This happened to my partner, and it was absolutely terrifying!!! I thought he was having a stroke. He was stuck in a loop repeating himself and appeared to have no clue where he was or what he was doing. He was given flowers by our neighbour, he put them in a vase and then said "Those are nice flowers, where did you get those from?" It was a day i'll never forget and one he'll never remember.

The reason why people say you probably will only have one is because when you have subsequent ones you know what they are and don’t bother reporting to the doctor. They don’t necessarily go on for hours, I have one that was a few hours then one that was only about 45 mins.

I had it around 2 weeks ago. It has taken me this amount of time to get over it to 'almost' 100%. I did NOT remember most of ONE DAY . . . from early morning to evening (to around after 5 pm). The morning I woke up, from the following day I left the hospital, I had a bit of trouble making my "simple to cook" breakfast (hot Cream of Wheat cereal--not the instant): My problem was organizing the things I should do, in my head, to make the cereal. I tried Not to speak to anyone on the phone--relaxation is good and helps. The following morning, at home, I was much better . Every day you feel much better--especially without a stressful day. Feeling OK was NOT instantaneous for me . . . high blood pressure problems occurred, at times, for the simplest task or conversation on the phone. It takes time, but you get much better with each day. So rest, and do not speak to people who harass you, and you will feel fine. Ahhhh!

I had TGA back in the 1980s after working out for the first time at a health club and taking a cold shower afterwards. It came on during the drive home and I had to call a friend of mine from a pay phone at a 7-11 and explain what was happening to me. Later on, the neurologist told me the condition may have been brought on by too much strenuous exercise followed by the shock of a cold shower.

I’ve had four major episodes in about six years - all of them witnessed. I saw a neurologist after the first time but nothing untoward was found. But several times I’ve also experienced the feeling of my mind slipping away and losing my grip on reality. These last for a few minutes and have also been witnessed, with me repeatedly saying things like “Something weird is happening” but then seemingly coming out it before it becomes full-blown. I distinctly remember thinking I cannot let this happen, stay grounded and repeating the day, time, where I am etc to myself until it passes.

Thank you for this video. I had an episode of TGA three days ago that resulted in my wife taking me to ER and getting admitted overnight. Happened while lifting weights (nothing crazy heavy...weights that I've been handling for over 10 years) at the gym. Folks there say I did not seem out of the ordinary. Walked out of building and couldn't find my car (because I had walked to gym) so I called my wife and told her I was really confused. My BP was through the roof...like 210/180. She feared a stroke and rushed me to hospital. All tests were normal. 12 hours later I started to feel normal and was released after 24 hours. Glad to hear it's rare. However comments here indicate maybe not as rare as medicine thinks.

Multiple episodes are more common than reported. FB group has many people with multiple episodes. It’s not as rare as some

I had Transient Global Amnesia for 24 hours June, 2018. At one point, I could not remember my name. I was 56. It began in the evening. In the morning, I knew I had a job but did not know where I worked and was worried I would get in troble for not showing up (turned out I actually work from home!). I saw my cat but could not remember her name. When it started, I had just came through the McDonald's drive-thru (product placement) and could not remember where I livd.ed. I found my way back, but could not remember where I parled in the apartment comples. I figured that out, got into th apartment, got undressed, and could not remember my name! I remember most of the event. A neurologist diagnosed me with TGA.

On July 4th this year (2022) I had no knowledge of this condition, however, by around noon of July 5th, I was being told by a neurologist at the hospital that I most likely had a case of TGA. I remember the fireworks show we attended at the local golf course and leaving, going to bed and vaguely waking up to my iPhone alarm at 0500 on July 5th, 2022. I usually go out and walk 5-7 miles with a retired friend of mine from work. Apparently, my wife had given him a heads up about my strange behavior that morning and told him to not let me out of his sight. She said I kept telling her that I was saying that I was really confused. I have zero memory of dressing in my workout gear (glad I didn't go outside naked!), zero memory of meeting up with my friend and walking 1.5 miles before he brought me home, zero memory of my daughter driving us to the hospital, zero memory of getting to the hospital, being checked in, getting a bed in the ER, taking a blood test and urine test etc. My first recollection is the neurologist talking to us about classic TGA around 1:00 pm. Had no idea I had arrived at 7:00 am!! I do remember the EEG, CT scan and MRI later that evening, everything coming back normal. Had to spend the night with about 3 hours sleep due to them forgetting that I needed a CPAP to sleep (maybe the staff had TGA). My wife said I repeatedly asked the same questions over and over, i.e. Did Dave bring me home? What did Dave say? we have ring doorbell video of Dave bringing me home and myself saying that I didn't think I had a stroke because my speech was fine, and I could move all my body parts. I went home the next day after overnight observation. Initially I could not remember July 4th, but the memory slowly returned. I'm glad this condition isn't really serious, and it is basically one and done. I did have Covid in December 2020 and had a splitting headache that would not go away for days. I mention this because of the possible correlation with migraines, which I DO NOT suffer from. Just a side note, my wife did video me in the ER asking the same questions over and over (How did I get here?).

I have had this happen to me four times in the last nine years.

Something similar to this happened to me yesterday, but rather than "global", it was much more "specific." In the late afternoon, I suddenly found myself unable to remember names. I could remember my immediate family's names, except for my 2-year-old grandson. I couldn't remember the names of the people in my exercise class that evening (who I've known for years), and when I got home and told my wife, we realized that I couldn't remember the names of any of my neighbors (who we know quite well). I couldn't remember most of our friend's names, either. In reference to the similarity to TGA, I also couldn't remember any of the conversations I had that evening in exercise class, although I could remember that I had conversations. So, my short term memory was also affected, but not to the extent described in the video. I could drive, operate complex electronics (like the sound system and light board at the exercise class), do the complex exercise routines by memory, etc. I even remembered to take my water bottle to class, which I often forget. I just couldn't remember any names. And, my short term memory during the episode was very spotty. I could remember the major events of the evening, but I couldn't remember any specific conversations. My wife and I monitored my health during the evening. I felt absolutely fine, except being a little anxious about my memory loss. By bedtime, I could name about half of my neighbors. When I woke up in the morning, I could easily name all of my neighbors and friends, and it has now been almost 24 hours and my memory is completely back to normal. Without a doubt, this has been the strangest health experience I've ever had. It was extremely frightening, but I feel confident that it is somehow related to TGA or something similar, as I have absolutely NO other symptom besides suddenly not being able to remember the names of most of the people in my life and having a very vague memory of about 4-5 hours of the day.

I had this amnesia right after an orgasm. I was told that I kept on asking what day it was. He would tell me and then a few seconds later I would ask again. I had a walkway put in that day outside my house, and I didn’t even know what my boyfriend was talking about when he asked me about it. He was mentioning peoples names that I knew , but at that time I had no clue who they were. Funny thing though, I did know that he was my boyfriend and I knew his name also. This scared the heck out of me but it only lasted about an hour or so if I remember. After that, I was afraid to have another orgasm! It kind of freaked me out a little.

I had 2 serious episodes of TGA already. I believe I have had memory problems for a very long time, zero memory of having been places, done things, taken photos of events. So, I have to learn as much as possible about what is going on. Now I want to remain quiet and keep as organized as possible. I have to check and recheck driving directions of places I have been going to for over 15 years. It's really an issue of people telling me I have told them something already. Thank you for your excellent presentation on what TGA is.

Just had my 3rd episode with TGA. (2016,2019,2022) The last episode I was recorded asking my doctor if I was have another episode of TGA before he gave me his findings, of course I have no memories of this conversation. I now have had the usual MRI,MRA,EEG,CT 3 times each. Twice while still experiencing the problem and the last one after I started keeping memories. All test came back good. Complete blood work ups showed all categories in normal ranges. The up side is if I ever suffer a non TGA related event I’ll have multiple test results to compare to. Missing 3 days from 70 years is not bad. The down side is my healthcare providers hate paying for tests proving I don’t have something to prove I had another TGA event.

Had this in 2006.I went to the V.A. hospital and had a cat scan and cognitive test.All fine. I just kept asking if I had to be at work.Where did I work? What day it was.And after 24 or 36 hours it went away.None of the doctors could explain it.I had to search the internet.

I had TGA in 2016 at age 45. Was sitting at my desk at work doing a spreadsheet and couldn't recall what i had typed, kept reading it then couldn't remember what I was working on. Brain felt very foggy. Kept repeating myself to people (asking same question over and over). Ended up in hospital with scans and diagnosed with TGA. Slept night in hospital and woke up in morning and felt relatively normal just a bit foggy for a few days. I can still remember many parts of the day that I had it, the most distressing thing was worrying what was wrong with me so quite anxious. Never had it back again.

I had a Stroke and Amnesia. It happened again 7 months later. It was very traumatizing! It lasted about two and a half days the first time. The second time it lasted a day with memory problems afterwards. I still have memory problems and sometimes i get a feeling in my head like when you are in the elevator and it drops. The doctor said that stress was my main trigger. It is very scary to think that just getting stressed out could cause me to get Amnesia again. My family stayed with me in the hospital when it happened. It was very hard on them to watch me ask the same questions over and over. I was stuck back in the year where i thought i was still married and my mom was till alive. So when i would ask where my mom was they would tell me she passed away years ago. Each time i would be devastated and cry like it had just happened. This went on and on for a few days. When i finally came back i looked at everyone and asked why are you guys all crying? They looked exhausted but thank God they helped me through it. My worst fear is that it is going to happen again.

Thanks for the video (there's not much out there on this sort of thing). I had an episode like that recently, but it didn't last all that long. I went to my GP about it and they've ordered all sorts of tests, but nothing has turned up so far. I'm having an EEG next week and will be seeing a neurologist later in the month. I'll do a follow-up post after that (if I remember to).

This happened to me when the vet told me my dog's cancer had spread. Definitely caused by stress for me. Lasted around 6 hours and have been fine since. It happened in 2018.

My sister has had 4 TGA's over the last 10 years. Several members of our family have had serious anxiety disorders going back into the latter part of the 19th century, primarily OCD and "Dementia Praecox" diagnoses. Several members hospitalized in mental institutions. My sister has a pronounced panic disorder that I think initiated her TGA's. I also have panic disorder without TGA"s (as far as I know). Our anxiety disorders go back to childhood with us both, sometimes a terrifying condition to live with.

Yesterday my father had a TGA. He woke up in the early morning wondering around the house, looking at the windows that were fitted few weeks ago... kept saying oh when did we fit those windows? did we pay for those? ... we were very scared... he looked "normal" but without fresh memories, and even the "old" were very confused, around the fog... He was quiet calm though. We though it was a odd case of stroke, as he was very recently admitted to hospital due to AF and he had a PPM fitted, just before Easter. We brought him to A&E..during his very short stay in hospital he was keeping asking why are we here? and I answered... and again after a single minute..why are we here? what am I supposed to do here? and again again again... he did bloods test and neurological consultation, had a CT scan to avoid stroke, everything normal... at the end of this odd journey we were told he was suffering from TGA and that he would have quickly and magically recovered. In fact when we were going home all the memories, short and old, were back to normal.. father 1 was taking over father 2.. he could not remember anything about this strange dream.. nothing, not a single moment. I am glad to see exactly what the medicine says and I strongly confirm every single shade of your video. I can't tell what caused this, maybe the mental stress due to his recent in patient stay as it was unespected for him. Anyway, thanks for your video!

Had this twice now, 11 years apart. Doctors each time diagnosed it as a type of migraine.

I had an episode 2 weeks ago . I had been doing yard work that day . I came to in ICU , not remembering the ambulance ride to the hospital . I didn't know what year it was or who was president ( told them it was 09 and Obama was pres . The paramedics told my wife I kept repeating same question over an over at least 50 times . I was told I knew all my family names that were there . I even signed my name at hospital. They did CT scan and a chest x ray I do not remember . I was 2 nights in hospital . I had MRIs and carotid artery scan . Everything came back good . The Neurologist that came by for all of one minute said I had a blackout from drinking , though I had nothing to drink that day . I guess the DRs that treated me knew nothing of TGA . I found TGA on my own ..

This just happened to me after an intense workout. Had to go to the emergency room bc I was so confused. My husband was so scared. I just kept repeating myself, “what is going on” just like the doctor said. They admitted me, and put me through a ton of testing, CT scan with and without contrast, mri, blood tests like crazy. The neurologist finally diagnosed me with TGA. It was a big relief. It took me a couple days until I felt normal again. My biggest fear is a reoccurrence. I guess if it happens again, at least my family will recognize that that is what’s going on. It was just super weird. I guess it can be a interesting story to tell at a party, sort of….

I had it happen a few times ....I would wake up and briefly did not know where I was or even who I was ....I just could not think of anything ...nothing made sense ....then it just started coming back.

Imagine a doctor having TGA in the middle of a surgical operation.

I had 1 episode 14 years ago they thought it was a TIA back then. and a second episode 2 days ago. Itsso incredible disorienting the whole thing felt like a disturbing dream. And even though I know I'm okay now I'm still having difficulty trusting my memories.

I just had my third one over the last 8 years. I’m almost 67. First Keppra - misdiagnosed as seizures, and now I’m afraid to go off my new meds, even though I feel completely normal, except for when the episodes occur. The neurologist/psychiatrist determined within 15 minutes that I was bipolar, had temporal epilepsy, partial complex seizures and psychomotor seizures. The awesome Dr at the ER two days ago stated that I show no signs of an ‘seizure’ person. Sooo.. the guessing continues. Again… anybody on any meds for TGA? I’m afraid I’m doing my brain/body more harm than good by taking the meds, but I’m also afraid to go off of them.

I had one recently, first time. But it is little different than you describe. The onset was abrupt. Only lasted for 20 minute or so. In between 5 minutes came back. Got out faster than you told. Definitely, can't remember any thing of the episode. It happened around 2 pm, after taking lunch at home and returned to job. Emergency hospital did all the test. CT, EKG, Toxicity, pinching nerve, blood, urine, oxygen. Everything was negative. So doctor's diagnosis was TGA.

When he said that you will never recover or get that gap back I wanted to cry. A month ago I missed 24 hrs of flying to New Zealand with my family, with 2 layovers. And then the 1st day there is spotty. I'm still not sure about my dx of TGA because I was not normal during the episode. I had double vision and was pushed in a wheelchair through the airports.

I had a pretty scary moment triggered by probiotics, once I realized it was either the blood pressure medication or the probiotics, it went away, but I don't feel the same. There was this physical mental block that I could feel and my brain was severely limited.

I drove past work by 5 miles... Then at a red light.. I came to and I questioned if I still worked there Or I had a new job and was just lost by a wrong turn. Scary stuff. I swear I remember a dream in the between time too which really was being in 2 places at same time.... 1st time ever and I am freaked out.

I've had multiple episodes one the last 18 months and the longest has been about 2 hours, some are as short as 30 minutes. The neurologist prescribed Keppra but her diagnosis was Recurrent Transient Global Amnesia, not TEA. My tests, MRI, CT, and EEG have all been normal. Should I be concerned about the difference between TEA and TGA?

I read about this condition earlier and had to learn more. I just wanted to say, as someone with pretty severe epilepsy, thank you for all your hard work as a neurologist. It's truly, truly appreciated; we couldn't do this without you and doctors like you.

Hey. So yes I'm watching this because my girlfriend just experienced this and it is incredibly alarming. She was seen by physicians and they deemed her symptoms to be TGA. So she can't remember much of the past four days, but she can remember a very interesting tidbit from six days ago. That being said, she has known that her mom and her sister moved in together for at least six months. She is currently on the way to visit them, however, she has no idea they even live in the same state, let alone together. She seemed absolutely shocked to hear this. What's you opinion?

Just happened to me on Saturday (Feb 10th), lost about 10 hours and some spotty moments from the days prior.

I went to hospital yesterday and had TGA diagnosed. Trying to recap events around it is impossible and I am slowly accepting that I have lost a day. Reading the comments I noted shallow breathing. I have a CPAP machine which I admit I don't use as it makes settling to sleep difficult. I wonder as a lay person if oxygen levels are a factor?

You say that you rarely come across this condition but then say you have only 3 weeks of experience.

What would the five minute version of this be called? I had something like this happen when I was driving at night(box truck). All of a sudden I didn't know who I was, what I was doing or even how to do it. It all came back within minutes as I tried not to do anything abrupt with the steering wheel. Nothing like it since

Mine both lasted around 7 hours. But pretty textbook from what you explained. I thought it was seratonin syndrome. I have been under extreme stress. It seems to be a common thread in many of the comments...?

This happened this morning to my wife. She asked me why we had a dumpster in our driveway. Spent the entire day 6 AM to 6 PM in emergency room before being discharged home. Weird and frightening. CAT and MRI normal without ischemia No explanation except these things sometimes happen. Yikes

2days ago, Ì went to bed at about10pm. I țried to sleep but I couldn't. At about 8am I was under the shower. I couldn't remember what happened between 10 pm and 8am. Is that "TGA"?

Is anybody on meds for this?? I was prescribed Keppra for 8 years (!) until another neurologist now put me on carbamazepine. Needless to say, I’m confused and scared, but at least my stores soon from taking Keppra is gone. Any suggestions???

My mom has had 3 episodes in the last two years and it has lasted one week to get rid of every symptom. She gets dizzy, bad headache,chest pain , weakness, repetative questioning for up to 6 hours from beginning of attacks She remembers nothing during those 6 hours. . Her legs and body are so weak she cannot walk or hardly move, and has alot of nausea,. She was in the hospital for two weeks the first time and they did every imaginable tests on her and found nothing and diagnosed her with transient global amnesia.

Yeah when this happens to me, i have a single abrupt “onset” then during maybe 30 seconds - 1 minute i have no idea where i am and why or whats going on. Then boom. It just comes back. Oh ok. I was studying for a super hard test. I also have dissociative amnesia for large chunks of time in my childhood. If i should be warned about anything, lmk lol

I think I'm having something else - I totally lost my memory to the extent where I don't recall my phone password which I've been using for years - I lost track of where I live once. I was looking at my Bro/Sister and I wasn't able to remember their names.

My mother has been experiencing TGA episodes for two years she’s probably had 5 major episodes usually lasting for 24 hours. They’re always stress related and I can tell when they are coming on because she will start to repeat herself and show a lot of confusion. Does anyone have any advice out there? She’s really struggling the episodes are getting closer together and longer than a day now. Please help!

If you had more than on TGA, you should make sure that is was a TGA, because people may have many kind of memorylost experiencies.

Mom recently lost her sister and was super stressed out then last Saturday she sounded like a broken record she kept saying the same things over and over. Since we recently lost my aunt I didn't want to chance anything so I took her to the ER. Thought it might be a stroke or something though my mom is pretty healthy but all the recently stress. So to be safe I took her there see spent 2 days there did a bunch of test including a CT scan and an MRI and they found nothing and sent her home last Sunday evening it's now Tuesday night now she's repeating even more and still forgetting what just happened. How long can this last I see it is usually a couple of hours or at most a day. But she's had it for days now, what is going on?

I swear this happened to me the two times I got high from weed. So terrifying in the moment.

Thanks for this video. This happened to me yesterday after having sex with my boyfriend. He said I kept asking the same questions over and over. He called 911. I have no recollection of any of that nor our sex session. Like another commenter said, I too just started taking a probiotic (mine was high dose) so I think more research might be warranted between probiotics and TGA/brain health.

I had this happen to me the other day and I left another comment. I wanted to add something here and ask people here another question as well. I have been a heavy pot user since I was 16 and I am now 44. I have an impeccable memory and have never had anything like this ever occur to me. I have done everything on marijuana daily my whole like, including playing hockey. I was wondering if this is something that is happening to marijuana smokers because it’s so prevalent these days and the studies on marijuana are still premature perhaps?? My mother had an episode almost exactly 10 years ago, and just had another episode yesterday. This has me a bit concerned as it's now happened more than once.

I wonder IF "some" of the patients who have had TGA had previously been prescribed excess vitamin "D" for a medical reason? Could that be the culprit/trigger (too much vitamin D per individual)? He or she may have had an adverse reaction to the vitamin D (in particular, a mental side effect), within a 3-month span of discontinuing the "D" vitamin. I do not know if there has been a study regarding the aforementioned. But if there has NOT been a study, perhaps there should be one.

Most people in the west who are charged big money for Mri's and hospital stays dont report the second time they have an incidence of it due to knowing the outcome already,many sleep it off if they feel one coming on. It is common to have three or more over decade. You can find other sufferers easily on facebook with all their honest reports. It varies dramatically with different people, there is no set time length of an event,no set depth of the effects of an event,or set amount of after effects forgetfulness or fogginess that you can generalize once you read each persons stories on it.

Explanation is good but can last from few hours to many hours. Stats of repeat episodes more frequently as is TGA’s. My neuro has many patients with it

My husband age 56 just had his 2nd in 3 1/2 yrs. Went to emergency both times. Let me know if there is any ideas you may have.1st.one happened after waking up out of a deep nap and woke up quick. And was very Dissoriented and became very stressed started becoming aware of daily event after 12 hrs and by 18hhrs fine.Tonight watched tv, showered, and had sex..shortly after he couldn't remeember, showering .

Based on what I am reading from these posts it is really not rare. Hmmmmmm
