests for they want to give every person who requests any sacrament, I believe refusing anyone will be difficult for them, but all for the Glory of God, and the protection of his most Holy Universal Church. There was a famous Mexican Trans KZfaq and TikTok sensation. He died Friday and his funeral was exemplary and beautiful! He knew his place in this life , was a great believer in our Lady and st Jude! and his mass was attended by respectful Catholics! This is one example of when the church does it right and respect for the deceased! All were well respectful of the church!

I really enjoyed this video. It was informative but also entertaining. I guess my take on it is, it's okay for a transgender person to have a funeral in a Catholic church so long as it is respectful, and complies with the wishes of the deceased person. If this person was an atheist, would they have even wanted a Catholic funeral? Or are this person's friends just poking fun at the Church? That is what we regard as disrespectful, not having a funeral for a person who is transgender. Thank you for for leading us in praying for this person, Father. But many have shown their true colors, with their silence and indifference they have shown many times there interest about the world pleasures than salvation of souls,,, we all sinners, we all struggle, but we faithful with the grace of God we stay, and we fight and take our faith more serious

I really like listening to this priest. It’s very anchoring back to my faith.totally agree, with the sacredness of the church. My future daughter in law wanted Pavarotti at church ( she’s a late joiner.) My son said No it’s the church rules, it’s hymns or nothing. Couldn’t believe how my son is returning to faith. Late converts are missing so much understanding. Baptisms are the bug in my bear, they are to the point of vulgar. Baptisms need to be limited to grandparents, god parents and parents and that’s it. You’re not ranting you are right in my view. Lovely to pray with you father.

One thing that would really help, I think, is for the clergy to do a walkthrough or dress rehearsal for important events like funerals, weddings, and baptisms. That way there would be a mutual understanding of what to expect and it would be easier to correct because it could be referenced if something goes wrong. I think that could do a lot to prevent total catastrophes. Sometimes, even more traditionally minded places don't tell people what to expect and then get upset when the guests don't know what to do.

Father concerning exorcisms during the baptismal rite, you may well be aware that in the tridentine form several prayers of exorcism are integrated. There are, by my count, five exorcisms. All this prompts the question, in all of the history of the church has there ever been a pious mother or father who complained that too many exorcisms were in play?
